Soif Wine Bar Restaurant
Soif offers over 40 wines by the glass from small, artisanal producers, as well as some 400 selections by the bottle from our wine shop, available to diners for $20 over retail price.
We find our delight in discovering distinctive, expressive wines, sourcing and preparing delicious, wholesome food, and then putting it all together so when guests walk in the door, night after night, there is something here for them that is authentic – that satisfies their thirst for the soulful, the delicious, and the well made.
Everything was superb, as usual!!!
I love having an unlimited wine selection. It makes for a much better experience whether dining or just to drink and enjoy. The menu is always just a bit different than elsewhere and not over-portioned. Service was excellent.
My wife and I went for their New Years Eve dinner. The food, wine pairings and service were all fabulous, we even bought 4 bottles of the wine that were part of the pairing. Wonderful evening and we will definitely be back.
Brought the family and had a great experience. The duck dish was fabulous.
We had not been to Soif in quite some time and decided to try it again this weekend. It was outstanding on all fronts. We had the Arancini appetizer and each tried a different entrée - Scallops, Gnocchi, Ravioli and Duck. All were excellent-we literally cleaned our plates. We split a Butterscotch Pot de crème which was a lovely end to a perfect meal. The service was also spot on, friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back soon!
We always enjoy this place -- beautiful fish, among lots of good options. Thanks!
Have loved this place for years and with the NEW chef it's beyond amazing! Can't wait to go back.
The restaurant was cute, with very friendly service! The arancini was delicious as an appetizer, and a beautifully colorful kale salad to start. However, my main dish, the gnocchi, came out cold and flavorless. I sent it back to get reheated and it came out perfectly warm. The space was a bit noisy for a half-full restaurant, so it was hard to have a conversation. But overall still a nice evening.
Interesting business model. They have a wine store on one side of the space and a full bar on the other side with restuarant in middle. Awesome that you can choose wines from their wine list or if prefer can purchase a bottle from the store and drink with your meal. Bummer is they charge a corkage fee to open a bottle of wine they already charged you for.. Not cool.. Food was good, though pricing overall higher then it should be.
Much Changed, Will Go Back
When Soif first opened, I had a bad experience with a server and vowed never to go back. That was close to 15 years ago. I cautiously broke my veto giving them a chance to redeem themselves. I'm happy to report that I'll be going back. The addition of the bar and restaurant area was a good idea. Service was so friendly and warm --- complete opposite of my first impression. Menu was a little limited, but the food was impeccable and tasty. Wine selection very respectable.
The wine selection was most excellent and the ambiance was lovely.
Another delicious dinner. Never disappoints
We enjoyed the wine, cheese and seafood. We found the soup sweet and would have preferred a more savory favor.
It seemed a bit pricey.
Soif was perfect for a “girls’ night out”. The food was light, creative & delicious. The server was very gracious about splitting dishes for us and knowledgeable about the food. The music was a tad too loud but they warned us about this before we sat. All in all a lovely experience
We are on vacation in California. First stop Santa Cruz and we found this the first night. Small menu which they execute brilliantly. Food and service were amazing. Great wine selection and food pairs well. The food is interesting without being overly complicated and fussy. The staff was warm and welcoming and full of great information about the local area. Hope we come back here on our next California trip.
This is a wonderful restaurant/wine bar with great staff and a fantastic wine list!
We enjoyed the Beaujolais Nouveau wine tasting. It was great to be able to have a nice meal afterwards. The bar is also excellent. We always love coming here!
Great Old Fashioned from the bar. Table service was dodgy. Entree was more like an appetizer and not very good.
Lovely evening . Nice bar buzz but tables enough away that we four could talk. All loved our meals. Great service. Would go again.
Delicious food - and always terrific service. The new chef is giving diners more choices and interesting dishes.
Delicious food. I'm never disappointed by the chefs at Soif. I only wish they were open on Sundays, I'd be able to go more often! The service was very good, and I love the jazz band that regularly plays there. It's kind of loud, but not overbearingly so. The wine selection is fabulous. I recommend! It's one of my Santa Cruz favorites.
Great food and service. Really enjoyed it! Try the Arincini
Exceptional service and best food and wine in santa cruz!
Very nice ambiance and wonderful service. My friend and I split the pork and lamb main dishes, which were both excellent. I don’t usually eat lamb or pork but I was there celebrating my friend’s bday so let him order. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed both dishes. The cocktails we ordered were also outstanding. In addition to having an extensive wine list they now offer craft cocktails.
Always love Soif! Consistently great! My only comment is that the band was a little loud and I'd like to see more diversity in the dessert menu.
Dinner alone while visiting my grandson, a student at UC-SC. First ,nice service for a solo woman diner - not always the case
And important for those of us who travel alone. Sonic is a wine bar do I took advantage of the opportunity to order a flight of local wines. Terrific choice. A particularly nice Pinot Noir. I would definitely try other flights and if I lived in Santa Cruz I would definitely buy wines here. I had braised duck leg and root vegetables. Well prepared, rich and flavorful. And for dessert panna cotta The menu is brief - only four entrees and it’s unclear how often it changes. All in all, more than satisfactory.
Great place for a weekday lunch or dinner. Food good service wonderful
It was a shame that our appetizers and entrees were cold, as if they had been prepped and left out for a while. Cold farro isn’t yummy :(.
Wine options, as always, was spectacular and our waitress provided us with excellent choices. We were allowed to linger - and the cayenne popcorn as a table dish was awesome to munch on throughout the dinner.
We went during Santa Cruz Restaurant Week. The food was excellent...flavorful, fresh, visually appealing. The interior is attractive, comfortable and hip. I’ve passed this place many times over the years and had no idea how lovely it is inside.
The staff was welcoming, helpful, and attentive without being intrusive. The noise level was moderate. We had no trouble conversing.
The portions were perfectly calibrated for a three-course meal. We were especially interested in dining at Soif because Tom McNary is now the executive chef and his creations and palate are superb.
Interesting, freshly prepared dishes, locally sourced. A good value during restaurant week, regular menu overpriced, as is wine by the glass. Too noisy for conversation--this might make us hesitate to return.
We went to Soif during Restaurant Week in Santa Cruz. We had not been for a while after a less than stellar experience, and we wanted to see what changes had been made by the new executive chef.
Restaurant Week is always busy and we had to wait a few minutes for our table, but we were seated in the wine shop and had a glass of wine. All of the service staff was helpful and attentive. The server in the wine shop was very knowledgable about the wines available, so our brief wait was pleasant and informative.
Once we were seated and had ordered, we were very impressed by the excellent, coordinated service - all the plates for each course were brought simultaneously, only cleared when all diners had completed the course, proper utensils were brought for each course - these are niceties that don't always happen in Santa Cruz restaurants.
The food was delicious and seaonal. The pumpkin soup and the quail were particular standouts, as was the sea salt butterscotch pot de creme. Having the broader selection from the wine shop is a great feature at Soif. We definitely look forward to going back soon and selecting from the regular menu. All in all, it was a great experience.
The entrée was nothing special, the wine was excellent. I would say it is a good place to have a drink but the food isn't a good value, it's nothing special and quite expensive.
We went for Santa Cruz restaurant week , we are locals but haven’t been to Soif in years , primarily because they didn’t have a full bar , glad we decided to try it again they now have a full bar with craft cocktails and our meal was delicious.
Expensive. The host greeted me with, “I don’t see your reservation; we don’t have any tables available. Sorry. At last he did see it as my daughter was already seated. He apologized, but the incident left a bad overall feeling. We did have a great table but was initially told that it was reserved by the owner. My daughter pointed out there were two tables where she wanted to sit. One was available and they gave it to us. I am trying to say that the wait people were great serving food but the staff was ungracious generally.
Great service. The food was amazing and so where the cocktails.
Excellent wine list and very good food, but way overpriced.
I had dinner here by myself after dropping my daughter off at UCSC. I had 2 appetizers, the cucumber melon salad and the cheese tart. Both were very good, and just what I was looking for to eat light. I had a nice white wine. There was a good selection of wines by the glass, including bubbly wines. The atmosphere is spare and un-fussy. All service people were prompt and polite.
Just outstanding food preparation, taste to die for and wine to pair. Compliments to the Chef.
Absolutely fabulous!!! That fruit salad..yum. scallops were a big wow! And that butterscotch cream dessert was sinfully exquisite!
Classic, consistent over many years of dining. Wine list has great values, and you can select wines from their shop that are not on the list.
