Sens is French for the word meaning "Sense," which refers to the faculties of sight, sound, smell, and taste that humans perceive this as stimuli originating from the body inside and out.

At Sens we love the process of cooking and its end result, complete happiness. Our inspiration is that of the Mediterranean with its diverse cultures and cuisines. We reserved a table for five on a Monday at 12:30. We arrived on time and were seated right away. The ambiance was very nice and very open and not crowded. There was a view of the Ferry Building. The menu was Mediterranean based and offered enough of a variety. The server took our order for drinks and starters. We ordered wine, beer, and iced tea. Our starter was a Mediterranean spread consisting of three different dips and flat bread which was nice but we could have used a little more flatbread. Our table ordered a burger, two different pizzas, salad with salmon, and a Berkshire pork loin with charred peaches. I think everyone was satisfied with the dishes but the pork loin was not really served as an entree. It was sliced really thin and almost seemed cooked rare and spread around the plate with the pieces of peaches(which were not charred) and peach juices. The pork was salty so the texture and flavors didn’t meld very well. I don’t know how that dish made the menu for entree. The service was not attentive and we never were asked how our dishes were and never asked if we wanted more drinks or refills of our iced tea. And it took us to call out to get our bill. It was not a great experience for the price so the value was very low. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you sat at the bar since the bartender never left her post.

Service staff were nice enough, but needs some improvement; not a busy time Friday lunchtime - two of us with a hot side dish had to wait minutes for third person’s meal to be served (salad!) and fries were cool by then. Staff never checked if we needed anything after food was served (like a napkin I had to get for myself) such as ketchup for fries, more iced tea, etc. I’ll give another chance as food was good and it is a lovely outdoor spot on a nice day.

Wonderful experience. Sat outside with a view of the Bay Bridge, noise level was low, and the food was terrific - salad with salmon.

Stone fruit salad was fresh and delicious. So was the mezze platter and the mocktails.

Beautiful patio seating, server was so thoughtful to bring an umbrella over as the sun came overhead. We split the paella and a pizza, and they were delicious!

I returned to this restaurant as I enjoyed their menu previously. Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding. I made a reservation online thinking we could be served at 3:30, we arrived early had a drink at bar, bartender confirmed that servers didn’t get there till 3:30. As a result, he said we’d have to wait a bit to order. I didn’t understand that a bit meant 5:00-that was bit much especially as we invited a friend to join us. We ordered an appetizer and then after 15 min or so we said we were ready to order. Waitress was aghast as she said we’d couldn’t order till 5. We were in shock, sorry your online is not clear on that-I was very polite when I told her we there for dinner, in particular got the paella. She seemed very uncomfortable and said she’d get manager. We waited, decided we’d order the bar bites as we weren’t editing till 5. I was extremely disappointed, ready to order, waitress came back and said the chef would make it happen. I said that was very nice, they did and we left after our meal. We NEVER did see the manager in spite of assurances that he/she would see us before we left.

Very good Mediterranean inspired restaurant with a decor and atmosphere suited both for groups or an intimate meal. The service was excellent and quick for ordering but making it a point we could take at the time we wanted at our table. Great location in Embarcadero 4 for both view and connecting with friends from other parts of the area. They validate parking at the center garages.

Our waitress up sold us to a horrific degree. She asked if we wanted to add protein to a $17 salad - we added chicken. And when the bill came I saw the chicken added $31 to the price! When our pita ran out for our appetizer, she asked us if we would like more. Which we gladly said yes to and then she charged us an extra $3 for that pita. It felt like she was trying to pad the bill to raise her tip. I was horrified and will not return.
