Salt 88 - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We shared a bottle of Ruffino Chianti Classico 2012 DOCG which was excellent. Spouse had the Rainbow Trout with Hazelnut breading with citrus reduction and grilled vegetables which she really enjoyed. I had the 8 oz ribeye filet with sauce robert and asparagus and wasabi gouda mash. The steak was cooked correctly. The mash was cool and the asparagus was loaded with what looked like sea salt. So mine was disappointing. We have eaten here before for lunch ourselves and we brought a large group for lunch as well and there were no issues then. Looks like we will not be frequenting this restaurant for dinners.
The food and service were excellent. We wanted to try something new for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. Prices were reasonable and our server gave wonderful suggestions for drinks, food selection and more. We will be back again even though we will be driving pass other excellent restaurants.
Excellent every time but the food was exceptional this time around. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining and their patio looks out over the eagle run golf course. The bistro lights and music added to the lovely ambience of a perfect summer evening. Take advantage of this great place!
The wait staff was phenomenal and specifically Sylvia was absolutely amazing as our server. She was "spot-on" with her recommendations and unlike many servers was not afraid to make a recommendation from a menu with significant variety. There was not a question about anything on the menu that she couldn't answer.
We choose to eat inside vice the other option of dining outside and looking out over the golf course. The ambiance inside was just so-so. We were at a small table behind the bar about 6 feet from the next table. The tables were very crowded in my personal opinion. We were placed at a corner table which was by the door used to seat diners who were eating outside. As such, there was a constant flow of traffic directly behind our table which became annoying unless you are at dinner to "people watch!"
I had the steak Dubrovnik which was cooked to perfection and accompanied by wasabi potatoes and asparagus. The wasabi potatoes did say "hello" and were on the verge of being too spicy while the asparagus was again perfect! My wife had the buffalo ravioli with 3 meatballs. The meatballs were large but not quite worth the upcharge per meatball ($4.00 each I think). The entrees were a bit pricey ... almost $40 for a 10 oz steak and $28 for the ravioli (with meatball upcharge).
The biggest detractions included the mediocre ambiance, the crowded feeling due the crowded tables, and constant flow of people behind our table. Perhaps if we had chosen the outside option, I would be a bit more pleased.
This was a terrible experience from the get go. The host/owner was very rude from when the first of our party entered the restaurant. When we got seated it took a good fifteen minutes before our server came and started service. I had to ask three times for a high chair for my 18 month old son. Service was terribly slow, only thing that was fast was the guy filling water glasses. After over an hour and only food served was salad and bread appetizer and no food order in sight, even though tables that had sat and ordered after us were being served food I had to leave the restaurant because my son could not wait any longer for his meal, my wife tried to refuse my meal because I was not able to eat it there and I thought it was ridiculous to pay 20 bucks for a pasta dish that I couldn't eat because of the long wait time, she was told that we would have to pay for it anyways. Not a very family friendly environment for a Mother's Day celebration.
Food excellent but took a very long time and was delivered to the table at all different times. By the time the last entry came out the others were almost done eating. Server was very apologetic and said it was her fault but it's unclear what happened. She comp'd the really late entrees and gave some free desserts.
Service was incredibly slow and it took over an hour that get 2 pizzas. We had to flag the waitress down twice to get updates on if the meal was coming. Also worth mentioning that they were not very busy at this time. There were mostly open tables around us.
This was our first time at Salt 88. We arrived ahead of our reservation but was seated right away. All of the staff was friendly. I assume we were waited on by the manager/owner. (He never idientied himself as such). He gave us a rundown on the menu, gave some suggestions. He stopped back throughout our meal to make sure everything was to our liking. Our water glasses were always full. It was busy but not overbearing. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an upscale dining experience surrounded by great service and value.
