Sisters at the Martha
We loved it! Very nice people and the food was great!
Like everything at The Martha, Sisters is first class. Comfortable, but at the same time upscale. Dinner was a delight as was breakfast.
We went to the restaurant for a Christmas celebration. My husband ordered the artisan cheese plate for us and he ordered the Oli Olio which he enjoyed very much. I got the Dijon Chicken which was great. We each had a salad and they were very good. My daughter ordered the tuna steak and it was so rare it made her sick. She could not eat much of it. She did not want to make a fuss and ruin our dinner. I did not know anything was wrong until we got back home. She got really sick that night. We got the bread pudding and it also was very good. Over all my husband and I were pleased with our food. But my daughter said she did not know if she could ever eat tuna again. She said it was barely warm. I think for fine dining I would not recommend anyone ordering that dish again until something improves. I know tuna is not served well done but some places do serve it medium rare. I was disappointed that my daughter had this experience for our Christmas celebration and then got sick too.
We enjoyed our visit very much. We plan to return this summer and stay at the Inn. We want to spend more time in Abingdon.
Was disappointed in the menu. I quess wi would have liked to see more choices especially with beef. I thought the prices were a little high for what you got. Should offer more side with the main course. Will check the menu on line before our next trip. Overall a good experience.
My husband and I enjoy the ambiance and service at this restaurant. The food is normally great. This last time we went we ordered filet mignon cooked to medium and one came out to us rare. Our server looked horrified when she saw the inside of our steak and immediately offered to take it back to the kitchen even before we said anything. When it came back out it was still pretty rare and cold. Our server was fantastic and apologized even though it was not her fault. She did give us a complimentary dessert to make up for the chef’s error. We had a lovely time together and will go back.
The tables were close. Hard to move without disturbing others.
The ambience was perfect for Thanksgiving day dinner with a first date that I met online. Both the meal and the woman I met that night were remarkable.
We started with the deviled eggs and kale/artichoke dip which were both perfectly prepared. We chose the turkey and short ribs for entrees and we would recommend either of these. The vegetables served were fantastic with the roasted sweet potatoes with bananas being the highlight for us both. We were too full to enjoy the dessert there but the pumpkin pie and bread pudding were enjoyed by us when we returned to our respective homes.
The portions were ample and we both had to take leftovers home. I honestly don’t know if we couldn’t eat it all because of the portions or if the chemistry we were sharing had stolen our appetites.
We truly enjoyed this whole experience and would like to make reservations for Thanksgiving 2022 when we will return to marry.
My wife and I went to Sisters for Thanksgiving dinner and were delighted with the entire experience.
We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this evening before attending a play at the Barter. Everything about our meal was above and beyond EXCELLENT. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much for making our evening special!
Both our entrees had too many noodles for the price and not enough veg or seafood. My husband's mussles were overcooked. My veg dish had too many carrots and some chopped green veg that were overcooked and had lost their color...not enough variety of colorful vegetables for the price.
The duck legs were also overcooked.
Sisters at the Martha was excellent as always. They have a good wine selection, and the server-recommended toffee bread pudding for dessert was outstanding!
Friendly, comfortable, with good menu. Food delicious.
The service and the food were both outstanding. I enjoy Sisters each time we come there to dine.
The food was good, but not outstanding. The food lacked in seasoning. Service was great. The wine list provided did not match what was available.
Although the food tasted good, for the price of the dinner entrees i would have expected at least an additional side or salad to be included. Key lime pie was not memorable. Not the tart lime flavor baked yummy kind. A bit like instant pudding and cool whip. Redeeming qualities were the historic dining room and a quiet room. Absolutely no music playing. Right across from the Barter Theater for easy dining pre theater. Probably would recommend only for a first time theater visitor's convenience. A one time for me.
The food was amazingly delicious! We had the deviled eggs and cheese plate for starters. My husband had the crab bisque and it was wonderful! Very light and refreshing. For our entrees, we had filet and salmon. Filet was so tender you didn’t need a knife. Salmon was fresh and sweet. For dessert, we had the chocolate and banana cake, which I thought was very dry but my husband had the peanut butter creme brûlée and it was so refreshing and light!
Everything was wonderful - the food, the service, the atmosphere. We will definitely go back.
Overall we were disappointed. The lighting was so poor I could hardly read the menu which was quite limited and not at all as advertised on the website. Perhaps that had been a lunch menu but when questioned our waiter said they don't serve lunch. We won't be back.
We made early reservations due to a play that we were going to see. Service quite slow, appetizer of hummus good, wife enjoyed tuna appetizer. My pasta was only fair and was half eaten due to need for us to be on time for the play.
The hotel included breakfast as part of a package. In general a typical breakfast not bad but not outstanding.
Excellent food! Loved the menu. Took my family there to celebrate Mother's Day to enjoy Sunday brunch. Everyone really had a good time and commented how much they enjoyed the meal.
There was only one thing that all of us though was very odd and it was the fact that the tv was on the entire time during the brunch. It's one thing to see a tv in a bar area but this was a very nice, upscale ambiance so none of us appreciated having it on in the background. If it were not for the tv, I would have rated it a 5 star experience.
Tried the new menu for the first time and was not disappointed! My husband, cousin and I all enjoyed our entree. Amazing! Thank you for a delightful dinner!
Dinner for 2 on a Sunday evening was a very pleasant experience. Our server was personable and attentive. We selected an appetizer, salad, 2 pasta entrees and dessert . Everything was presented in a timely fashion The food presentation was attractive and it tasted delicious. We will return !
Easter Sunday occasion. A bit expensive but food and service made up for price.
My partner and I decided to visit Sister's before watching a play at the Barter. The menu items are extraordinarily overpriced, and the service is slow and unenthusiastic. I didn't finish my food because the noodles were over cooked to inedibility. Our desserts were the only items I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off on. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing, and the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic night out. It's a shame that such a beautiful restaurant fails to serve quality entrées. If you decide to visit, be sure to grab dessert because it was delicious.
We had a large group (8 people). Waiter was prompt and attentive. Food was excellent. The desserts were to die for.
Not a huge fan of the new menu smaller portion size for the price and a lot of fluff. Waitress was outstanding just disappointed in the price for quantity and quality of food. Miss old menu/chef
The highlight of our visit was first the wonderful service and then the tasty meal. Great atmosphere. And did I mention the service was great!
We were the only couple dining. Aside from 3 people at the bar, we were alone. Staff was very friendly. Menu is limited. Food is good. Prices are high.
Awful - when we requested a table away from the noise we got a huffy response that "we seat by sections" duh - you and every other place ever.
Then the 2 dollar up charge to go from mashed potatoes to basmati rice - they are both inexpensive plates fillers
We had a free glass of wine for everyone on tour party coupon - we were told "we aren't taking those anymore" really nice breach of promise - so for your 2 eight dollar glasses of wine you lost a regular (monthly) customer who drops at least 150 each time
Awesome night manager Britt and server Courtney
We were seated, and then they forgot about us. We watched 4 other tables get seated, order their drinks, and even order their food before I finally waved down a server. They had just forgotten about us. The meal was fine, the service, once we had it, was fair, and the restaurant is overall a nice quiet place.
We were celebrating our anniversary. We were disappointed in the service and food. The restaurant does not meet the standards of the rest of Martha Washington Inn.
Five star rating in all categories ! Just like last year ! Great service, menu and ambience.
Couldn't have been better. Will surely be back in 2018 !!!!
Loved it and cant wait to go back, best hamburgers and fries I have ever had!
A little disappointing. We were a party of four seated at a round table that was better suited for six or more. Very hard to have a conversation. My steak was over cooked and not very tender. Definitely not worth what I paid. The server apologized and offered to bring me another one, or give me a free dessert. The crowd at the bar was a rowdy while watching a football game and yelling obscenities. It made the patrons in the restaurant a little uncomfortable.
It is a bit pricey, but Sisters never fails to impress. The service, food, and ambience are spectacular.
I was disappointed by the "uneveness" of our Thanksgiving dinner. Shrimp served without shrimp forks, gravy that was heavy and unappetizing. The cranberry sauce looked to be out of a can rather than freshly made. The vegetables, however, were quite good especially the succotash. The turkey was nicely done, but the prime rib was lacking flavor and juices.
Our waiters were attentive - service was good.
Went to Sisters while on weekend getaway. food was delicious, loved the potato soup. Nice and cozy atmosphere by the fireplace.
My wife and I had a meal here before going to a play. The food was good and the room was great for two couples to have a conversation over dinner.
A lovely setting, delicious food, and excellent service. Our family group of 6 was seating at a comfortable round table and given much attention by our waitress. We all enjoyed our meals and the wine suggested by the waitress.
