A great experience
Business was slow, dining and service was great!
Food was fair.
Everything went very well. The best part is if you get a window seat you can see 3 bridges.
Food good as always. We sat in the bar area and I noted that the physical space is starting to look shabby. Walls could use a coat of paint. I changed chairs as the seat of the one at my table was really stained by some unknown past liquid.
Skates is a go to for special meals. The menu offers something for everyone.
I always love to see the sunsets while having great, personable service and fabulously prepared food.
Such a beautiful location. The fish is always fresh and well prepared. We had the scallops and crab cocktail.
The staff was amazing and very attentive. The food was delicious and the ambiance was great.
Skates has been on the Berkeley Marina for 36 years, so they obviously do something right! It's a wonderful venue for special occasions, the view is spectacular. We lunched on a Saturday in March, having made reservations for a party of 6 a week in advance. The place was jammed with people, and we ended up waiting 40 minutes beyond our reservation time, in order to secure a window table. It was worth the wait as a rainy Saturday turned into glorious blue skies by the time lunch was served. The crab/artichoke appetizer w/fresh baked bread sticks was the biggest hit. Also enjoyed the crab roll sandwich, the ahi tuna, and eggs benedict. The restaurant, being super-crowded, was noisy, and the service slow, though the waiter tried very hard to be attentive. We'll return again, but try to avoid the weekends.
Excellent service. Food was ok- could have been better.
When I arrived early the staff wanted to sit me on the bar area, but I was there for a leisurely lunch with a dear friend. I asserted myself and was quickly seated at a window table in the restaurant. Our server was Ebony and she did her best to please.
The seafood Louis is light on the salmon and prawns but is very large with lots of green lettuce hard boiled eggs asparagus four or five small stalks!
Service very good and ambiance is hard to beat. The almost 5%living wage tag that they tack on you bill is very grating as the the prices are very high.Berkeley reataurants for the most part do this.I will continue to patronize this place but, maybe not as much.
Very nice lunch and excellent service!
Love the Lobster Bisque and Lobster Rolls. Lots of fresh lobster in both. Bisque is best around.
I enjoyed a wonderful evening out with my partner. The food was amazing, the view if spectacular, and my server was spot on. I couldn't recommend a better place to eat in Emeryville!
I’ve been to Skates many times and it is usually a good experience. Our server, whose name I did not catch, made a regular Sunday brunch a joyous occasion. She was attentive, charming and anticipatory. The absolute best service we’ve ever had. Kudos to her and to Skates - keep her please!
My husband and I went for a date night dinner. There were a lot of big parties there and it was pretty loud inside. A lot louder than I’ve noticed in the past. The food was good and even though they ran out of the dessert we ordered, we were offered something else. We will definitely return!
Food a bit pricey for value. Don’t mind spending money for good food but 35 for three shrimp, noodles and a sprinkle of crab meat. NEVER Again
Very crowded and noisy when we got there, but things eased up a bit after we were seated. Caesar salad was only okay as it didn't contain any anchovies and when I asked for some the server said they don't have any!!
The grilled salmon was delicious as was my wife's prime rib. The desserts were both disappointing.
We like Skates for the spectacular view and easy parking. It's one of our "go to" places for family celebrations, trying times, and visiting relatives. There are many places in the East Bay with better, more interesting food but Skates is pretty safe and reliable, which is hard to find in many waterfront restaurants.
Beautiful setting and very tasty food. Wonderful service. Overall, a lovely dining experience.
Awesome evening!! Food and service was great
I hear with cochlear implants and it was way too loud for me but as usual the view is wonderful.
We ask our server several times for some small item and it was slow to come or not at all.
Perfect restaurant with an awesome view of the Bay and San Francisco. Best place to take your friends and family visiting from other states that do not have ocean close by.
One of my favorite appetizers is the artichoke crab dip served with warm crusty focaccia bread: delicious! The Black Cod and the baked Mahi Mahi were superb. The dessert gets an A+: cheesecake with a layer of double fudge cake, topped with raspberry sauce and fresh raspberries: out of this world!
Service at the bar was great and the food was fantastic. Our bartender was awesome, she was very attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu and the offerings!
Loved the ambiance and our table. I was disappointed that my food was not hot. I felt like it had sat for awhile before coming to the table.
Appetizers, salads, 3 of 4 entrees and desserts were very good (mussels were OK but a bit shrunken). Waitress was cordial, but appetizers came out late, and both wine selections were unavailable, about which we were told as food was being served.
Window table was very nice, but on a busy Saturday night, very noisy.
I had crab stuffed mahi... fantastic food! Can't wait to go back!
Delicious dinner and acceptable service once waiter took us into his area after noticing that we had not been approached. Entrees served before we had finished salads and never asked if we cared for another cocktail. Views are fabulous but felt a little rushed.
Went here for the view and for good food. View was great however the food and service was below average. It took us over10 minutes to get a glass of wine and we had to ask the server multiple times about it. The food was below average but with upscale prices.
I love Skates on the Bay! It was my normal server who did amazing as usual. The food was good but took longer than usual. The manager was friendly and accommodating. A downside is they are now part of The Landry group. It is now use your points or loose them. I have a lot of points that transferred (I was saving for a wine paired dinner that is now not offered) but I was not able to use my Birthday reward because I would have to use my other points too. 😢 Love the restaurant but it is a loss now that the are a Landry
Everything was great! The service and the food was really good.
Service was inconsistent, ranging from hovering to needing to be asked for things, e.g. would think he would ask if we wanted ketchup when fries are delivered or cream & sugar when coffee is delivered.
The view and ambiance never disappoint. 🥰
Great view of the sunset and the city. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was excellent.
Skates on the Bay is a really special SF and Berkeley treat. You can't beat the view; the food is outstanding and the staff is exceptionally professional, friendly and welcoming. Their lobster bisque is second to none and also one of the very few places where you can order it in the Bay Area with the delicate pastry and extra lobster on top. The experience is very special overall and it is always a delightful adventure.
Super table by water!
