We were there on an evening that was not busy. The food was good but everything was brought to the table at the same time, the salads and the entry. I had to remind the server that I ordered a beer, which she forgot to bring. The dessert was good as was the coffee.
I believe our waiter was Eric. He didn't seem friendly or very involved in his job. The first time I've been disappointed in a server at your restaurant.
The food, as always, was superb.
Great Charlottesville find. Wonderful dining, service and location.
Food and service were uniformly excellent. Noise abatement would help a lot towards overall fulfillment.
Very crowded on a Friday at 6:30pm. I highly recommend a reservation. Service was fast and efficient and the food was hot and delicious. Rally great crab cake...mostly meat! And our steaks were perfect. We really enjoyed our meal. It was quite noisy I guess because of the crowd.
Excellent restaurant. Sampled the she crab soup which was delicious. We also had fried shrimp, calamari and a caesar salad. All were excellent. They also serve awesome home made dinner rolls. We were served by a wonderful waitress name Mary who was professional but also very friendly and seemed truly interested in making our experience terrific. Moderate to high price but well worth it. Wide range of clientele from families to retirees like us. We will definitely come back next time in the area.
Shadwells is our favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. They have the best ribeye. The server Mary is absolutely wonderful too.
Taking my son and his friends for dinner!!
Our service by Charlie was excellent, he was very personable and efficient. The food at Shadwell's is okay; not extraordinary but certainly adequate. It can get a bit noisy but can't fault folks for talking and enjoying.
Not a great place. Poor service by unhappy looking servers. Mediocre food with relatively high price. I would not return.
Good food, casual atmosphere, all around great choice. We will be back
We had a group of 9 individuals and I had called ahead to request an enclosed space for a meeting. We were given a back room that did not have a door to block out noise. The room was quite cold; the manager stated that she tried to bump up the heat but the system was slow to respond. We had one server, who was polite and attentive but did not smile. The food was very good. Two individuals got Cobb Salad with Shrimp, which they loved. Two individuals got salmon with rice and asparagus, which they enjoyed. Two of us got crab cakes, which were very tasty. Everyone was happy with their food choices. The bill was brought to me without asking individuals if they wanted dessert. Five people ordered dessert, cheese cake, which they enjoyed. The bill had to be adjusted, which seemed awkward.
The food was very good. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. She checked on us frequently. Our arrived quickly.
We eat at Shadwells everytime we are in Charlottsville. Staff are friendly, food is excellent and the she crab soup is the best anywhere.
The food and service at Shadwell's were great! The ambiance, however, was drab and almost dismal. The great walls and heavy, dark trim with very few decorations left a lot to be desired. Thank goodness the food and service were good.
We had a wonderful evening. The Food, Family and Fun could not have been better. We are so impressed with our waiter. We have had him several times and look forward to next time. Thank you!
Went for Valentine's Day. Had a reservation for 6pm and were seated right at 6. At 6:25, I asked the host to find us a waiter. That's kind of how it went. Slow service, no one seemed terribly interesting in making it any kind of memorable meal. When I spend $100 on dinner, I just expect more. The steaks and baked potatoes were fine, but no different from going to Outback Steakhouse. The she-crab soup was very good. We won't be back, I think Shadwell's survives on a reputation established long ago, and no longer represents the experience there.
Shadwell’s was an excellent choice for a Valentine’s Day date with my wife. The service was excellent. The food was delicious - fresh salads and dressings, the best baked potatoe we’ve had in Charlottesville, and the entree’s were cooked to perfection. We plan to go back soon.
This visit was for my birthday. It was the first time visit for my daughter and her family. Everyone was disappointed in the food. My oysters were small and not very tasty. The vegetarian lasagna was all cheese and not tasty.
We really enjo
This was my first and probably last visit! I would recommend Shadwells based solely on the food...which was better than average. Presentation was okay. Advertisements and the outside design of the building leave you to believe the inside will deliver. Deliver it does not!! It is very grey and very bland...cafeteria style with bright lighting and loud, but not in a good way. No decor, plant, or features of design anywhere, unless of course you claim the few simple chandeliers? One can only hope that they are in the middle of getting ready to introduce a design explosion...and SOON!! From my prospective....
All 3 of us enjoyed our meal. We each had different orders. The spare ribs were absolutely fabulous. So much meat I took half home for another delicious meal on Monday. She crab soup was as yummy as ever and the pecan chicken was also a hit. The dining room was missing any decoration so the place seemed sort of dead and dark but the noise level was acceptable. Bar much brighter thanks to windows.
Lights too bright. No music.
Their filet mignon is tops. Cooked perfectly as ordered. Husband had crab cakes that he said were really good. Took one home and said it held up very well overnight. Our waiter Mike couldn't have been better. We really like Shadwell's.
We loved all the Restaurant Week choices....didn't think there would be so many. Our waiter was exceptional - very friendly, helpful, and so, so nice. Our meals were delicious, and generous enough that we could bring some home for another meal the next day, which is always good!
Lively atmosphere fun great food
Always enjoy our visits to Shadwell and especially enjoy restaurant week. Food is very good, especially the she-crab soup. We had the short ribs and while very tender, they were far too salty. I'd avoid ordering them again. Our server was attentive and ready to meet all our needs.
Had been here several times and thought it was good, but average. This visit upgraded my opinion significantly. We went during restaurant week because they had one of the best prefix menus being offered, and at a good value. Our expectations were exceeded. Service was great, as was the food. Portions were so large that we actually had to box dessert for later.
The only bad thing I could say in that the inside decor needs some work to make it more welcoming. The walls are blank grey, the lighting is sort of dark, etc. It needs a good bit of softening with some art and such, and that would also help with the noise.
Otherwise, it was great, and we will definitely be going back after our experience.
The food was amazing and the portion sizes were huge. The service was a little slow and the restaurant was very plain. But overall, it was a great experience.
We had a 6:15 pm dinner reservation and were there on time.
Finally a waitress came and took our order.
We ordered one meal of cream of chicken soup and a sirloin steak.
Also a meal of a Caesar salad and salmon.
We were served the salad and soup.
Soup was hot but full of vegetables and small bits of chicken.
We waited and waited and waited.
When we had been there an hour and no dinner we said we would pay for soup and salad and leave.
We asked to see the manager but were told she said she was too busy to come talk to us.
Is Shadwell’s a no customer service eatery?
The waitress at first refused to call the manager.
We will think twice before going there again!!
Great food, great service and an amazing experience as always!
This was my first time eating here, and I must say the food was very good. The 2 things that stood out to me were there is no ambiance, the walls are bare, there are no pictures, not even any in reference to local scenery, after the restaurant is called Shadwell's, the other thing was when we order, we received out first course, we had only taken a couple of bites of it and our second course was already on the table, which means by the time we were about half way out first course, our second course was already getting cold. However, i would try this place again, like I said it was my first time there, I would be willing to give it another try.
I was disappointed in my last visit. Waiter hurried us out the door. Food was just OK. Visit before ordered filet mignon and was served chuck roast.
Service was very good - all that could be expected. The concrete floors detracted from the ambiance.
We were a table of 3 placed in a side room which included 2 large parties. The noise was deafening such that we were unable to hear each other. Also waitress was unorganized and short in her responses. This was my friend’s first visit here and I had raved about it. I was embarrassed. The food as usual was awesome though!
Service was slow. My friend and I were basically ignored when we got there. We had to tell the hostess we had been sitting there for 30 minutes and no one asked us if we wanted anything to drink. The overall service for food was slow, but it was very busy being a Holiday.
We didn't have a waitress and they found someone else to serve us. He was very nice and did a good job.
It was very loud in there.
Not sure if I would come back.
We have eaten at Shadwells many times and always enjoy the experience. Thank you especially to our server who made an extra effort to get whipped cream for our Irish coffee. I would recommend this place to any & everyone.
Using the open table app made reservations a snap. Stairwells is our favorite place in Charlotesville for crab cakes! Everyone was pleased with their choice!
Visited on Christmas Eve and was pleasantly surprised by the menu options and quality of food. The wait and host staff were especially great.
