Salon by Sucre Ratings and Reviews
On our recent visit to NOLA, this was the only major disappointment of our entire 5 days. On a somewhat positive note, we ordered the fritzels... pricey for 5 sticks with dipping sauce that tasted awful (even the server said she didn't like it at all) BUT.. she brought some butter and we sprinkled some vanilla sugar on them to make them a yummy appetizer. The service was polite but very slow...and we were ignored much of the time because of a big party in a back room. The chicken salad was literally tasteless..my jasmine tea was bitter and when I asked for sugar, I was given the pink, blue and yellow packs (really? No sugar? ) Although the tea was served in a cute little pot, it didn't strain most of the tea leaves. Maybe they wanted me to read my tea leaves at the botton of my cup? We noticed a long line downstairs buying sweet treats..maybe they are wonderful, but don't go for lunch. The food nor service lives up to its reputarion... we highly recommend Brennan's (on Royal) and Praline's (on Frenchman).
Enjoyed a beautiful day having lunch on the balcony.
Food was delicious. Started with French onion soup, the best I've ever had & the crawfish mac n cheese.
For lunch I had the chicken n waffle, it was delicious. My niece had the chicken salad sandwich & she loves.
We also each enjoyed a pot of tea with our lunch.
Our server was excellent & very friendly.
Went there for lunch. Had the fish and chips which were cooked perfectly. It was quite tasty, except I thought the fries had just a touch too much salt but still not bad. I had the dark chocolate gelato downstairs at Sucré itself and it was outrageously delicious. I’ve had good gelato before but this was ridiculous in good way. My wife had the Mac & Cheese which she enjoyed as well as the Cafe au lait gelato. We enjoyed the weather and the view on the balcony which was great but the inside of the restaurant is amazing.
My eggs benedict with mornay sauce and ham was perfection and worth the trip! However, my friends all had food envy. Another friend had the egg sandwich and didn't care for the bun, said it was like a hamburger bun? And didn't care for the potato side (poutine?). My other two friends had the garden salad, with raspberries. Delish and fresh, but the chicken add on less than exciting ... simply luncheon meat, shaped beautifully. We love the ambience, beautiful space, service was great, but food was hit and miss. We give it another try. And love the ease of making reservations on OpenTable.
Awesome! Really good service and really good food. The Chicken and waffles while not traditional is one of the best I have had. The Phantom Macaroon and Bourbon & Rye flight pairing was a dream come true. Two of my favorite things done well-together. The cardamom rose macaroon and black sesame macaroons were memorable. Looking forward to the next tasting flight and an excuse to come back!
Can recommend most of the brunch items, in particular those with eggs, which had an amazing eggy flavor. Loved the beet salad, not impressed with the larger salad, ordered with lox, which was too vinegary, though my friend, who is just as picky as I, liked it. Was strangely disappointed by dessert, especially the fancy waffle, where the waffle did not taste fresh and wasn't warm, the brownie bites, or bits were stale or rock hard enough to break a tooth on, the whipped cream was tasteless, not sweet, and if it had been good, not enough of it. The ice cream was the best part, however, not enough chocolate sauce or syrup. The pastry tray seemed to offer the least appetizing selection from the store, where I should have gone to select dessert. To be fair, the server did offer to replace my dessert, which I chose from the tray, and retracted the cost of the waffle. Server could have checked back for coffee more often, but I appreciate not wanting to seem intrusive when the table is deep in conversation. Space and presentation great; dessert- too expensive to rest on laurels and be displaced by grocery store freezer options and IHOP.
We had a wonderful meal here: the French onion soup was delicious and the crawfish Mac and cheese lived up to its reputation. This is our favorite place to go for dessert, but it was our first time here for a meal. We did several small plates and we enjoyed it. I only wish they had done something for my daughters birthday-we made a note of it with our reservation. With all of the lovely desserts, it would have been nice to have one delivered to the table with a festive birthday touch.
Really good find in the quarter - not your typical Cajun cuisine, although there is a cajun flair to several items. The Mac & Cheese w/crawfish was a fantastic start to the brunch. Benedict dish was good. Chicken Poutine was also good - had always wanted to try it, and was not disappointed. Their take on muffaletta was disappointing - at least the bread was. It was on a thick egg bun. The meats and cheeses (and accompanying fries) were all top notch though.
Bottomless mimosas were good, although a bit pricey ($25) - but most drinks that aren't neon green in the quarter are pricey...
Definitely a place that we'll return to. And the ice creams and other sweet delicacies in the shop downstairs are also great.
My daughters love Sucre, so Salon is the perfect restaurant for our family. The adults enjoy the creative cuisine and our teenagers live for the souffle. The soufflé is the most savory we've ever tried. A few of our favorites on the menu are the beets, charcuterie board, mac and cheese, sack of fries and the fish of the day. We dine at Salon as often as we can get a reservation. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is hip and stylish and the food is delicious! It's a must in NOLA.
Afternoon tea included a great variety of tasty options. The tea itself was outshown by the food. The tea menu was somewhat overpriced compared to other nearby restaurants. A small restaurant and bar upstairs. Intricate truffles and other small delights as well as a gelateria downstairs. Recommend stopping in for a quick scoop in the evenings.
I took my wife here for mother's day. We have been here several times for dinner and it was always good and so was lunch. We did find that we prefer the dinner menu over the lunch menu, but it was still very good. If you can, get a table on the balcony. That is our favorite spot.
We really enjoyed our 'afternoon tea' - the weather was moderate and enabled us to sit outside comfortably. The food was fabulous, with a generous amount. We did not go away hungry and had to have some of our dessert packed for a snack later. Great job! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a little spot of peace, when visiting this fast-paced city.
Such a fine meal in such a hidden little place. We were told by a local to give it a try and she was so right. The upstairs location was quiet and ambiance nice. The roasted vegetable appetizer with roasted eggplant, squash and zucchini with goat cheese was great. My wife's scallops were good with an an unusual combination of flavors including olives. My fish was well prepared and the saffron coconut sauce really brought out the flavors.
The surprise of the evening was the "orb" dessert...try it for your own surprise.
Our waitress , Faye, was fabulous ! She was very attentive to our guests & gave us outstanding service. She also was very helpful on additional questions we had about resources we need in New Orleans. The food was delicious. Sucre is one of my favorite lunch spots. Great cocktails & wine list, too
Sitting outside and dining on the balcony was a great part of this dining experience. Some of the house drinks are ok. I had to send on back because it was not good at all. The food was good. I would not say that the food was an experience to rant and rave about, but it was good. The staff was friendly enough and the entire service didn't take long at all.
We had late morning brunch for two the Sunday morning after Jazz Fest; everything was superb. Ambience is modern and inviting, not trad and buttoned down. Service was friendly and helpful (Faye was our server). The frittata is literally perfect in being rich but not dense, chocolate mousse hits the exact sweet spot of sweet , bitter and salty. I would definitely come back with friends!
Wanted tea service, but they were "sold out"....also, sold out of FRENCH FRIES! The staff was very friendly, and they were the only thing that kept us from leaving. The plates we had to order (instead of tea service) were okay, but not what we planned on. I would like to give them another try for tea, but can't say I would suggest to anyone else, based on this very "OFF" day.
Bright atmosphere during the afternoon. The food is good and brings a lot to the imagination. The pretzel sticks and garganzola cheese was so much fun, as were the entrees of exotic macaroni and cheese and the delightful desserts. The specialty drinks were fun to try, as well. We chose to dress in nice clothes, but didn't HAVE to was also a plus. Fun for all ages. We sat next to a young girl and her mother who we observed having jus as much fun as we were. Kuddos for making it a great place to go, with a nice atmosphere and not having to pay traditional French Quarter prices, especially for how good the food was and how it was presented!
