Very slow service. Bartender in training was falling way behind. Brisket was dry but pork sliders, animal tots were good
Modern BBQ with great tastes. The beef short rib is not an entre', it is an EVENT.
We got there at 4 on Sunday, (hrs are 11am to 9 pm) We were greeted by a waitress with a list of 5 meats they were out of, plus things like corn bread as well. What? and u have 5 more hours of service?
Long wait for food, was good, but was not what I wanted to eat...the turkey & cornbread was gone.
Brunch was splendid! The chopped brisket, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce were fantastic!
This restaurant is amazing for for any occasion. I would recommend this spot every time for BBQ.
Very good food; the service could have been slightly better as our server seemed overwhelmed. Unique dishes! We will return!
Upon arrival was surprised to see how empty it was, but could have the time of day on a Saturday, we were there at 4pm. Our server, Jesse, was great, first time there, and he was very informative regarding the food and menu. Would recommend the Animal Tots for a starter, but needed to be a little bit bigger of a portion, brought my wife and 2 daughters, and we each had one bite, and they were gone. Brisket sandwich, flavorless and served on Texas toast, disappointing. Duck over cooked with no flavor. Dino bone, very tender and enjoyed very much. And the pick 3 of pulled pork, chicken, and brisket was good, but once, again very small portions. Hesitant to go back, considering hit or miss.
The food was very good. Service could have been better but it was not bad at all. Ambience was nice until that one typical loud table arrived. Overall, very good place.
Really awesome selection of great BBQ- everything from basic brisket to exciting sandwiches. The roasted sweet potatoes are awesome and so is the variety of sauces!
Talk about taking a turn for the worst! This place has truly gone downhill since the Brian West left. I used to rave of this place and it's food, NEVER AGAIN.
By far the worst experience. The service was horrible to the point that we had no choice but to leave before we received our food.
Smoke has taken an abrupt turn for the worse since its head chef left.
The food takes like it's store bought. Mainstays in the menu now resemble cafeteria food.
This will be the last time we go to Smoke.
Really sad since we spent the last two years frequenting this establishment.
Smoke the Restaurant never disappoints! Excellent food and great service. We always go with at least 6 people and get one of their feasts - tons of meats, unlimited sides, and those delicious pickles! This time we went to the Sonterra location, but the Sunset Station location is also great if you're in that area.
Brisket was fatty and stringy. They messed up my friend's order multiple times. I ordered the pit sampler, as did three others in the group. They had brisket, smoked chicken breast, and pulled pork. I had the same items, except I received a chicken drumstick that was the size of my little finger instead of the chicken breast. Great ambience and a decent beer selection. I'm hoping this was just an off night and not indicative of how the place normally operates.
The 420 Burger and Urban Cowboy BBG burger are fantastic!
My husband and I love this place. Great food, great service and inexpensive. Reasonable happy hour prices also.
Enjoyed it! Went for my wife's birthday. Both had a great time and it didn't break the bank! We both had an entree & 2 alcoholic drinks each for a total tab of $50. Definitely a hidden gem!
Server was friendly and the food was amazing. We will continue to come back to Smoke!
Food was unique and flavorful. Service was terrible, however. We ordered an appetizer that came out with full meal. It was 7 pm on a Tuesday, and the kitchen was already out of several desserts---Hmmm.???? We ordered coffee with dessert and no french press coffee(their norm) was not available. We ordered coffee with cream and splenda with our dessert, however, coffee arrived 15 min after dessert was served and then we had to ask for cream etc again. Dessert was poor.
What's there not to like about Smoke? Delicious taste, very reasonable prices, amazing cocktails, friendly servers, comfortable yet classy ambient. What more could one ask for? Go there for a date, or take the whole family. This place is perfect for any occasion. I can't wait to try their lunch menu.
Service was lacking. I had a reservation and they took about 20 minutes to seat us. Then it took an age for anyone to help. The waitress was not very knowledgeable and we had to remind her about refills and about our dessert. I guess they were very busy and didn't know how to handle a busy restaurant. Not an excuse. Will not be going back.
Reservations always run behind at this restaurant. Don't expect to be seated close to your reserved time.
The chef's choice was what we had for dinner. Three meats of the plate were pulled pork, brisket and chicken which the chicken and pork were "good" but the brisket was only "fair". Two small pieces of brisket that were tough and not much flavor. The buttered mash potatoes and the carrots were very good as sides.
When Chef West was still a part of Smoke the restaurant was amazing. After he left it has really gone down hill. The food has seriously taken a hit. It used to be one of my favorite brunch places but now I don't see myself returning.
The food was delicious and interesting. It is upscale Tx BBQ! The burnt ends, oysters, cornbread, and tacos were great! They have a great selection of sauce. It got very busy, but service was good! A definite big yes!
Took over an hour for lunch. Service very lacking. Had to ask for silverware then get it ourselves. 4 people took 2 separate trips for food almost 10 minutes apart. Fries cold. Bacon so hard you couldn't care it.
Food was inconsistent around the table. Brisket was lean on one plate and fatty on another. Kitchen was out of popular items(chicken and ribs). The smoke in the room, literally, burned my eyes for most of our meal. Others at the table mentioned it too. The soup was great, the salad was very skimpy for the price. Fried chicken livers were tasty.
Restaurant Week menu was interesting and filling - very cool experience. We brought a friend visiting from out of town on a weeknight, restaurant wasn't crowded or loud.
This place is into BBQ with upscale, creative sides and starters. It has a lively vibe and service. If you just want traditional Texas 'cue, there are better places. Check the Texas Monthly listing.
Can only offer a 3 star rating for Smoke. The food was excellent, but unless ordering by bbq the pound, the individual plates on the menu are at best child size portions. Our waitress even commented management was looking at increasing the portion size.
Would still have to say, the food itself was outstanding
Love the restaurant. Would have rated 5's for food but too many items on the menu were not available which I thought was weird for a Wednesday night. Service missed a 5 because we made a point saying no gravy on the chicken but it came with gravy. Situation was rectified and chicken was good but the waiter apparently didn'the take notice of the "no gravy" request. My meatloaf was wonderful.
Nice atmosphere, had the Pit Special and the meat came out barley warm. My wife's soup was fantastic! Drinks were good. Server was good but looked like he had way to many tables.
Food was not best but loved the ambiance.
Outstanding flavors and sauces. Terrific menu. But execution was lacking.
A very nice upscale barbecue place. I am not a fan of the charge to change out a side. Very good and unique food. I might or might not return. I haven't decided.
Couldn't be better.
Smoke is such a unique BBQ restaurant - an upscale, but casual (yes it's possible) atmosphere with outstanding food and great service. I wish I had the willpower to order something else other than brisket, because the menu is awesome (but, the brisket is so tender and amazing) and has so many creative dishes! Must try the potato salad if you go - truly unique and delicious. One of my favorite restaurants in SA no doubt.
Our experience at Smoke was very enjoyable. The menu is really a step up from the standard BBQ and every dish was very well prepared and delicious. I chose it because I wanted fried chicken, a dish I haven't permitted myself for years. It was very crispy and the meat cooked just right. The mashed potatoes were exceptional with butter, chives and the flavor from the crusty chicken. The lamb was just right and very good. We'll be back for Brunch.
We had family from out of town, and they wanted BBQ and had seen our FB posts. They were impressed. April was terrific as waitress and we ended up ordering too much food. Great!
Great place to eat. I recommend bringing a jacket though.
