Brought friends visiting from CA. We had a window seat overlooking the falls. The food, cocktails, wine and service were wonderful. They loved the bar, restaurant and store. And they were thrilled to witness the glass blowing downstairs.
The location is great, the service is great (at least what I've seen)... I just wish the food lived up to the "standout" standard that this establishment appears to be shooting for. Aside from signature dishes like their cheddar soup, nothing I've had over the years is really memorable... the few times I've been here, my take away is generally, "I thought [that dish] was going to be better." Maybe they are catering to a less culinarily adventurous target audience, but the meals come across bland. Due to the nature of large tables they accommodate, noise can also be an issue--which instantly kills the romance of even the most civilized surrounding. At these prices, in this setting, I want something more than a safe place to take my well-heeled family to.
Very much the right ambiance and attention to everything needed for a couple to focus on small talk and each other instead of all-too-common restaurant distractions. Whether nothing went awry or our server took care of anything prior to it becoming noticeable to us, Simon Pearce restaurant behaved for us in all respects above its peers. Well done!
We went to Simon Pearce for my birthday-- good food, friendly waitress, and a nice ambiance
Our meal was outstanding. We were dotted at a table overlooking the river. Our lovely server urged me to go to the rooftop deck to take a picture of the sunset on the river- it was spectacular! A wonderful evening.
Execellent food and atmosphere. This is a must stop anytime we are in Vermont.
Wonderful! Horseradish Cod was exquisite and the best restaurant dinner we’ve had in 2018!
Consistently good. Great atmosphere and great food.
Always excellent food and service. With the store and workroom it's always a fun place to bring out of town guests.
AT first we were seated at a small table against a wall. I asked the host if there was another table we could have as it was our 48th Wedding Anniversary. After consulting w/staff, he wisked us to an outdoor table right on the water that could have seated 4 people although we were only two. Our waitress was very attentive and kindly wished us a Happy Anniversary. It was so very perfect an evening. The restaurant went out of the way in making our Anniversary special.
We visited Simon Pearce Restaurant for the first time and found it to be spectacular! From the beautiful table settings to the server, unbelievable food and special special ambiance, we truly had a magical night! The Cod, the Vermont cheese soup and the Maple cheesecake were the best of their categories we have ever eaten! Thank you for making our trip from California so memorable!
Great food. Great service. Great experience!
We've been in the Upper Valley for 12 years, but surprisingly had never been to Simon Pearce until this week to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We sat at a two person table atop the falls separated only by glass so the setting was perfect. Literally everything about the food, from the bread to the dessert, and the ambiance exceeded our expectations. Loved the gem lettuce salad with green goddess dressing, the prosciutto and asparagus appetizer was to die for, the halibut was prepared perfectly and the maple baklava was the best I've ever had. The service was attentive and impeccable; the waitress knew the menu inside out and never let us be without. Definitely, the place in the Upper Valley for a special occasion or Saturday night date! We'll certainly be back.
It was a damp and chilly evening for early fall and the dining room was slightly chilly.
As always- great meal and phenomenal service. One of our favorite places in the Upper Valley!
We enjoyed a lovely evening celebrating the launch of Upper Valley Buddy Up Tennis! The restaurant, glassworks, beautiful shop and the dramatic setting are truly an experience not to be missed if one is ever lucky enough to be near Quechee!! Thank you, Simon, Pia and David. Fondly, the Barbours, Columbus, Ohio.
The view over the waterfalls was breathtaking! The food was amazing. So fresh and creative. A perfect night!
Everything was superb from salad to dessert!
My favorite restaurant ever! I am 59 from Upstate NY and have frequented this restaurant over the span of 20 or so years. Never ever did I find even one little complaint. A must go to when in Vermont!
The entries (haddock and roast duck) were outstanding in quality and presentation. The surroundings are also exceptional with views of the falls and the adjacent Simon Pearce gallery which, of course, supplies all the dinnerware.
Another wonderful birthday dinner at Simon Pearce. They accommodated my request for a lovely private table for two on the patio overlooking the river and waterfall. The evening was splendid and so - as usual - was the food.
Across-the-board great as always. Love, love, love the setting.
I've eaten here 20 times over the past 20 years. It used to be my go to place for the Woodstock and Hanover area. I found my experience this week to be average. Below-average at the hostess stand. Average service. Average food. Nothing exciting. I was quite sad actually. Too much horseplay and chatting between the staff. Everything was delayed. Not at all the professional atmosphere I used to see at Simon Pearce. Just boring. I used to feel so special. That was not my experience Sept 2018. Maybe next time it will be back to the standards we used to enjoy.
Everything was spectacular especially the manager who was delightfully helpful when our gift card had trouble being applied to the bill. Many thanks to her for her efforts.
Amazing food and ambiance. View of th he waterfall is spectacular.
A great dinner with college roommate as we remininsced and celebrated 50 yrs of friendship.
Disappointed in menu and lack of fresh, brightly colored vegetables accompanying the main courses, e.g. the roast duck with its overall brown appearance. Has the chef no imagination with all the lovely vegetables available in farmer's markets everywhere in Vermont. One should not have to order a salad for some color. Also recommend not adding lemon curd to meringue. The latter is already sweet and needs unsweetened whipped cream for a Pavlova!
Also restaurant reported that we has not shown up for our reservation. Unacceptable!
We have been to Simon Pearce many times and each visit has been wonderful! The food is always amazing and the chef does an excellent job incorporating local farm products into a creative menu. One of our favorite restaurants in New England!
We were disappointed with our seating and the food was not up to the level of our previous visits.
Good food-- good service-- great ambience -- we enoyed it
We visited the Woodstock area for 3 nights - we dined at Simon-Pierce 2 of the 3 nights. We had a romantic table setting, our dinners were creative & delicious, the wine list was to our liking. Great service, always helpful & courteous. Highly recommend!
Excellent food and ambiance - service needs to be stepped up a bit - not very attentive waitresses on the 2 occasions i donned there in the past week
We ate here with friends for my birthday. The food was fabulous-we all loved our meals but the cod won the prize-best I’ve ever had! It’s a lovely setting even though we didn’t have a “falls view”. Our waitress Kim was very personable and had a great sense of humor. She really made it fun and gave great recommendations on food. If it wasn’t 300 miles away we’d come back next week!
We've been going to SP since it opened and have never been disappointed. The food, staff, ambiance and drinks are always something special. Can't wait to go again.
The restaurant & Woodstock are such a special place. We love visiting from the CT Shoreline.
Food was well presented. Beautiful dining room with a view. It was surprising that we had to wait in line for a table even though we had a reservation. One of us at the table had an allergy to dairy and asked for the dessert without the ice cream. Ice cream was still served with the dessert. Not all ingredients are listed in descriptions of the dishes. You need to be sure to ask for details if you have food allergies.
Disappointing--way below average. What is the kitchen doing here? Our food had no flavor: the peach/buratta appetizer contained unripe, uncuttable peaches and a bland buratta. It was served ed in a stylish but utterly unusable bowl which made it impossible to deal with its contents. My prosciutto/asparagus/melon appetizer was made of a dried-out slice or two of prosciutto, several tough stalks of asparagus, and a couple of thin slices of some sort of tasteless melon. Main courses: tagliatelle pasta with ordinary cherry tomatoes, and a very dry tough pork chop, accompanied by some more tough asparagus, and a few undefinable other tastes. The service was poor: our server had too many tables to serve. It took us TWO HOURS to be served two courses--and the dining room wasn't busy! There were many unoccupied tables all around us. On the plus side, the ice cream was very good--it came from a nearby dairy farmer. Speaking of that--they boast of the many Vermont farmer they use, but this entire dinner could have come straight off the Sysco truck!
Although we've eaten well there before, we aren't likely to return. Good-bye, Simon!
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food!
Returning once again, great all over
