Love going back to Sammy's...one of my favorites. The food is always excellent and Val & Renee make it so much fun!
Highly recommend Sammy's. Love the atmosphere and the food is always delicious. Love the Filet Vivi. We always get a salad to take home for the next day. Love the homemade desserts from Renee. Fabulous all around!!
We've eaten at Sammy's many times, but this was our first less-than-relaxing experience. Both the host and our server told us we needed to order "right away" since we were going to a show... but we weren't seated until almost 20 minutes after our reservation time. We, and many other reservation holders, had to wait in a line so long it spilled out onto the sidewalk, making everyone late even if they'd arrived on time.
Our burrata appetizer arrived atop arugula that had been absolutely drenched in balsamic vinegar. Yuck. We had to send it back as I cannot abide anything sweet that isn't a dessert, ESPECIALLY balsamic vinegar, which overpowers everything else on the plate. The BV wasn't mentioned on the menu or I'd have asked that it be left off in the first place. The replacement dish was fabulous - subtle, creamy cheese, peppery arugula, and very good quality olive oil. Our pasta entrees were also excellent, but I could only eat half of mine as the upstairs dining room was so hot that I got stomach cramps during the meal. Even my husband noticed the heat and he's not especially sensitive to temperatures. As there was no one around to ask that the heat be turned down - we weren't even asked how our entrees were once we'd started on them - we didn't have that option. If the guests feel the heat to such an extent, the staff must be miserable, so we really felt bad for them. As it turned out, we had plenty of time for dessert (is that why we were told to rush when ordering?) which we didn't want, although I did order an espresso.
We'll be back at some point, but not before a show.
Always the best! a real favorite every time we go to a show.
Good food, good service
As always great
We always enjoy our evenings at Sammy's. The food is excellent and the service is excellent too. The staff always make us feel very welcome. Overall we enjoyed our evening at Sammy's. Well Done.
Never had a bad meal or a bad experience here. It's become our "go to" place. We love it.
Excellent all the way, initial service was a little slow but didn't matter.
Love the friendly ambience at Sammy’s, there are good food choices and an opportunity to order a course or two, not necessarily every course, and be satisfied.
Love this place. Great menu, friendly but not overbearing staff. Greeted at the door and promptly taken to a nice table. Reservations thru Open Table, as website is always down and no one answers the phone; my only complaint. Free parking in a small lot across the street EXCEPT when there's $8 valet on weekends. Food was delicious (ravioli w/brown butter). Reasonable wine list too. A pleasant evening in a relaxed but very professional atmosphere.
Food was awesome!
Service was great
Very warm and friendly restaurant
Only negative was our food was served luke warm
The salad and the cannoli were the best
We went to Sammys before a show. Our reservations were for 530pm. We were running a few minutes late and when we called to update and ensure we would be there, the gentlemen on the phone literally said "Its a show night, everyone is in traffic, please hurry up or we will release your table." Wow, we were on Charles St, literally 2 blocks from the restaurant. When we arrived at 540, he greeted us much differently and was more pleasant. Perhaps he was having an off night. It was busy, but its always busy at Sammys on a show night.
They do a good job at identifying who are the show folks and who are not. Service felt a little rushed but we expect that, so if its your first time there and you booked a pre show dinner, expect the wait staff to try and move you along. They really do a good job at getting you out the door in time to walk to the venue.
Food was amazing as always. We went with the Burrata to start and it was delightful.
I've never been to Sammys on a non show night, Id love to go back and not rush. With that said, you still get a great experience, great food and its a decent value for the area.
A had high expectations but this place did not quite live up to them. All was okay, but I would not go out of my way to eat here again. The two people that I dined with enjoyed their meals but we were all in agreement that the ambience and service left something to be desired. As for me, I was not thrilled with my entree or the service.
The service and food were excellent. We've been here a few times, but this was the best. It has a fun atmosphere and the server was very helpful in suggesting food.
Always a great experience. Always go when I am in Baltimore.
The place was great as always but unfortunately we got stuck with a server who is not nearly as good as the food. I am not sure why they keep him as an employee
Sammy's is our go-to for birthdays and our anniversary, we drive up from Silver Spring smiling every time.
Food was great as usual. Most of my group were first timers and they were pleased.
Great food, great service! A really enjoyable experience!
We went for dinner before the symphony. Had never been there before. The food was amazing. The service was great, the waiters helped each other family style. Everyone pitches in on your table. It’s cozy and warm, and we just loved it!
Not as good as usual.
Orange Italian mule was a delicious drink to start. My mom and sister both enjoyed their filets while I loved the mushroom risotto and the chicken Marsala.
Service was awesome and meal could not have been better! The downstairs was charming but a little loud. I would definitely go back!!
The service and food were quite fantastic.
Another great meal at Sammy's. Had the burrata appetizer and it was delicious. Lamb Osso Bucco special was available on our visit and I didn't need a menu after hearing that. Served over mushroom risotto, the osso bucco is to die for.
Family get together with family we hadn’t seen in a long time!
Upon arrival, we were advised by our server that the restaurant was very busy and we should order immediately to avoid any delays. We did so and munched on bread while waiting for our appetizer to arrive. A half hour later it arrived and was quite good. After an hour we began to ask our server when our mains would arrive. The kitchen was slammed and everyone was waiting for their food. After another ten minutes I asked our server to bring the check and pack our food to go as we no longer had time to eat in the restaurant.
Another ten minutes passed before we got our food to go and paid. On our way out the manager asked how things were and II told him that things were awful and it was inexcusable that they didn’t anticipate a full house and ramp up the kitchen accordingly. He shrugged his shoulders and smiled as if to say, “Too bad”. We will ever eat there again and we will share our terrible experience with many others. The restaurant business is a very competitive one and there are many options other than the place.
The restaurant totally over booked on a Tuesday night when there were performances at the Meyerhoff and Lyric theaters.
We ended up walking out without eating anything because the food never came out. We had a 6:15 pm reservation and had to leave a 7:45 for an 8 pm performance. This is unacceptable.
The restaurant should have EITHER capped reservations or offered a limited selection menu for such a busy night. Hate to say it, but we won’t be coming back for a long time, if ever.
We waited 1 hour 15 minutes to get our meal. Not acceptable. We were attending a scheduled event at the Meyerhoff and came close to losing our reserved seats due to the delay in getting our food. Once served we had 5 minutes to eat. Compensated with a free slice of delicious cake but this too had to be doggie bagged. The restaurant needs to plan better on event nights.
They serve a great combined family meal where you can choose two apps, two entrees, two desserts and it comes with salad which is also delicious.
Went to Sammy's on a busy Saturday night and they did not disappoint at all! Waitress was attentive, food was amazing. We were served family style for the salad and appetizers which allowed everyone to taste many things. Ordered dinners for everyone, chicken, pasta and filet. All very yummy. The atmosphere is just perfect for a fun night out!
Ambiance and service was excellent! My meal was good, but not great. I wasn't aware that they would only be serving the "Pre-Show" menu and some items that I was interested in were not available. I would like to try Sammy's another time when the full-dinner menu is available.
Fantastic dining experience... True Authentic Italian Cuisine.
My friend and I ate at Sammy's before a show at the BSO. The host admitted to us that the restaurant was overbooked and asked us if we minded sitting at the bar. Since it was just 2 of us we said sure. He was thrilled. We got a hug and a free martini! The food was just as good as the atmosphere. I couldn't decide between the chicken piccata or the pasta bolognese. The bartender suggested I get the chicken piccata because it comes with a side of pasta so I was able to have both and both were excellent. My friend had the pasta carbonara and she said hers was fabulous as well. I will definitely return.
Excellent service, excellent food. Overall, we always have a very enjoyable evening at Sammy’s. I would highly recommend Sammy’s for an enjoyable evening.
Consistently good service and food. Good choice for before theater or "just because".
Better than little Italy!
Good food and service
