Soif never disappoints. We entered with anticipation of this being our last visit to what has been a wonderful community gem. We are so sorry the restaurant is closing, but the establishment will live on as a Wine Bar and retail for an eclectic and very special location to sample and purchase extraordinary wines. We encourage all who read this to definitely make Soif a destination.

Unfortunately, Soif is closing this month, so we had to go one last time.wine options were excellent. Parpadelle noodles and sauce were perfect along with wonderful cauliflower soup as first course. A little chilly...even with heat lamps outside.

This is a beautiful restaurant about to close. The service has always been over-attentive, the food over-priced with tiny portions. The wine list does not impress me and last night they were pouring 2 ounce classes at a minimum of $14. I will miss it for the Monday night gypsy jazz performances featuring oysters. Sad to see it close for that!

The restaurant was very cold. I had to keep my parka on. The oysters were a bit fishy which should never happen. The cod and pasta were very good but more like appetizer portions versus entree portions. The food is extremely expensive for the size of the portions. The wine was fantastic. We had 3 drinks not a bottle. Overall, we had a nice time but left hungry and $200 poorer.

New Years. Portions a bit small for some dishes but not all. Outside needs a tent and I do understand these are trying times. The steak was amazing!!! The squab was missing seasoning and some richness.

My husband's duck breast was succulent and flavorful, as was my trout. Our wines were superb. The crab salad appetizer was scrumptious and the caesar was, too. Our waitperson was knowledgeable and attentive.

Always wonderful. I love picking up a nice wine from their bottle shop and bringing it to pair with the wonderful food. I’ve been many times to Soif. Their sophisticated menu and knowledgeable servers never disappoint. Santa Cruz gem hidden in plain sight.

First time coming here, but the experience was amazing. Cole our waiter was super polite and very attentive. The food was great, from the starter to the dessert. My wife was happy with her mushroom ravioli and the duck dish was excellent. The prices are not on the low side, but very worth it.

We dined outside. Ambiance and noise, when in a converted street parking space, is not what we might have enjoyed inside. One of our party did not bring is vaccine record so we chose outside. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding (thanks Cole). The wine list had a wonderful variety and very helpful pairing suggestions. Missed having more California wines on the list. We'll be back.

One of our favorites anywhere, not just Santa Cruz. We're still more comfortable eating outside, even though we're vaccinated. They were very accommodating with heater lamps etc. Staff is kind and thoughtful. Much appreciated.

Food and and ambience were great. We are very appreciative of the vaccine requirement for indoor dining. The bar seems to have problems keeping up with orders. The food was served before my husband received his cocktail order but the server brought him a free glass of sparkling wine as an apology.

They offered water and ask if we wanted bread, so you’d assume those were complimentary, only to find $4 tacked on the bill for the bread, which were sliced 4mm thin, and about 7 pcs along with 2 tbsp of oil. They should have placed bread on the menu if they charge for it to avoid annoying surprise on your tab. Food, thankfully was good. We reserved an indoor table online but the receptionist attempted to seat us outside. When we stated that we booked an indoor seating, she made us feel that she was doing us a favor instead of admitting that it was their mistake. Staff were masked making it difficult to hear your wait staff along with an open concept warehouse type that gets quite noisy as clients get inebriated.

We went for restaurant week, had no problem choosing from the limited menu. We had the following: Carrot soup - delicious, perfect balance of richness Steak Frit and Fries - Steak was tough, really had to put the elbow greasy into cutting it. Fries looked anemic but were actually very tasty. Flowerless chocolate cake with raspberries was very decadent, could only eat half and too the rest home, delightful for breakfast. Wine pairing was prefect! Staff were really attentive even though the place was very busy.

We love Soif. One of its gifts has been the deep knowledge of its wine by staff. This was not our experience last night sadly. A relatively new person served us: tried to tell us that “Moro” aka Amaro was a wine from France, and got our order wrong multiple times from drinks to courses. Disappointing from an otherwise reliable star. Food and drinks were great as always; service was not up to their par.

We love this restaurant. Time before last we had a wonderful meal. This time, not so good. The chicken was clearly reheated and very tough. The pasta with scallops was disappointing; the scallops were overcooked bay scallops, maybe warmed up from a previous service. We expect a lot from Soif, and this was a big letdown.

We ordered the green salad (Frisee and something) and it was excellent. I had the vegetarian dish (pasta and sauce) and my husband ordered the burger. He said the burger was A+ and he could tell that the beef was of high quality. Mine was not very interesting. The sauce was tomato sauce and not especially tasty. I gave my meal a C for average. The server and hostess were A++ and we sat outside and our table was more than 6 feet away from other patrons. We would go back. Good value for the money.

I had arrived in Monterey and had business in Santa Cruz the next day. I was really in the mood for a wonderful Sunday late afternoon Lunch/Dinner. I loved the posted Sunday lunch menu for Soif and decided to make it a go. Unfortunately, when I got there I was handed a different menu and they were not showing the items I had looked forward to. BUT, I asked the server if the chef could still make the items and, like any great restaurant, the chef was more than willing to accommodate me. I was thrilled. The server was very familiar with their wines a suggested the perfect French white burgundy. The meal was incredible! A definite hit in my book!
