We were visited our kids in Sausalito. Booked Sausalito Seahorse. Looked fun and casual. Received confirmation from Open Table. Reservation was for 7:00 pm and we arrived at 7:00 pm. Not only did they not have our reservation, but the hostess, who barely spoke English, told us that we would have to pay $15 a head cover charge because of the music. The drummer was practicing the drums as we walked in and I saw a huge headache coming which would have cost me $60!! This place is in the "houseboat community" which should have been a tipoff. Anyway, we said thanks but no thanks and promptly left for another restaurant in downtown Sausalito. If you like loud music, an unexpected cover charge and a non-existent reservation, this is the place for you.
We had a reservation for dinner for 7:30. We arrived at 7:30 and were told by the hostess that we needed to pay a $30.00 cover charge because there was live music. The place was nearly empty and we needed to pay $30.00 just to get in and eat! Seriously? We had an Open Table reservation.! We weren’t there to listen to the music. Clearly we were there to eat. We left and went to Seafood Peddler. Spent $200.00 on an excellent meal and wine. We won’t make the mistake of going to Sausalito Seahorse again. It would have been our first time and despite mediocre reviews we had decided to give it a try. Like I said, we will not go back.
We went there for New Years Eve. It was a really fun night, lots of people and a band that played good dance music. The food had good flavor but the temperature was off on most dishes, everything was lukewarm. Otherwise a fun NYE
Seahorse is a terrific spot! Great authentic Italian food cooked and served by actual Italians! One of the few authentic spots left in the Bay Area that cares about supporting culture, the arts, Bohemianism and all that our beautiful bioregion once stood for.
First time here. Clearly a neighborhood find and the food and service were fantastic. Would definitely come back. Very casual atmosphere.
Great, funky place to hear some live jazz. Noel Jewkes should be recognized as a national treasure.
I'd been to Seahorse before but not to eat. Shared four different appetizers, one of which, mussels in black pepper, most likely had MSG, and I suffered for it. The other mussel recipe, white wine with garlic, was delicious and didn't affect me. Also ordered the grilled asparagus and the crostini with porcini mushrooms, both very good. Wines were good and reasonably priced. The nebbiolo was good and the Primitivo very good.
Regrettably the use of MSG in the mussels with black pepper really affected me, otherwise I'd have ranked my visit with four stars instead of two.
I so wanted to love this restaurant- we booked a table for 10 for a family birthday tonight. No record of our reservation, super slow service and possibly the worst meal I have eaten in years. The music was nice, decor is fun, the minimal staff is friendly, but I sure wish they had a full bar so that I could have mitigated the pain of the meal. Really bad
Food was good and consistent as usual. I usually enjoy the live bands, but the particular band that evening was playing 'original rock' quite loudly, making it difficult to enjoy the overall ambience.
Classic establishment with great food and music. My wife and I went for Valentine's day and had a wonderful time.
We went here for Valentine's day dinner. They had a band for some great live music, good food, and a lovely atmosphere for the occasion!
Great night with Rita Abrams "Showstoppers"! The food, the show and music were all great!
I have dined at the Seahorse several times this last month. Lunch, early dinner, later dinner. Each time the food was outstanding as are the staff and the owner is delightful. The atmosphere is quiet enough to have a conversation before the entertainment begins and the entertainment is eclectic and fun, even when there are no real headliners. Everyone that I have brought to the Seahorse wants to come back. My sister is begging me to go and so I will be going again soon. Can't wait!
We had a reservation for a large number of people. They told us to sit at a table in the back and did not give us menus until 10 minutes after sitting. Another group came in and directly up to us saying we had to move because they had a reservation.
We didnt understand because we had been told to sit there and ALSO had a reservation for a LARGER group. The waiter after NOT EVEN BOTHERING to give us a menu came up telling us we had to move because another group had a reservation and acted like he was confused when multiple members of our party stated we ALSO had a reservation.
So then after being told we had to move the staff didnt even help us move the appetizers we had to buy at the bar.........we were there a total of 1.5 hours on an almost empty night. We were asked once if we wanted food and never saw the server again. Had to go up to the bar to pay. Mind you again, we were told to move after being directed to seats with a reservation when there was next to no one else in the restaurant.
We were there for a business meeting with nurses. Congratulations, you were extremely rude and disrespectful to a group of nurses. Needless to say we will not be coming back nor will we recommend this restaurant to any of our colleagues.
Cancelled our reservation even though we were there.
We went for the food and the convenient location and discovered MUSIC!
The piano was being played as we arrived and the jazz ensemble was about to begin when we had to leave. But we had to leave,
Great food and service, and a place we'll want to go to again!!
The jazz was smooth as were the drinks. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was extremely pleasant, attentive and efficient.
Great food and music
Dinner was good, waiter very energetic and made sure everything was fine. After dinner, went to parking lot not 25 yards away and found my car had been broken into and backpack taken. Do not leave anything in sight of a window!
Based on several visits during its first months of operation, the entertainment was great but the food was disappointing. It's been over a year and we just went back -for some live music- and had a very nice dining experience. Excellent appetizers and a very well priced Italian red. We hope this wasn't a fluke and will go back and give the fresh fish a try.
We arrived a few minutes late, but our friends arrived on time and were told that there was no reservation for us, so they left. When I arrived I tried to check in with someone, but nobody understood what Open Table is. There was no manager on duty. The food was less than ok, the polenta was not edible, and the service was ok. The only good part was the really good band.
We had a whole fish for two that was cooked to perfection. Our waiter was in his first week. Very nice, but service was slow between courses. We will dine here again and bring friends.
