Soi4 Bangkok Eatery
…inspired, influenced, accented, and tinged; anything but ‘fusion’. We prefer to think of it as "Bangkok style” eatery.
We ordered three small plates and three entrees. Not one was exceptional--most just average. Chicken skewers, dry, dumplings heavy and undercooked, etc. Would not return.
this place is great. We went on our first date here 16 years ago so we relive it every year. The only thing is the service has never improved. (the people are extremely nice, all of them) Helpful hint to the establishment: the drinks are so good! We would have had more and we took a ride so we could have cocktails but only were offered once. That was disappointing and a loss for the restaurant!
My wife and I stopped in for a late (1:45 pm) Valentine's Day light lunch. Just three "starters" plus beverage. We eat quite often at Soi 4, and never have been disappointed.
I'm a longtime regular customer, so all I can say is that our experience was everything I hoped for.
In an effort to look for very good vegetarian food, this was an excellent choice.
Wonderful food and attentive service. Willing to adjust to our spice tolerance since we prefer mild heat. Really lovely.
Food is excellent and the service is great. Definitely a recommendation for Thai food.
A great place for fresh Chinese food. Everything was excellently prepared and fairly priced. I will definitely go back.
I've eaten here twice and have loved it both times.
The food was fresh tasting and delicious. We paired the palm- wrapped grilled whole Branzino with the grapefruit salad and really enjoyed it. The drink menu is interesting & well thought out as well.
Food was very good and service was excellent. Will return.
Went due to Oakland dine around. Had excellent squid salad, spices, & Pad Thai. Both were delish. I wish they still served grilled baby calamari sticks.
We were attracted by an interesting Restaurant Week menu, and the meal more than fulfilled our expectations. Everything was inventive and delicious, no doubt the best Thai food we've ever had. I believe the restaurant serves the standard dishes as well, and they are probably just as good, but we were pleased to find the interesting conception and combination of ingredients, precise execution, and lovely plating of high-level cuisine in Thai food, at a bargain price. It's hard to single out one dish--everything was so good--but we were both struck by the duck breast in a red curry sauce. I've had duck legs in red curry before, and we've had duck breast in various forms innumerable times, but this was actually the best duck breast I've ever had in any kind of preparation, including in France--perfectly tender, wonderful taste, really memorable. Service was friendly and highly efficient, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and we had a bottle of good pinot noir at a decent price to accompany the meal. In short, a real find for us, and we plan to return soon.
very poor, slow service. Took forever to get our drinks. My entre came after my husband finished his three course fixed price meal. Even though I reminded her previously to check on it as did my husband when his entre came out. I complained and they didn't charge me for my entre. Overall, inattentive staff and food was ok.
I took my 90 year old friend there for her birthday dinner. It was exceptional and really memorable. The food was amazing as always!
Came here for Restaurant week and had a $40 price fixe. I chose turnip cakes, grapefruit salad and the sea bass. My friend chose the prawns on mustard leaf and duck for his meal. Overall the food was delicious and the atmosphere was modern and open. The portions were generous- I was actually full before my sea bass arrived. The turnip cakes were lightly crisped on the outside with a soft interior. Accompanying sriracha added to the flavorful sauce. The grapefruit salad had coconut and nuts in it. My friend tossed his portion with the dressing which was a mistake as it made the salad overly sweet. I picked mine out of the dressing which was pooled on the bottom and enjoyed the flavor of the grapefruit a bit more. Sea bass was tender and moist. Overall excellent!
We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. Lovely and diverse selections on the Prix Fixe Dinner Menu for Oakland's restaurant week. Very good value for the price. The food and service were excellent!
I would recommend this restaurant with a reservation that the dishes I had were too sweet. I often have this experience at other Thai restaurants that the dishes are too sweet.
Always have delicious Thai food with great service in a nice setting. Thanks!!
It was fresh and light but could have had more flavor to it. Food was good but surprisingly bland. Nothing was spicy enough or salted enough. The service was good. My waitress put a lot of effort into helping me decide what to order from a menu on which everything looks equally worthy of a taste. The restaurant had a mismatch in the ambiance like the customers and interior decorator wanted it to be fine dining but the staff was projecting a more casual sitdown vibe. The restaurant was too cold. But overall a pleasant dining experience.
The food was amazing! The turnip cakes are to die for!!!!
I made a reservation through Open Table on 12/27/19 for lunch at Soi4. I even received an email from Open Table asking to confirm my reservation. When I arrived at the time of my reservation, the restaurant was dark and no one was inside. There was a sign posted on the window that they were closed on various dates but nothing about December 27 th the date of my reservation. There were two other parties also waiting. We all realized that the restaurant was closed. Needless to say, I was deeply disappointed that no one contacted me to inform me that my reservation was void due to the closure of the restaurant that day.
WE have been coming for many years. Soi4 is ALWAYS excellent. It has never disappointed. It is our favorite restaurant in the College Ave/Rockridge area.
This is one of my favorite restaurant in the whole world. The food and service has always been wonderful . I would recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for good food and good service
Great dinner once again! Consistent quality and service was up to part this time.
The food was wonderful. Service was a little slow.
Repeat customers here. Food quality and hospitality consistently excellent. A bit loud is all.....
Great food. Better service. Quiet restaurant. I had the spicy pork, she had the drunken beef. Both were excellent.
Good food, good service, good bar, good location. We will be back!
We really enjoyed the fresh flavors and interesting combinations on the menu. The wine offerings and prices are thoughtful as well. We can't wait to come back and try some of the dishes we didn't have roof for!
The restaurant was so noisy we had a difficult time enjoying our time together or the meal. The food was good but the whole experience was not a good one and I won’t go back for a while.
This is the third time I've eaten here. The food has been consistently delicious, and interesting. The combination of flavors is right on, i.e., the grapefruit salad with cashews and red onions. My only complaint this time is regarding service. Our waitperson brought all our dishes at the same time after I specifically asked her to bring the appetizer first. As a consequence our noodle dish was only slightly warm when we were ready to eat it. And she either forgot about our drinks or put the drink order in later, as the drinks arrived after the food. I suspect our waitress had some difficulty understanding English. Other waitresses quickly helped out. Overall, I highly recommend Soi4 as some of the best and innovative Thai food in town.
Good was great and the staff were very friendly. Nice unexpected find
Loved it! Great food, interesting drinks, quiet enough to talk, walking distance from rockridge bart.
We had a delightful dinner at Soi4 on Thursday evening. Our daughter was visiting for the evening from Sacramento and we were celebrating a work-related event.
Food was delicious and beautifully served. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
We will definitely be back soon!
Always excellent with superb service!
Simply the best Thai food. So fresh. Every dish we ordered was yummy! Only issue was that when we arrived, we must’ve waited 5+ minutes at the hostess station, because because they were really busy! But once we were seated, the service was great. Highly recommended!
Even after all these years the food and service are great!
Food is always tasty and fresh. Service is also friendly and efficient.
The waitstaff were so helpful to us. We couldn't make a reservation for 7 online, but when the first of our party arrived they gave them a table for 7. The staff was gracious and patient. Overall the food was fine, although some dishes (for instance, the cauliflower dish) lacked seasoning although the cauliflower was not overcooked. I would definitely go back.
