Seiya Ratings and Reviews
We came here and got a variety of things, like seaweed salad, miso soup, an assortment of sashimi, and 2 rolls. Also got a sampler of sake and a coooooold Asahi for me. The Kobe beef roll was really something different and we both loved it - could've easily eaten 2 rolls each! The spider roll was also very good. Delicious sashimi. The service was the best part, as we got good attention from the wait staff to explain the different kinds of sake and sashimi. A bit pricey, but we'd come back.
For Japanese taste no good.
No enough selection in the menu.
Omakace very poor
The Sushi chef wasn’t friendly at all. It’s important to make the clients feel welcome but that’s no the case in this place.
We don’t recommend this restaurant and we’re not coming back again here.
It was a date night with my husband of 30 years but sadly we didn’t enjoy.
First time I go to Seiya for diner... I was asked to confirm the type of table for the reservation, individual table, but was told on arrival that there were no more of those individual table and ended up seating at the bar... ok but not sure what's going on with reservation. Likely overbooking.
Food was ok. I've had better dishes at Seiya.
The really bad point was service, we didn't have a minute without the waitress asking us if we wanted something, to the point where it was very annoying. Another waitress' han just showed up picking plates without asking or even looking.
Fairly disappointed by Seiya this time.
Seiya's menus steps beyond the conventional Japanese sushi and bistro experience. Fortunately most of the dishes work. We order a wide variety of appetizers to get a broad sampling of the kitchen's capability. With the exception of the Kushiage Trio, which was just average, everything else we sampled (Hamachi Carpaccio, Fish Tacos, Agedashi Tofu, Sashimi Salad, and Great Balls of Fire) was excellent. Service was attentive, without being intrusive, and our waitress paced out the dishes just right. Overall a good experience and we'd go back.
Seiya has enough classic Sushi options mixed with their innovative cuisine to sate the broad set of tastes and appetites. Classic nigiri, got that. A few common Americanized rolls? Yup. Seafood Cigar or Risotto? What - amazing! Great mix of flavors from nuanced to intense. Price is a typical trendy Bay Area Peninsula restaurant, but it's worth every penny.
I don't live in the San Carlos area, but discovered Seiya at lunch a few months ago. Great neighborhood gem...excellent sushi, amazing soba noodle salad. I would drive from SF to have lunch or dinner here. Courteous service, nice ambiance, fresh seafood and ingredients.
I believe there is only one sushi chef so it takes a long time for food to come because I was told that there's an omakase order ahead of us. We ordered a California roll, & 14 pieces of nigiri. It took half an hour for 12 pieces of nigiri, and another 20mins before the last 2 pieces of nigiri to come.
Seiya is a great Japanese restaurant with authenticity of good fresh sashimi, as well as creativity with it fusion dishes. Food was delicious, server was friendly, it was quiet to be able to carry conversation, and overall a nice change of pace from where we usually go. The only down side was that some of the dishes were sold out. Otherwise, I highly recommend Seiya to others.
We love this restaurant but for some reason this visit was a bit off. My dining partner ordered the Classic Sashimi dish and was told it would take a really long time and did he want to order a starter. He said no, and then the sashimi showed up very quickly. I really hope the starter question wasn't asked so that we would spend more.
