We brought our friends who were visiting from Tokyo to Slanted Door. The food was delicious, and the view of the Bay Bridge added to the experience. From what we had, I especially loved Kumamoto oysters, snap peas, gingered beef noodles, and Vietnamese crepe.

We had the crispy imperial rolls, heirloom melon salad, stir fried chicken, and cellophane noodles. Everything was delicious and service was fantastic. Great Pre-birthday dinner for my mom.

The food at The Slanted Door was excellent. I particularly recommend the Green Papaya Salad, the Shaking Beef, and the Cellophane Noodles. Unfortunately, the service we received was downright hostile. The waitress was incredibly nasty toward our children and deeply hurt my daughter's feelings (and mine). We will not be returning and I don't recommend visiting this restaurant with children. Such a disappointment.

After trying for several months we finally got a Sunday 2:15 lunch reservation. We were seated immediately and drink orders arrived pronto. Window seats give one person the bay view, but the other person views the bar. Crispy spring rolls in lettuce leaves, cellophane noodles with crab and a perfectly cooked flat iron steak with veggies were all delicious. Cheesecake was excellent, not too sweet and very creamy.

We enjoyed 3 great appetizers--very clean fresh dishes with excellent spices for taste--especially enjoyed the the mango salad. The chicken with cashews dish was also a great one to try. We ordered the cotton candy for dessert--great for a show and cool to see but really was too sweet. The beignet dessert was fantastic!

The food at Slanted Door is innovative and interesting. Having been there many times however, I was disappointed that it was less than stellar this time. We had to ask for water multiple times and our waiter would occasionally disappear. The food items were good, however the gulf shrimp meat tasted a bit fishy.

Additionally, at our 7:30pm seating the restaurant seemed to lack a bit of its usual polish; the menus they gave us were wrinkled/stained, the restaurant seemed a little messier than usual, kids were in there playing on their gameboys (not something the restaurant can control, but definitely contributed to a different vibe.)

we ate before we were to head to the theater. our waitress offered suggestions that were spot on. appetizers and main dishes were all delicious and different. you won't be disappointed!!

A friend suggested we try Slanted Door a few years ago. Being from Canada, I was eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get to San Fran and try out this famed eatery. So, four years later on a one day trip o the Bay area, I made a reso for two (a month in advance and could only get a 9:30 reso on a Wednesday!!!)...

We experienced:
- a stunning view by the waterfront
- great ambience and subtle, but fitting interior decor
- a waiter who was helpful, attentive but not intrusive. He guided our meal selection with honesty and promptly sent the sommelier to our table to discuss wine options based on what we had selected from the menu.
-the sommelier was unassuming, friendly and approachable. He provided a few options based on our preferences and budget.
- the food was sensational; the scallops were like WHOAH good, but everything was drool-worthy.
-the bill was a little more than we usually would have paid, but it was worth every penny.
- dessert was equally delicious and, even though we left with full tummies, we wanted more!
Will DEFINITELY be back.

After much hype, The Slanted Door was a disappointment. The food is poor, like a fairly normal Chinese restaurant. Tamarind in Palo Alto which is a similar Vietnamese fusion restaurant is much better. Very lively place, with crowds of people waiting to get in... and this was on a Tuesday. So they must be doing something the young professional crowd like.

This is the second time I have been there recently and the wait staff has been incredibly rude- once for dinner and once for lunch. The food is good however perhaps they just got too big for their britches. And with scenery and location maybe they just feel they don't have to be polite???
Unacceptable and I won't be running back. Enough other great restaurants nearby that treat their patrons politely. Sad as I have been going to Slanted Door since their original location many years ago.

Awesome food, great location.
The pier trumps the wharf, in my opinion, and this is a must if your down in that area. Hit the shops and wine bar up then enjoy some slanted door! A great afternoon in San Francisco!

We arrived at 7:30 for our 9:00 reservations. They were able to seat us, in the side section w no water view. Waitress recommended a great German Pinot. We told her we were ordering everything family style and she was great at suggestions of when to bring food out so the progression would be nice. We ordered:
Slanted door rolls- fresh and nice peanut sauce
Frog legs - delicate and tender
pork belly- sweet and well prepared
Papaya salad- well seasoned and balanced
Soup shrimp crab coconut milk- delicate and nice
Shaking beef- beef was tough, nothing special, since she said this was a signature dish
Chicken clay pot- well flavored and delicious
Cellophane noodles-ok
Confection plate- cotton candy and nice caramel
Bitter sweet chocolate tart- good
Overall the food was fresh and understated. I needed more spice half way through and she accommodated w bringing a nice chili paste. We were still hungry, so we ordered some rice.
We would good back, but I would tell them immediately that we like bolder favors and don't be afraid of spice. I think they are trying to accommodate the palate of my tourists, since it is such a popular restaurant. The view of the bridge is spectacular.

I always try to make it here when I'm in town. It's a noisy, high energy restaurant with views of the bay. Service is always great though. The food is amazing, love the crispy imperial rolls, cellophane crab noodles, shaking beef, and eggplant!!!

I had high expectations for this restaurant and was disappointed. The restaurant itself is modern with solid windows for walls, showing off the view of the Bay. We had reservations at 7:30pm. When we arrived at 7:20, we were told that the table would be ready in a few minutes, which is appropriate since we were early. However, it was 8pm before we were able to sit down at our table. The hostess was not friendly or helpful when we would inquire about the table availability during the wait. The service once at the table was adequate, but nothing special or what I expect for a restaurant like this. I was most disappointed with the food. We had a group of 5 people. We ordered 3 appetizers and 5 entrees to share. The majority of the food was boring. Nothing unique or different or special about any of it. For the price point of this restaurant, I expected much better. This is not somewhere I would return or recommend to a friend.
