About Permanently Closed - Salu
This restaurant is permanently closed.
Salú Bistro and Bar is a contemporary European restaurant. Here, guests will find culinary influences from all over Europe. That extends to the interior of the restaurant as well, which takes several decorating cues from places like Italy, France, Spain and Greece. The most striking feature of the dining room is the recessed ceilings with glowing blue lights. These illuminate the dining area with a soft glow, and it looks as if the diners are looking up at the bottom of a pond.
Salú's offers both brunch and dinner. Some of the brunch specialties include French Toast sliders, huevos ranchers and a classic steak and eggs combination. The dinner menu is divided into a few different sections that includes flatbreads, entrées and a special section devoted just to mussels. Mussels are the signature item at Salú and guests can get them with everything from sriracha mayo and garlic butter to a white wine garlic butter sauce.

Really nice brunch choices and we were lucky enough to be able to get an outside table (noise level is off the charts inside)...really nice do it yourself Bloody Mary station for the bottomless drinks from 11-300. Great wait staff and food was very good and nice big portions
Our waiter was so warm and welcoming. He was very attentive as well as accommodating. He even loved how I surprised my friend with a birthday cake and celebrating her home visit since my friend has moved away. Cheers to him, (sorry I can't remember the gentleman's name but he is short with ginger beard!) Very sweet. ; )
I've been wanting to try Salu since I heard about the bottomless mimosas for brunch. The deal can't be beat. While I was hoping some of the tapas would be on the brunch menu, I was still very pleased with the traditional eggs Benedict. Our party of six all enjoyed the food. It was extremely loud, but we had great service and a wonderful meal.
We love Salu based on past experiences with the wonderful tapas menu. We recently wandered in on a Saturday afternoon and discovered their brunch, which was quite fine but a step down from the tapas experience. The unlimited Bloody Mary option at $20 was delightful but did result in an unplanned afternoon nap. So be it. If Eric is your server ask him to lead you through the BM buffet and have him make your drink. He is a master at his craft.
Food was very good but those of us that ordered flatbreads received lukewarm meals at best, cold at worst. The service was horrible. Wait time for our meal was 2 hours and many tables that were seated long after us were served first. The waiter was friendly but had to be flagged down every time we wanted to get another drink. It is also very loud once seating starts filling up. There were seven of us and you could only hear the people seated right next to you & then we felt as if we were almost shouting.
Good, fresh food. My husband had the fried whole sea trout with green curry it was delicious! Sad they took the bacon wrapped dates off the menu-they were the bomb!!! The waitress this visit was hard to flag down when she was present, although I appreciated that she was friendly.
Dinner was great. Caught the tail end of happy hour, so it ended up being pretty cheap. Really too noisy. Something needs to be done to help reduce noise. Service was fairly awful, but he told us about the brunch drink special, so we went back Sunday. Wasn't impressed with brunch food, but they have their flatbreads available at brunch. The $20 bottomless mimosa, pimms cup, Bloody Mary special is worth going and not eating brunch items. Mary rocked as our server Sunday, so we'll always ask for her now.
My friend and I came here for brunch on a cold Sunday morning. We had an early brunch, which was perfect since the restaurant quickly became crowded by noon. We ordered drinks, but did not opt for the $20 bottomless mimosas and bloody Marys. My Irish coffee was made a bit strong, but delicious nonetheless and my friend had just one mimosa which was very good as well. Our food was hot and came out fairly quickly. I had a sausage and bell pepper omelet, which came with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were delicious! The omelet was very good also! The portions were good and the price was very fair. Highly recommend giving this place a try for brunch on a Sunday.
Very poor service in terms of honoring the reservation. We were seated an hour and a half after our reservation time. The bartender helped us out with a free round of prosecco after the first hour of waiting. Upon complaining after an hour of waiting to the hostess we were told we had been put at the bottom of the list due to arriving only 10 minutes late. I liked their menu and the server helped us out in the end and got us our food quickly, but it was very poor on the part of the hotess not to notify us that they weren't going to honor the reservation and not notifying us the new wait time.
The Food was very sub-standard. Chicken was very salty and the Prime Rib was extremely tuff. The time frame to deliver the food was excessive as well. It is unfortunate but we would never visit this restaurant again. The manager stopped by and heard our complaints but he never mentioned even comping one of our meals even though we didn't eat very much of it.
While the restaurant is very energetic with a somewhat young crowd on a Friday night, a good time can be had by both large groups or a couple looking for a romantic night out drinking and dining. We sat at the bar and took our time sharing several courses, cocktails, and wine. Everything was wonderful. The ingredients were first rate, from seafood to cured meats to veggies and herbs. The flatbreads are great to share like pizza, but not so filling that you can't try several different things from the menu. Really enjoyed the experience. And while it's not a true Spanish tapas bar, there is a definite European lean to the menu and just a great addition/variation to the New Orleans Cuisine Scene.
The restaurant didn't have a great night - our waitress went home in the middle of service and then there was an accident in the kitchen which caused a major delay in getting our food to the table. I've eaten here before, and I know it's a great place, just not on that night!
