Always a nice experience at Skates - unmatched views all around and excellent food and service. A bit on the pricey side, but worth the money. The menu is a bit limited due to the pandemic, but they’ll be coming out with the full menu in a couple of weeks. If you can make it here, it will be an excellent dining experience.
All of our dishes had no taste
Perfect evening for a window table. Food and drinks delicious. Wait staff efficient.
The server was friendly, while professional. The entire atmosphere felt good. The entire staff seemed to want us to enjoy ourselves and that they were glad to be able to make that happen. I have dinned at Skates for years, but the food yesterday was superb- every bite - for all three of us. The chef outdid himself.
The smell of trash outside was so bad . A little dirty outside.
Food quality overall is very mediocre. Bread quantity not enough. At this rate this restaurant is not setting itself for success.
Our server got our appetizer order incorrectly but graciously brought us what we had originally ordered. He very kindly split our salad per our request; the salad was surprisingly very small though! Crab dip is delicious!
Still, it has a nice ambiance and is a very convenient location.
We enjoyed the food and service but the restaurant can use updated entrance flooring (slippery when wet). The staff needs to maintain the cleanliness of the restroom.
a little noisy for us old folks.................................................................
The only reason why I am giving it 2 stars is because our waitress was a sweetheart. I ordered the salmon plate and it was bland and too expensive for the taste. The portions were small. The sides were not tasty at all the oysters were end bland as though they bought them from an oyster farm. Since I cut out alcohol (which is one of their strong suits, I have no reason to go back again. Oh, and notice the hole in the napkin!
Celebrating a birthday with friends. Wonderful window table and superb waiter. The crab-artichoke dip with foccacia bread and the bib lettuce salad were outstanding, the Caesar salad a disappointment. Key lime pie for dessert was superb.
The halibut was outstanding. And the crab & artichoke dip us always a winner.
We arrived an hour early for our reservation and they were able to accommodate us with a table by the window. Our waitress was amazing and the food was delicious.
Skates on the bay is awesome! Wonderful food, great service and awesome views. Highly recommend!
I really liked the attentive server who waited on me. So rarely are they this attentive and checking to see if I liked everything.Ionly tip 20 percent for this type of service
I will return to Skates on the Bay. Everything about tis place is excellent.
We had a great dinner with great service and excellent food. What a great view!
Food great as always. Nice quiet dinner. Service was slow to start, but finished great.
Although, we were sharply on time, we had to wait 30 minutes to be assigned a table. Once seated, the waiter delayed 10 minutes to approach. Food is ok, but I was not pleased with the experience. They seem to have problems with the late reservations (8pm!!).
Great service, great views, amazing food, really cool drinks, 10/10
This place is can't miss. The service is outstanding and the food is even better.
This restaurant has such the perfect view of the San Francisco skyline. And the food is good. It’s a nice place to celebrate!
The food was amazing! The decor needs work. The service was great. The server really made sure we were comfortable and taken care of.
Fantastic as usual!
Skates always provides a perfect environment to enjoy a delicious meal while looking out over the Bay Bridge, San Francisco, and the Golden Gate Bridge. When the wind is blowing, the view is especially wonderful.
We were glad to come back to a place with great memories.
Now a Landry's property with a 20 year lease in hand. Best view in the bay area!
Hostess was friendly and effective. Waitress was new but very serious and did a good job.
Nice to see something open and available that we knew so well.
Kitchen was veryu good, bar even better.
A great place for lunch. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. The service was good. The waitstaff were attentive. We had a great experience and will be returning soon. Easy to access and plenty of parking.
The food was good and the view extraordinary. Our only issue was the too few waiters. Maybe it's the Covid times. The ones we had worked as hard as they could to make us happy.
What a dramatic view! Super helpful server. Festive atmosphere.
Lovely view, excellent food. Couldn't ask for anything better.
The view and ambience were great. The food was mediocre. I’ve been to this restaurant a few years ago and I remember the food being better. It wasn’t terrible but for the price it was ok at best. The service was terrible. We had a waiter that kept us waiting for 25 mins before we even got to order drinks or appetizers. He was so terrible he didn’t even introduce himself. Finally Alexis (another server) stepped in and took our order. We sat down at 8:25PM and it was nearly 8:50PM when we got to order anything. Throughout the whole meal the original server did not check in on us and kept forgetting our order that we had to flag down other servers for. At the end, we were rushed out. The server left the check at our table without us even asking for it. There were only a handful of tables at the time and the place wasn’t busy at all. The original server spent 10 mins chatting up another customer who had already paid and ate and completely ignored us. There were only 2 people on my party. I would have some understanding if the place was busy but it wasn’t. Would definitely NOT recommend especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion. There are lots of great places in the Bay Area with better food and service.
Not fresh seafood. We had the recommended Seafood Liguini, and the shrimps and the crab meat were not fresh at all!
Nice view of the ocean.
Will not come back .
Poor service. Asked to have cheese on side and up w cheese in salad . Replacement offered. Had yo ask for bread.
Just fantastic. Everything about Skates beat my expectations
Seems like this place is skating on its excellent location. The view of the bay from the table is unbeatable. Unfortunately, everything else about this restaurant was mediocre at best. Service, although friendly, was slow and extremely poorly trained. Our menus were left on our table for the entire meal. I never received a spoon to eat my linguini, nor did anyone check with us to see if we needed anything to make our meal better. We did have our waiter tell us in the middle of our meal to “take your time”; certainly we were taking our time, this is the sort of service I’d expect at a $5 diner, not a place that charges $40 for a small plate of pasta. Empty appetizer plates stacked beside us while we were eating our main dishes, and overall it seemed that the service was new and spread too thin. Food was ok. I could make a better cream sauce at home, and the cioppino sauce was uninspired. Definitely overpriced for what it was. Come for the view, but don’t expect a fancy restaurant experience for the high price you’ll pay.
This was our second time dining at Skates on the Bay. Everything was excellent.
It was our 53 wedding anniversary. I really wanted us to enjoy a restaurant dinner. Some places were closed for the 4th of July. A friend suggested Skates.
Although the window table was not ready when we arrived (customers still using), they had chairs where we could wait .
At first my husband did not see any main menu item that appealed, but I asked if they had a special entree which the waitress then told us was fresh Halibut and bacon rissoto. I had that and my husband decided to get the calamari appetizer and grilled ceaser salad with shrimp. We were please with the food.
Then because they knew it was a special occasion, the waitress brought a piece of walnut crust coffee flavored pie which was on the house. A gracious touch.
Also the manager came to each table to thank patrons for coming.
Great views, great service and food. The wait time was long though we had a reservation.
Started off with lipstick on my partner’s water glass and ended with warm creme brulee with a broken custard. Our experience was a far cry from the Skate’s we all knew and loved before Covid ruined restaurants.
