Great place with great food - lots of variety with ability to share.
Sunday night dinner fate
The food was absolutely amazing, as usual. However, I was disappointed by the service. I was especially disappointed at how quickly our food came out. We ordered the tasting menu, and all seven plates came out in a ten minute time span. It was way too fast and we felt we had to rush through our meal. I asked for the food to come out at a slower pace, but this did not happen. I love the food, so I will be back, but I will remember to specify at the beginning to pace the food. When a meal is as expensive as this, I should never feel rushed. I also ordered a second drink, but never received it. Our server shorted herself on the bill by not being more attentive, because we would have ordered more drinks. Food was good, but disappointed with my overall experience
Sampan was an excellent restaurant. We ordered 5-7 small plates, each of which was delicious. Having such an array of amazing flavors was a delight.
The waitress seemed annoyed and impatient. Hospitality is probably not the career for her.
Loved the food! Definitely recommend the chef’s tasting! Excellent sake!
Food was excellent. Table was very tight and hard to get out of bench seating without knocking into tables next to you. Server was helpful and attentive. Hostess was strict about seating and told another patron they had to leave their table by a certain time because of another reservation. We will definitely go back bc all food we had was phenomenal but I suggest a party of 4 or fewer for this spot.
Very good; however the white wine was not cold enough
Sampan was fantastic! The food was delicious (we got the brussels sprouts, shrimp pad thai, korean short ribs, and sea bass), and it all came out super fast! My only complaint is that the lighting is there is super dim, so it could be turned up a notch. I'm definitely looking forward to going back and trying more things on the menu!
Haven’t been in two years and it’s still as great as the last time. Please don’t change!
The restaurant was extremely busy on a Thursday evening and very noisy. Despite that, service was good & we were seated in a corner so we could at least hear each other.
The spring rolls were good, but the swordfish kebabs were even better. The Peking duck was served with an excellent sauce. The short rib fried rice had a good nutty taste, but was a little dry. Overall, four plates were sufficient opposed to the six that were suggested. I would suggest they select a more premium New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for their menu & serve it colder.
Overall, the food was good and served up quickly despite the crowds and overwhelming noise.
The food is wonderfully prepared and tasty. Try the crunchy rock shrimp. The service is attentive and friendly. Great for business or a date.
Sampan had great food and super friendly staff. Booked a reservation for a birthday celebration, got seated at the kitchen bar which was a really special experience. Food came out in a timely manner, staff was so nice and accommodating for birthday-specific requests. Happy hour menu is a great deal.
Food and service was great. Only issue is tables were so close together you feel like you are dining with the neighboring table.
We had a larger party and they were wonderful about accommodating up. Everything we so good that even the picky eaters ate everything that came to the table
I have been to Sampan on various occasions since they have opened and the menu has changed a few times but was still great. This last time though I was highly disappointed with how the menu had changed. The portion sizes dropped drastically for meals but yet the prices of the items stayed the same. I orded the fried chicken which normally comes out like a half chicken with extras. This time however it was small chicken nugget like things of about 5 pieces. My date ordered the Lobster dish. That dish was so small and pathetic that it was laughable. It came out with just a Claw on a bed of noodles. Just a claw!! XIX Has a very comparable menu for the same price and I tend to bounce between the two. However this time I dont see myself visiting again for some time. Absolutely terrible redesign. I hope that they change their menu again and it puts its customers back in mind.
As usual didn't disappoint!! Favorite spot and go to when I have friends visiting from out of town.
Although we had to wait a little while past our reservation time, it is worth it.
Food is fantastic and great service. I highly recommend the ceviche, rock shrimp and potstickers for small plates. The short rib was soft and melt in your mouth. You can’t go wrong with broccoli or Brussel sprouts for veggies.
Usually the kimchi fried rice is one of my favorite, today it was not the best.
Great happy hour!! Fun for groups to order a bunch of small plates to share! Must try the cheesesteak bao, the shrimp spring rolls, pork bao buns and kimchee rice!
Food very good- lots of vegetarian options. Great scallops. Noise was horrendous, and they were playing some obnoxious techno-pop crap. Guess it's for young people.
Great culinary experience! Tasting menu was a great choice to be able to enjoy so many of the incredible menu options!
Food was amazing! Highly recommend the Pork Buns, Sea Bass, Chicken Stir Fry.
Loud and a little pricey but good.
LOVE this place! The food is awesome and always on point.
While the food is good at the restaurant and our service was excellent we will never go back due to the deafening noise level. They play very loud music which requires diners to literally yell at each other to be heard. It was a painful experience for our party of 6 as we had to endure the screaming men at the large table seated near us and others had to endure our loud voices simply to be heard. At our small table. Overall this atmosphere ruined the dining experience. Open Table needs to reconsider their noise level descriptions as energetic is not an accurate description of a high noise level in a restaurant.
Amber is one of the best waitresses in the city. This was truly an amazing dining experience. The food was outstanding and the Peking Duck,Chilean Sea Bass and Shrimp fried rice with egg were only some of the standouts.
the chefs are amazing! food is delicious and the wait is short once you get seated.
A very nice place; Chinese food adapted to modern taste. Recommended. Be sure to reserve well in advance.
Ah, I love it here! I love the idea of small plates, because I hate committing to one dish. Everything we had was wonderful. The beef short rib was a little dry, but we have gotten before and it was perfect! I've done the tasting menu twice and order randomly once. I don't think I will do that tasting menu again. Two words, BAO BUNS <3
I’ve been to Sampan many times and love it. Some of my favs are: General Tso’s soup dumplings, Peking Duck bao buns, kimchi fried rice, Brussel sprouts, ... the list goes on.
Sampan never disappoints, not surprising since it is one of the best happy hours in the City. Went for a birthday dinner with a bunch of friends. Most of the menu is like tapas style but there are good sized entrees as well. The food was flavorful and brought out hot. The portions are appropriate for their size and the pricing for appetizer/entree was very affordable, especially when shared. The quality of the service was phenomenal. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. It was the first time I went for my annual birthday celebration, but am seriously thinking about making this a tradition.
The host station was complete chaos. My reservation was for 9 pm. At 9 they told me it would be 10-15 minutes. At 9:20 they said my table was being set and it would only be another minute. Several people that arrived after me were sat before me. At 9:30 I gave up and left.
Beware: they don’t honor reservations.
Food was sent out in a bizarre order (entrees before appetizers). Sat us outside despite a reservation. Food was average.
Great ambience and food. Super busy, if you make reservations, the entire party must be present in order to be seated.
Food was great as usual, but the service was disappointing. We wanted to order more food but our server was nowhere to be found. After waiting for a while we chose to close out and go somewhere else. Not sure if we'll be back to be honest.
We got there at 9:15. We had a 10:15 res but the hostess told us she could get us seated by 9:45. We followed up with her 3 times and every time she told us it wouldn't be much longer. We didn't get seated until 10:30 which was past our original reservation even and 45 minutes after she told us we would be seated. We had no problem waiting for our reservation time but she was misleading with her timing.
We waited 45 minutes to be seated tonight and it was honestly an awful experience. Another group who was 25 minutes late for their reservation were seated before us even though we were 10 minutes early for ours. After 35 minutes the manager promised us free appetizers for our wait but we received nothing. If we hadn’t been told that we were being compensated we wouldn’t have thought anything of it but it made an already annoying situation worse. Very disappointing. I’ll stick to happy hour.
Had an open table reservation and still had to wait an hour for a table. They did comp two apps, very nice of them
We waited thirty minutes for our table and they gave us two free small plates. You decide if two edamame dumplings is worth that kinda crap.
Had a reservation at 8:45 and didn’t get a seat until 10. The host apologized and said she will bring out a complimentary appetizer to make up for it. But it never came. Poor service all night.
The drinks were great and so was everything else we ordered!
