Very busy afternoon on Mother’s Day. Service and food quality was excellent, especially since there were so many people. Very happy to have celebrated there.

My daughter is a vegetarian of 9 years and could find very little to eat on the menu. She had an omelette but it had nothing in it and had no flavor. She was very disappointed and didn’t eat more than 1/4. My husband, son and I were fine with our meals.

Skates was packed full for Mother's Day and server was fantastic/nice. The food was delicious as usual and was served fast and much quicker than expected as the restaurant was full.

We have been to Skates many times over the years, and in general enjoy our experience. On our last visit, the Saturday before Mother's Day, which has become our tradition, our reservation was for 5pm. It was myself, my husband, and my 90 year old mother. We arrived about 10 minutes early, and were told we would have to wait, which was understandable. However, we weren't seated until almost 10 after 5, so I was a bit annoyed. We had requested a window table, but were told there were none available. After being seated, we found that we were directly next to a large party (10?) of 20-30 something ladies celebrating a birthday, and they were having drinks and being kind of loud. My mother was very distressed by the noise and kept covering her ears and complaining loudly, so I went to the hostess and asked to be moved, and told her why. I had noticed a family of 4 that had just vacated a table farther away from the party, and coincidently next to the window. When I asked the hostess if we could be moved, and that there were at least 2 open tables available she looked around the restaurant kind of confused, and then said NO. So I went back to the table and we all sat and gritted our teeth through the rest of the neighboring party, until they finally left. While ordering our food, we literally had to shout at the waitress to be heard. Once that party left, however, there was just normal restaurant noise after that, but at that point I was so irritated I could barely enjoy my meal. The waitress was good overall, with only one mistake, and it was not that big of a deal, and she also was kind about the substitutions due to food allergies. The food was properly prepared, and delicious. I will continue to dine at this location, but will definitely be more cognizant of where I am seated prior to accepting a table in the future. I would rather wait a few more minutes, than have to have any of our party be miserable (thereby making us miserable) during our meal.

Took 45 mins to get water & our order taken. The whole restaurant seemed lacking any flow. Our waitress seemed only to be able to handle 2 tables so she would pass by us numerous times when we needed her and we were #3? After we ordered, it took a long time & the French dip sandwich was cold and the order of Poke seemed warm? My Crab Benedict had strange tasting “crab”. I had to send it back. Overall was a great view, only fair food and poor service. The waitress gave us clams & bread while waiting. Almost 3 hours for my Mother’s Day Brunch on Saturday before Mother’s Day was not what I was expecting. It had been 10 years since I had been at Skates. Now I remember why it had been so long.

As hard as it appears they try , they do a fair job at preparing for the holiday onslaught of customers. Our waiter did his level best to make sure our food came out timely and hot.But he was thwarted by the kitchen. I guess they're no different than any other restaurant that tries to get the most money out of the holiday while sacrificing customer service.

Pleasantly surprised and had a great time (early mother’s day celebration)! Thought it may be too pretentious but the staff were all very friendly. Food and the ambience were just right! Definitely will return but this time for an evening outing and will explore their dinner offerings
