Shokudo - Honolulu
Bad service, we ordered and order was displaced no apology asked for box for leftovers, not give.
Friend moving away
We love Shokudo and now with Open Table online reservations it’s awesome to plan a family dinner with an amazing menu.
We were seated promptly and our food was delicious as always.
Outstanding welcome at front desk. First time ever. Two smiling faces.
Shokudo ramen pork was too tough. Broth too garlicky. Always order the same ramen. It's usually top notch. Not today.
Tempura side order and spider roll are excellent. (However, heard sushi maker coughing. Yikes!)
Overall experience was average. Our seating was tight, meant for party of 6. Food was tasty but it seems kitchen and sushi chef had hard time keeping up with orders. Due to delay, cancelled stone pot and sushi orders. Waiter was very pleasant and helpful.
Loved the honey toast.
Very good, thank you for accommodating a large group.
The service was great. The food was fresh and appealing. The soup stock was a little heavy, but delicious. First time ordering the Honey Toast and it was onolicious.
Great find during our day in Honolulu. Loved the spicy miso ramen and selection of sushi and sashimi . our server Daniel took excellent care of us during a busy lunch time.
we will be back - thank you so much Shokudu for a memorable dining experience
Food was very good, when it actually came out to table. Unfortunately the service was uncoordinated and quite slow. Was at restaurant for 2 and 1/2 hours and still had not received all dinner entrees to table. One of our party actually never received dinner at all, although restaurant tried to charge us for it even though we never received. It would be difficult to find a place as uncaring and with no concern for your experience. Waiter was polite, but unable to handle our table of 10. Manager was not aware and provided no response other than an insincere, ‘I’m sorry’ when we spoke with him. So to sum up the experience would be this: Food was good, but save your time and spend your money elsewhere in Honolulu as there are much better establishments aiming to give you both good food and a pleasant experience.
Food was delicious! Loved the honey toast too!
It was New Year’s Eve, so they were busy, but it was a wonderful evening overall!
Great food and fabulous service!
Great service and had a lot of options that each guest got to choose and share . Great place to go before a Broadway show at the Blaisdell. Service was great :) and must get the Honey Toast dessart, they have small size now :)
Good food. Good service.
Waiter forgot our sushi order then blames the chef. Took way too long to finally get the order to us after we pointed it out. Then had to wait long time for desert and again long wait for check. As bad as service was, so was the next table who were FaceTiming someone with volume up high. Food was not special. Will not go back.
Family time. Great plates for sharing and sampling, also delicious cocktails. Always one of my favorite spots for special occasions.
Celebrating my wife’s birthday!
The food we ordered came quickly and well-presented. Over all, it was good. Not amazing, but good. A bit pricey for what was delivered- even for sushi. Would eat here again, but after trying a few more spots.
5 of us ordered family style and enjoyed all the dishes - tofu salad, mochi cheese, lobster roll, Sukiyaki bimbap and pizza. Thank you for the delicious bread pudding tempura for my birthday. I love the 20% coupon that I was able to use that I had cut out from the newspaper.
The food is always delicious and there's enough variety on the menu for even a vegan (my brother-in-law). The Homemade Tofu salad is a "must have" whenever I go to Shokudo. One of my favorite dishes!
We used to go to Shokudo a lot and loved this place
Hadn’t been in over a year but when occasion arose we wanted to celebrate there
The menus were tattered and gross
That chairs we were sitting in were worn and torn
The food portions smaller and we received raw chicken karaage
The service was pleasant but slow and the place was not too crowded
To finish the night we were waiting for the famous Honey Toast- but again disappointed. There was barely any flavor
Overall not the Shokudo we used to love. In desperate need of a makeover!
Good value for what you order. The honey toast is a must!
Alex our server was awesome. Big thank you to Calvin for accommodating our special drink request as well, we really appreciated it. We celebrated our best friends birthday & she really enjoyed the entire dining experience
It was busy night but services was slow. They didn’t ask if we needed water. It was about 10 minutes when we finally got water. We were here to try out the Hawaii restaurant week. The set menu was perfect but the food was coming to fast. It was hard to enjoy but overall it was delicious.
Service was okay, food was good but the menu's were very worn and good looking. Haven't been to this restaurant in a while but got the feeling it had gone down in appearance. The menu also looked like the amount of dishes got smaller unless it was because of being lunch.
We enjoyed our dinner here! When we want tempura we head for Shokudo. Does not disappoint!
If we went earlier, we could have taken advantage of your generous Early Bird offerings.
There’s always next time! Tofu salad is one of my fav too!
Location was hard to locate. Greeting could’ve improved dramatically but the food was pretty good and our server was splendid.
What happened to this place? It was not the Shokudo experience I remember... though their happy hour and desserts are not bad - maybe this will just no longer be a "dinner" option.
-Their desserts are still fun and delicious! The Honey Toast is still a fave and the Flambé is still a nice show.
-Parking is still free.
-It started with the menus that the lamination was almost completely peeled back... that was a very poor first impression for a celebratory dinner.
-Then our table's 2/3 drinks were delivered (an Asahi from the bottle and a mixed drink), except I waited until our server came back to take our dinner order to remind him of the Draft Kirin I ordered...
-Finally, we were advised the fryer is "lagging" and our pork chops, Katsu, and tempura was on its way... my nephew at his fries first and then the Katsu came out AND then it wasn't until we all finished eating and ready to order desserts did my mom receive her pork chops.
(Our server was kind enough to explain that there was another table who ordered the pork chops and it mistakenly went there so the kitchen is making hers right away.)
-Not really a "con" but this was just uncomfortable... the super narrow "walkway" between the host stand and the front door- that's a nice squeeze to get in and out of that upper section. Maybe consider making the path larger and/or moving the host outside? But that's just being nit-picky about the overall experience.
-After looking at a photo I took of my Chicken Soba Salad, it could totally be my eyes, but it still looks a little pink.
Food at Shokudo never disappoints! Always came here with my husband for some date nights in the past. Its the first time we brought our kids and they loved everything we ordered. Will definitely be back with my kids soon.
Overall.. it was a decent experience.
The only issue, was the service. Our waitress took a very long time to come over and take our order. It was a slow night from what I remember.
However, we enjoyed the food and company of friends.
We arrived 10 minutes before happy hour ended and were not able to order drinks, as last call for happy hour was apparently 5:45. We ordered four rolls, and each roll had twice as much rice as you typically want in a roll, and half as much fish. For the price, this was certainly the worst sushi dinner we’ve had.
After 6 pm background music very loud and generally with guest coming, very noisy.
Food was delicious with good portions and variety to choose from.
Four friends went to celebrate one of our birthdays mid-afternoon. The menus we were given were tattered, the laminate coating coming off the corners rolling up! Then our miso soup was horribly luke warm! They brought us new bowls that was much better temperature-wise. The tofu salad I have loved over the years was not the same ~ the tofu they used on it was mealy and granular (probably old, left over), compared to the side dish tofu that was included with my bento! Overall I was terribly disappointed with the quality of food; they were once top-notch but I've noticed have steadily deteriorated.
I will not be surprised when this restaurant closes and I will definitely not return, even if someone else is paying the bill because there are so many other restaurants to choose from here in Honolulu. So Sad it has fallen out of grace, but thanks for the earlier great food, Shokudo! Sayonara!
Our server Pono was welcoming and attentive. The food was very ONO as usual. I brought 5 colleagues from different parts of the continent which were their 1st time to Shokudo. They left happy! Then Ryan, as the manager he greeted us warmly with a smile. He recognized that I was a repeat customer. Good experience.
I have reservations for a business lunch back at Shokudo in 3 weeks.
Mahalo, Larry Kekaulike
Family from neighbor islands were visiting
We had a party of 8. Server added the gratuity to the bill ( which is fine ) but didn’t say anything when he dropped the check.
Not sure if anyone saw it on the menu but atleast say something when dropping the check. Or circle it.
Wonderful as always
We go to Shokudo at least once a year for lunch. This time, our server was really excellent! She got us drinks that are usually served only at dinner time and the food that we ordered was sooo good!!! We all enjoyed ourselves!!
Ordered several dishes but the Mochi Cheese, Ume Cucumber salad, Sushi Pizza, and Honey Toast were our favorites. Our server was very good.
Pono our server was great and so was the manager who dealt with a little issue we had. Very professional
