This restaurant has been out of menu items the last two times we have been there. It's one thing to be out of one item or so, but multiple items at 6:00 or 7:00 pm seems like really bad planning. It would have been nice to know before we ordered drinks that there were menu issues. Service was attentive but very slow. Since we had suggested Smoke to the group of friends we were with, we were pretty embarrassed. We will not be back.

ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10 , I WOULD GIVE IT A 7 ONLY BECAUSE THE BRISKIT , CHICKEN, PULL PORK WS LUKE WARM, BUT THE RIBS WERE DELICIOUS .

This restaurant was highly recommended to take out of town visitors - for both the true Texas flavor & feel.

Our experience was not great & could have been better if the waiter was more hospitable & knowledgeable of the menu. He was unable to make good recommendations and keep our glasses full. The place was not busy, but remained very loud.

The fried brussell spouts were great, but the bbq was either very dry or all fat. We will not recommend or return.

we dined here on fathers day for brunch, Wait staff was non existent when we arrived for our 11:30 reservation. we ended up being seated & waited upon by the bartender. We told him we had an opentable reservation but he did not know how to use the system. We later told the host who arrived later but have not yet been credited with our reservation! The Bartender did his best to serve us but the food was mediocre at best & he credited several of our plates. I have never left a negative review before but after reading the previous reviews it is well deserved!

They were out of brisket and chicken...what?!?!?, at a BBQ place??
Food quality..like I was at Golden Coral. Served cold.
Terrible...never going back!!

It all started when we walked in. We had a 5:15 PM RSVP, but were told it would be 20-30 minutes before we would be seated because they did not have enough servers scheduled. So we went to the bar to order drinks and wait. While we were in the bar, the bartender was knocking back shots of Jameson with another guest. We ordered a couple of pints of beer, but were told that they did not have any pint glasses clean. So, we ordered bottles instead. After 25 minutes, we were seated and handed a single page menu with about 4 options on it. It simply said special menu and listed about 7 items (3 apps, 3 entrees, 1 family feast). We ordered deviled eggs (which were out) brisket quesadilla (no brisket present) and tater tots (good enough). Food arrived in a timely manner but quesadilla only had cheese and no brisket. Server said they were out of brisket (at 6:00 PM???), no reduction of the bill was offered. We then ordered the combo plate and the poblano corn chowder and salad plate. The combo plate came with none of the items that were listed on the menu. Menu said it had pulled pork, brisket, ribs. What we got was two slices of bacon, 2 small disks of sausage, and one chicken leg, served with cream corn and mashed potatoes. Server said that they were out so this is what was now being served on the combo plate. Food was nearly inedible. We cannot recommend this place. Poorly run, badly managed, and the worst part is the food. Staff was pleasant enough...but I now understand why the bartender was knocking back shots. If I had to work under those conditions, I would be drinking too!!

I have never walked out of a restaurant after ordering food until Saturday. The picture attached is supposed to be a quarter pound of brisket. The waiter hadn't come by for more than 10 minutes after we sat down, so another waiter took our drink order. When he did bring the drinks, we ordered corn bread and a jar of pickles. There were no ribs at 6:30 on a Saturday evening, which he didn't tell us until after he'd placed our order with the kitchen. Remember the cornbread and pickles? Didn't come... Food showed up in pieces , and we had NO silverware. THEN the cornbread showed up, and it was burnt on top. The pickles never came at all. We finally got the manager, and settled up and walked away from the table, without ever having touched our food, because we never got any silverware. OH, and the décor was literally falling apart. 2 large boards fell off when our waiter leaned against the wall.

Even though our reservation was late a night, and by the time we finished our main course it was already closing time. The overall service and friendliness of the staff never fail. We were still offer deserts whereas other places would just tell you kitchen is closed and try to get you out of there fast. Will definitely be coming back for some home style delicious food when we are in San Antonio again.

I had not read the reviews that others had posted and wish I had. This BBQ restaurant needs to be closed! Before I get to the reasons why I recommend closing, I will say that the building is very nice and the upfront restaurant area appears clean. Now for the reasons why I recommend closure: We ordered a sangria. It was received in a small wine glass overloaded with ice and an unattractive orange and the wine was very bitter. I wouldn't suggest that it was a sangria at all. The waiter was nice and said he had nothing to do with the Sangria. Obviously because his signature shirt had dried food on it. His shirt was not clean and looked like he put on yesterday's T-Shirt. He took our lunch order. We waited 20 minutes for our lunch and what a surprise! Lunch on a board. No presentation or garnish. No bread. Only 1 chicken thigh, 1/4 cup pulled pork and 2 small slices of brisket. Sure looked to me like these proteins were two to three days old! No seasoning and no BBQ on them either! The French fries could have been prepared yesterday also. The cauliflower was served in a mini cast iron pan.... tasteless and soggy!! There was nothing to eat to compliment the cook! I surely hope anyone who visits San Antonio does not dine at Smoke... what an embarrassment!

So disappointed! This place used to be good, now it is just disgusting. Food has declined in quality, but prices are still high. The service is also horrible. They could care less about their customers satisfaction with the food and dining experience. Food used to be made from scratch and served fresh, now it looks and tastes store bought and is served cold. We are never going back. I highly suggest avoiding this place.

This is a BBQ restaurant and they were out of BBQ. Additionally, they had no buns for their hamburgers. Although the server ensured we knew, it would have been appreciated to know in check in.

Typically a great place. On this day, service was horrendous as they were clearly understaffed. They were out of brisket, pulled pork, and one other meat, but didn't inform us until we got ready to order. Drinks were left I filled for a very long time and when the burgers came out (1+ hour after ordering) the fries did not. They told us they were still cooking and would come out later. There was a graduation party above us...this was clearly the priority. Tables sat for a long time without being cleaned and we saw many people leave while waiting to get a table.

Great location & vibe. Restuarant is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Service was poor- waiter delivered poor service & didn't seem like he wanted to be of any assistance. The group I was with picked Smoke specifically because of their Bonyard feast- sadly our waiter told us when we ordered that they had the beef ribs than came back & said they were out- only for us to see other tables who arrived & ordered after us being brought out beef ribs-WTH?! They also didn't have any bacon- 0 for 2. Pork ribs had good bark but were dry, pulled pork & jalapeno chedder sausage was average. If you love BBQ you might come away disappointed.

Made a reservation on Opentable for 2pm Mother's Day here. This was completely ignored, unverified, and got the "Oh, let me see if we have a table..." from the hostess. Then, she forgot to seat us after 20 minutes. 2 pieces of cornbread for 4 guests, absolutely no silverware or plates and being completely ignored for half an hour. They were too concerned with a party upstairs to care about the 20 or so patrons downstairs. Food took about an hour to arrive, was okay, but nothing to write home about. Seems like we paid for the presentation mostly. The Texas, Carolina, and Korean sauces were actually the highlight for me. The restaurant has nice and interesting art. They need to install some sound absorption in the dining room - way too loud to converse and hear people across from you. And you know, I probably would have not left any negative review here, but received an Opentable email that Smoke claimed I was a no-show. That's when I got really upset. Overall, for a first impression for my mother on her day, this was embarrassing.

Mother's Day Lunch with friends was a disappointment. With a 12:45 reservation, we were seated 20 min later, and it didn't appear crowded. Menu was confusing. Waiter's help made it more confusing. Meal arrived but no utensils/napkins, which came later, only because we asked the bus lady. Food presentation was appealing but food was bland. Spoke to the manager, who offered free desserts. It appeared the management team and staff were either very new in their jobs or didn't have the experience to run such a restaurant.

Made a reservation for 11:30am, did not get a table until 12:30pm. The waiter was overwhelmed and only allowed us to order off of the brunch menu, which was a disappointment because everyone else around us was ordering other things. I would return, however not on a Sunday maybe when they are slow. The bar had AMAZING service and the Deejay was my whole reason for staying, I think his name was Techneek. After our waiter told us the Manager was too busy to speak to us I refused to pay, and then he amazingly became available. He reduced the bill and also gave Giftcards. He had great conversation and that's the reason I would consider returning. The meat was really good, as for the sides and our server, I could do without.

Worst experience....25 minutes for waiter to come to the table, 40 minutes to get a bloody Mary, raw pancakes, 1hour for deviled eggs to come out that are pre-made and had to ask 3 different people, out of 4 meals ordered only 2 ever made it out. Entire meal comped except for 2 bloody Mary's on mother's day. When we arrived with reservations they were not busy. Never going to this place again.

Food was great however our table wasn't ready when we arrived despite a reservation and it was way too noisy. The wooden floors and bare walls and glass just had the sound bouncing all around. You couldn't hear unless you were sitting next to the person. My hard if hearing parents had a rough time.

The BBQ was very good, flavorful, tender, and juicy. The creamed corn was great, tasty and not soupy. But the potato salad needed more seasoning, it was pretty bland.

They have a parking lot down the street from the restaurant, but it's not well marked at the restaurant, only a sign right outside the lot, which is tucked away behind the building. A sign pointing the way from the restaurant would help.

One person in our party wrote a review on trip advisor. Our food was brought to our table warm not hot. The meat had very little flavor. The turkey was dry. The best part of the meal was the cornbread. The manager came over to ask us about the meal. We told him we were not satisfied. He then began making excuses of all the staff has to do to prepare the meals. As one of the females in our party was explaining her issue, the manager raised his voice to talk over her which irritated all of us. He needs serious customer service training and service recovery training. We will not be back to this establishment.

I was deeply disappointed with the quality of the food you could get better Barbecue on the southside of San Antonio I was also disappointed in the quality of the service of my waiter he seemed to be very busy but the funny part was there was only a few tables that were taken it was a Sunday morning overall not a very good experience and the food was not that good

I am not sure what this restaurant is trying to be. It is not nice enough with service, atmosphere, or quality to be fine dining but it is far to expensive to be a "regular" bbq joint

Horrible place with bad service and cold hard food. The server ranted to us about how he did not want to be at work and joked with us about not wanting to take our table. The wait was over and hour and the food came out cold and hard. I would never return to this venue.

The menu on line didn't match the restaurant menu. Notable items were missing such as Hogs Head Tacos and Grilled oysters. Brisket Tater Tot Poutine morphed into Animal tots. They were out of Pinot Grigio and had only Riesling. In spite of the fact that my husband asked for a glass of water and a glass of ice water, the waiter brought only one glass and assured him he would keep it full. He did not.
The food we ordered was very good- Grillmaster's Choice and Sexy BBQ Meatloaf. The lack of wine, the interesting menu online that was far simplified in person and the poor service would keep me from recommending this restaurant.

Not crowded at all and still got horrible service. There were no paper towel in the restroom, and 2 hours after I told someone about it, they still hadn't refilled them. They let our table order and then came back 10 minutes later to tell us there were "no green vegetables".
The server talked up the chocolate pecan pie and got everyone to order just to come back 10 minutes later and tell us there wasn't any. This was the most embarrassing experience because this was a business dinner.

The service was slow as far as the food coming to our table
The waiter was pleasant and apologized for the wait

It was our anniversary and I wanted the occasion to be pleasant
