Sampan, an intimate new restaurant located in Center City, Philadelphia, serves a fun menu of modern Asian small plates, ideal for mixing, matching and sharing. Designed by Philadelphia’s Sparks Design and Urban Space Development, Sampan offers seating for up to 120 guests in a warm, comfortable setting. The restaurant features reclaimed timber, distressed metals and a rustic, natural aesthetic anchored by a custom-crafted, color washed painting that illuminates the room and lends a soft, glowing ambiance to the cozy space.

Sampan was designed with entertaining in mind. Two identical dining rooms flank a central bar to allow for a total of 120 guests to occupy both dining rooms or a cocktail reception in excess of 150. The outdoor Graffiti Bar can host up to 75 additional guests with the same menus offered.

Hors d' oeuvres packages start at $15 per person per hour and dinner packages start at $40 per person. Open bar packages start at $25 per person for the first two hours and $7 for each additional hour should you be looking to entertain. Bar packages must be combined with either an hors d' oeuvres package or a dinner package and are not offered on their own.

Sampan is the perfect location for entertaining. Two identical dining rooms flank a central bar for a welcoming feeling with great energy. The restaurant can seat up to 120 for a sit down dinner or in excess of 150 for a social gathering. The outdoor Graffiti Bar can host an additional 75 and is fully heated and open 10 months out of the year. Our event coordinator will work with you personally and all menus are fully customizable.

The food was excellent. Restaurant was noisy and we were seated next to kitchen which I wasn't happy about but overall great experience and would come back.

Here we are, Valentines 2018 and we're at our favorite place, Sampan. I made a small request to the hostess Kenzie, hope I spelled it write, asking to sit at the corner table by the window, I mentioned we had gotten engaged at that table 2 years ago. Without any hesitation she said no problem and were sat there right away. Proving she was the utmost professional, she made a mention to our server, Kaihly what I told her and she came to the table with complimentary champagne. Same thing happened last year when we returned for our first Valentines as a married couple. But enough with the accolades, could keep going on, let's talk about the amazing food. Each visit we have the Chef Tasting menu, and it never disappoints.

The food is ridiculously amazing!!! Each course was better than the one before. From the Pork Belly Buns to the Filet Mignon, which BTW, was the best filet ive ever had. Truth be told I work in a high end steakhouse and wish we cooked our steaks as well as these were cooked. They cut like butter!!

Like I said to my wife, I've never repeatedly eaten at the same restaurant, and have been "Wow'd" each and every time. I hope Sampan ( and Kaihly) will be there for a long time to come, so we can return each and every time we have an occasion to celebrate!!!

We arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation and had to wait a half hour by the front door for our table. It was obviously extremely busy. management apologized and told us the table had been there for over three hours and they were going to ask them to re locate if they were done eating. We finally sat and had our order taken at 9:30 pm , we opted for the seven course tasting menu. By 9:54 we were completely done our meal and being asked what we wanted for dessert. After not seeing my friends for several months and then being totally rushed through dinner after waiting for so long, this was a total let down. My water was never re filled, my coffee came with no spoon or sugar and then an attitude when we asked , as if an inconvenience. It was a night we were very much looking forward to and we just did not enjoy ourselves. Food was delicious, portions were ridiculously small, filet didn't even have two slices for each of us. There was five extremely small slices for 3 people ....Just a very unexpected experience. Would not return or recommend

We had a 7 pm reservation for 8 people. Our table was not ready upon arrival and we stood in the fairly crowded bar area. We were finally seated close to 7:30 which caused a bit of anxiety as we were going to a 9 pm show. Once seated however, the service was very good. To save time in making choices we decided to go with the tasting menu. Once that was decided, the food come out very fast and was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the pork bao bun, the swordfish satay and the brussel sprouts. The mini ice cream cones, especially the chocolate orange, were delicious. There was one small error in that we made our server aware of my husband's avocado allergy but the tuna rice cracker was served with the avocado. This was quickly remedied with a new serving of the same minus the avocado. She also threw in an extra dish that was not part of our tasting menu. The food was plentiful and the leftovers packed up for our hungry college student.

It was way overpriced for what they give you, and we had dinner reservations at 6PM booked a week ahead, but we couldn't be seated until 10 minutes later, which normally wouldn't be a big deal, but the food was not worth the wait and huge crowd at all.

For example, the kimchi fried rice-- it was more like warmed rice mixed with kimchi juice, shrimp, and one tiny piece of actual kimchi. The rice didn't even have the "fried, crispy" texture fried rice should have, so it literally just felt like warmed soft rice, not fried rice.

We also ordered the general tso soup dumpling, and the dough was almost raw. You could very easily pinch off a chunk of dough and roll it into a ball because it was so dang soft and undercooked. The inside did not really contain much "soup" either. It was just mushy and there wasn't really much flavor, which was hard to accept considering they called it "general tso".

My boyfriend and I really had high hopes cause it always seemed nice from the outside, and we genuinely wanted to like it. So I'm really sad and reluctant to admit that we had such a largely disappointing experience. We felt bad especially towards the end because, while it wasn't the waitress's fault, the last thing we ordered never came. My boyfriend and I would never come back here ever. (If it's any context at all, I'm Korean-American and my boyfriend is Irish).

They gave us a good seat away from the madness. It feels stuffy when you first walk in but once we were seated there were no problems. Christina (our waitress) was great and very attentive.

We went there for a Valentine’s Day date for the first time. We ordered the Chefs tasting and because we didn’t know much of any of the food on the menu we took our waiters advice on what to order. He did not steer us wrong. Every dish was amazing!

Sampan was outstanding. We were a little late to be seated but the manager immediately came and addressed us. Once we sat down the service was great and the food...well beat Asian food I have had. Recommend if you are looking for a nice dinner with your spouse or significant other or with a group of friends for an occasion, make a reservation and go enjoy!
