   The view is amazing. Sitting on the water with the whole bay spread out in front of you is a delight. It is very rare for a restaurant with such a great view to also have great food. Skates is no exception. The food was good, nothing memorable -- either on the good side or the bad side. Service was attentive and friendly.

   Just moved back to the Bay Area and I wanted to visit Skates again. We went for an anniversary lunch and it was fantastic. Great seafood and excellent service. The server remembered it was our anniversary (stated that with our reservation) and brought us a crème brûlée for desert. Great experience!

   The food: food and cocktails were great! We ordered filet, lobster tail, salad and sides. The cocktails were hand crafted and delicious. The service: horrible. Too many guests per server, many tables including ours were waiting far too long for basic things like water refills and our server forgot to add our Mac and Cheese to the order so my daughter finished her steak before her side arrived.

   Great view, restaurant was crowded and did not seem to have enough staff for reception and service. Food was ok, servers were very nice but clearly overworked and did not have enough time to spend at each table.

   I had an amazing time at Skates on the Bay in Berkeley, California. From the moment we arrived, the host was incredibly welcoming, and our waitress provided outstanding service throughout the evening. The atmosphere was beautiful—sitting by the fireplace while watching the sunset made the night feel extra special.

   Slow service considering the volume of customers there. Service was slow. Waiter forgot our Caesar salad. 7 people at our table. 1st order of steamed clams too salty and pretty flavorless. 2nd order of clams and linguini, same pretty flavorless, and came with shrimp (not ordered). 3rd dish salmon club, overcooked fish and too cumbersome to be a sandwich. 4th dish, hamburger, acceptable. 5th dish was a crab open face sandwich, not overwhelming. 6th dish, chicken and mashed potatoes...cold. 7th dish was crab stuffed shrimp with veg risotto......the best meal on the table, very good. The last meal we had at Skates was excellent. Maybe something slips with the service and kitchen in the early afternoon

   Dinner with great view. Excellent fresh seafood and first rate meats at a reasonable price. Staff very friendly and attentive. Prime rib and grilled salmon are top rung. I dine there regularly and its a great place to take out of town visitors.

   Our server, Brittney, helped make our first visit to Skates a wonderful experience! We enjoyed cocktails, black cod, special, Sampler Plate, wine & dessert. The views were amazing & we hope to get a seat closer to the window next time:)

   Usually, I give Skates a five star review, but they have removed the best dish on their old menu…Shrimp, grits and fried green tomatoes! All of staff agreed with us…bring back the Shrimp & Grits dish! Bring back the Shrimp & Grits dish and I’ll go back to giving Skates at five star review! Maybe I should start a petition! Paul

    We enjoyed a late Sunday lunch with friends at Skates. After a brief wait we were shown to a lovely window table. Service was friendly and quite attentive despite being busy. Fish and chips, Caesar salad with crab meat, the salmon BLT were all very good. Best of all, we chatted a long time and weren’t hurried. We’ll be back!
