Had three shared plates: Brussels sprouts, noodles and salad. All were good with noodles and Brussels outstanding.
Limited wines by glass.
Shared long tables in some parts of room.
Noise level is very loud, so not an intimate place. But very lively and really good food. Love that it’s next door to Granada and they take reservations!
I’ll be back.
Great food and just fantastic service.
The food is always impeccably prepared and delicious! But the service was very slow (our server often didn't check on us for long stretches, making our dining experience over 3 hours!) and there was a side door open that let in very cold air so 3 of the people in our party were cold the whole time.
Sama Sama was super super. Food was unusual and excellent. Service was helpful and allowed us to enjoy the different dishes without feeling rushed in the least bit.
The food was OK, way too expensive for what you get. The server from Brazil was amazing! And so was the atmosphere
Share plates spicy and sweet. Upscale drinks.
Been there before. Love the unique food.
The food was pretty tasty and our server was friendly and attentive. We had a rough start with our table not being ready and a lot of confusion about where to seat us. We ordered dishes to share (chicken wings, ribs, broccolini tofu stir fry, crispy rice salad) -- flavorful, but too heavy as many dishes were fried. The restaurant needs to balance out the heavier foods by adding a simple rice side or refreshing, light salad to accompany the items.
It was great! Amazing food!
The food was good, sauces were fantastic. Favorites were the Brussels sprouts and the ribs. But there was a HUGE lag between dishes, and we had to remind our waitress of the items still to come out. There was no silverware on our table, we had to ask for it and one of our party didn’t have a glass for the first 30minutes. For a $200 bill for 5 people didn’t feel we got our money’s worth. Plus it was extremely loud!! At times we couldn’t hear the person talking even when they were sitting right beside us. Won’t return.
Great food, but extremely loud. Horrible service, good bar atmosphere
Food was really tasty, the Branzino fish was excellent ( and spicy which we like ), but took awhile to come, so be aware of that. The service was just ok, but they were pretty busy, as it was a Saturday night.
My husband and I tried Sama Sama for a date night recently. We both felt that the cocktails and food were excellent, but the service was below average. We would be willing to give it another try because the food and drinks were so delicious. We also felt that it was a good value.
Sama Sama is one of my favorite date night asian fusion dinner spots in Santa Barbara (the only one)? The type of place that you wish you had 10 stomachs due to the delicious variety of their menu. It is very conveniently located downtown Santa Barbara on state st.
One of my go-to dishes is the hot wing appetizer- super fresh crispy, juicy mouth watering wings. Literally the best wings I have ever had, all my staff dinners are now here, not solely because of the wings but partially :)
We were on an appetizer hype tonight so we also got the papaya salad and paan seared octopus. The papaya was incredibly spicy, the flavors were muddled together to perfection- it was so refreshing. The octopus was cooked incredibly well- crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Lastly, I ordered the Chinese Sausage Fried Rice which I probably should've saved for another visit. We were already stuffed after the appetizers! It was piping hot, the Sausage was perfectly cooked, I was eating it as if I hadn't eaten in days. The flavor was rich, creamy, flavorful and crunchy in the best ways.
Serive is warm, ultra-attentive and prompt with bringing out our meals. (Everything comes out the PERFECT temperature) I'm sure at some point.
Thank you Sama Sama for a wonderful visit, as usual. This review was long overdue and am so happy my fellow yelpers see my yummy perspective of this place! See you tonight!!!
The food is always stellar. We had the jidori wings, which were scrumptious and a must have always, Brussels sprouts, which were so lovely and umami and sweet and sour. Delish! The ribs with steak fries. Ribs were fabulous. Fries were oh so yummy though a bit too oily, and a noodle dish (mi goreng?) which was good- not super special, but was a perfect accompaniment to the other dishes. We are every bite.
Service, which is usually kind of slow, was great. Our waitress was genuine and sweet and took great care of us.
They are a bit lacking in the dessert department, but we were so full it was a blessing.
We loved the brussel sprouts. The kitchen was out of most of the larger dishes but what they had we liked.
An amazing meal and best dinner experience in california! Everything we ordered was unique and delicious; Brussel sprouts octopus and Nasi goreng. Service was very friendly and it was nice not to be rushed through our meal like a lot of other restaurants in LA. Highly recommend for a casual yet sophisticated dinner and delicious cocktails too!
One of the best meals I've had this year. All the flavors were perfect, accessible but authentic. Loved the interior design. Service was friendly and laidback. Not cheap but worth the price.
Was really impressed with what the kitchen at SAMA SAMA turned out. I fell in LOVE absolute and deep, deep LOVE with their Crispy Brussel Sprouts (CBS for short). Who in the world would think to caramelize fish sauce and add dates to brussels sprouts (amongst other things)...you must try this dish if you like sprouts even just a little bit. Highly recommend..great flavors await you at SAMA SAMA Kitchen.
Sama Sama has a great happy hour menu and the service is incredibly friendly and always helpful with menu suggestions. Great local vibe and would highly recommend trying this great little Santa Barbara gem!
Sama Sama has to be one of the most creative restaurants in the SB area, with flavors that don't quit! The Crispy Rice Salad is on my 'to order' list from now on! And Elliott is a great server - he does it all with a fantastic attitude.
Loved sama. The duck salad is amazing. Thanks team sama
I have a great experience every time I am there.
The food is average in taste, menu is limited, prices high for tiny portions, wait staff disengaged, ambiance noisy. i would never go again and recommend people to look elsewhere.
This is probably one of the best foodie restaurants in Santa Barbara with fantastic mixed drinks. Perfect place to eat if you have tickets to a show at The Granada or Arlington Theaters.
I love the cocktails, crispy rice salad, wings, hot chicken bao, and ribs!
Sama Sama is our go to date night spot. The combination of flavors and textures in this Indonesian cuisine is superb. We have had just about every dish on the menu and love all of them! Our favorites are the wings, crispy rice salad, fried rice, Branzini, and octopus. Their drinks are also unique but refreshing.
Everything was amazing! We ordered the Brussels sprouts, chicken wings, bao, and crispy rice salad. Everything was so flavorful and innovative. I will definitely be back!
The wings were some of the best we’ve ever had.
Love, love, love this place. Faboulous food for everyone, old, young, gluten free, dairy free but you need to be a little on the adventurist side. Hope you would bring back the tacos and the basil lemonade soon.
Inside seating is limited, so we sat out on the patio. There were heaters, but we'd bring jackets next time because it was a little cool if you weren't right under the heat. Creative cocktails and interesting small plates to share. The ribs and steak fries were amazing. The brussel sprouts were quite different than what I've had at other places. All the dishes were tasty and incorporated new flavors. We had dinner before a show at the Granada which is just one door down, which was quite convenient. I'd love to go again and try some of the other plates.
The food was good, the service was good, and the experience was good. No complaints. I will revisit...
Great food. Service was great too! Super loud on the patio with a couple large tables celebrating.
Outstanding food and service. Unique and creative culinary experience.
All food was bland and not very interesting. The place is run down. Execution on food was very bad - all lacking flavor.
Amazing service and flavorful food
Always amazing and never disappoints. This is a go to spot and we love it!
We had a great time at Sama Sama on Saturday night! Every dish exuded incredible flavor and the desserts took our meal over the top. Sitting outside on the brick patio was perfect for a summer night especially as we made friends with other guests. Our server Robin was perfect, very attentive, knowledgeable, engaging AND she had a great sense of humor. Cannot wait to go back!
wonderful if you like S.E Asian food, especially Indonesian.
Wonderful if you like "Spicy" food
Every time we have been there the service has been excellent
Would recommend You try it!
This was the perfect choice for introducing our business partners from Spain and China to Santa Barbara
