Since it’s a family old time Italian I thought it was going to be amazing and it was way too poor. Just lots of cream in everything...
Disappointed to learn Sabatino's (one of our favorite reliable "go to" places) is closing. As soon as I heard I made a reservation knowing it would soon be impossible to get in. Unfortunately, it seems the incredibly busy pace is wearing on everyone. The food was not as good as usual, seemed to be missing seasoning and pasta was overcooked and glutenous...we didn't send it back as everything was taking so long (3 hour meal start to finish). The staff was surly as we overheard a server calling another a name, we waited 20 min. for our reserved time and overall it just wasn't the send off of an old friend that we'd hoped for. The ONLY reason I am writing this review is to inform the restaurant as they still have 3 months to make some changes in order to accommodate this incredibly busy period and continue to be a fun time for their customers if they are aware of where they are missing. We wish the Owners and staff all the very best and will miss them for sure!! Thanks for great memories...
Our first time here, but we're going to try to come back again before they close in December!
The veal was delicious, the ambiance was great, the pizza bread was cheesy and the service was excellent.
The owners are retiring and the last night of service is December 23. I'm sad I waited so long to try this traditonal Italian place out. Enjoy retirement!
Unfortunately this wonderful Italian restaurant is closing - last day is December 23, 2018. The food, ambiance, service, are all excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
90 minutes from placing order until food came. Staff was attentive just slow as heck. Took so long we bypassed desert
Went to Sabatinos for my birthday dinner. Excellent food but packed with people since announcing the closing.
A must-go before it closes. This place is iconic and the food is superb - my family is from NY and they thought it was some of the best Italian they’ve ever had. Going to miss this place and all the great memories.
The food is always amazing and the staff is great. Make sure to leave room for dessert. Apple tartlet and baked Alaska were great!!!
Very attentive service. Quality of food was outstanding. Like that this restaurant has small private booths to accommodate 3-4 people.
Food and service are always very good!
Good food and plenty of it. Bread, salad sides. Great old school atmosphere.
This restaurant has the best pork chops as well as pasta with meat sauce. The ambiance is fantastic (old school). They even have white table clothes. The prices are fair and the food is Mama Mia!!
Our 4th time now and I consider myself a regular. I’m new to Chicago. Native of Texas. My favorite Italian food was served at Colichas in Port Arthur or Impastatos in New Orleans. Sabatinos is just as much a favorite now. The brothers have always been serving and come by the table. Food is amazing. Huge portions. My out of town family loved it as I do.
Great restaurant, we love going here for great food and nice patio to sit out in on a nice evening
Today restaurants can be quite costly for a nice meal. However, Sabatino's have managed to keep their prices reasonable without sacrificing superb quality and excellent service. Sabatino’s is a true gem!
Unfortunately, we live so far away that we cannot get here more often but it never changes...still the same great place, great food, reasonable, great service. Enjoyed every minute of it. Our server was prompt and efficient. Musicians came around and asked what we would like to hear. You get a complete meal including complimentary pizza bread. The food was as fabulous as ever. We ordered chicken vesuvio and you get a big platter. For dessert, we had the bananas foster, made tableside, and simply scrumptious. Wish I could get back here more often.
From the time we walked into Sabatino’s we were impressed.
The bartender was personable, our server was great and the food was Excellent!
We will be back soon
We were seated immediately. Wonderful menu selection. We had seven diners. We all ordered something different and everything was delicious
We have dined at Sabatino's many times, usually on a week night. Our last visit was on a Friday.
It was so crowed, extremely noisy, we couldn't wait to get out of the restaurant.
Also, why are the lights dimmed so you can't read the menu.
I don't need to go back any time soon
This is my favorite Italian restaurant. It is family owned and the food never disappoints. It is a great value. All entrees come with soup and salad and a wonderful pizza bread. Angelo and Enzo make their customers feel special. I wish them a great retirement. The restaurant will definitely be missed.
Have gone to Sabatino’s in special occasions many times over the past few years and it has been very good. This time one person had the veal parmigiana and the veal was not a pounded cutlet, but a thick machine processed chunk of veal - tough. Three others had the shrimp and scallop fettuccine which was goo, but the shrimp were beyond their time and were overdone and tough. One other person had the spinach gnocchi which was pretty good. Service was good, noise level was a little loud, valet parking good. Would recommend with slight hesitation.
They never disappoint. Great food and service. Every time.
We had heard that the food at Sabatino's was fabulous so we gathered friends and drove some distance to indulge. The portions are huge, the bread basket is delicious, the service is attentive, and the food had mixed reviews. Those of us with chicken found it to be dry and the Marsala lacked the flavors one expects from this wine and lacked herbs...very disappointing!! The people who ordered pasta were delighted with their meals. I'm sure this restaurant can shore up their issues with the preparation of the chicken and the quality of the wine and add some herbs into the Marsala Chicken.
Old world authentic. I had the veal piccato, which was excellent, and my wife had the garlic shrimp appetizer and very good soup.
My wife and I love this place. We come here for every special occasion.
Great old school Chicago classic dining experience. Don't expect gluten free, clever trendy apps or low-fat - just classic old Chicago big bowls of pasta, nice marble steaks, buttery fish and over flowing martinis. Not a frequent drop in place but a special occassional treat.
It was as allways amazing. The staff goes sbove and betond innensuring your dining experirnce is the best it can possibly be. Thr food from souo ti nuts was delicious. The hosts come by checking in to see if everything was up ro snuff. The bajed Akaska orepared tableside is a treat to behild. Thanks to Suzannefor her fabulous service. But then again at Sabatinos everybody & everything is awesomely excellent orif you prefer excellently awesome.
The restaurant is lovely, they even have a beautiful outdoor eating area. The service is outstanding and they are very accommodating, in particular, when there is a special occasion. Portions are very generous and they have lots of entrees, appetizers, salads, soups and desserts to choose from. It is always a pleasant experience dining there and I have been there 20+ times. Most of my guests go back on their own and recommend it to other friends.
Sabatino's never fails to excel. Our family loves this restaurant for special occasions and everyday enjoyment. The food is always outstanding and an exceptional value.
It was loud Bc these ladies were having a great time. The tables were packed in so our waiter could not hear but he got our order right. The food is great. Old school style.
Food was great as usual but service was an issue. Took quite some time to get our order and also wasn't checked on vmuch. Our server seemed like he had too many tables. He actually put his pad on our table to write down our orders as well. Not the best experience.
Been going here for years. Has always been excellent.
Hard part is getting a reservation cause its so popular..best to plan in advance, its worth the wait.
Amazing food, great service, my favorite restaurant!
We have been going to Sabatino’s for years. It’s always consistent for the food, service and atmosphere, we’ve never had a bad experience.
Family get together was enjoyed by all. Food is great and plentiful. I can’t believe anyone would leave still hungry. It’s an established treasure.
Great for special occasions. Friendly and attentive service. Great food and drinks
We were at a round table. And a late guest arrived. Staff was very accommodating food as always was great. Love the violins. It’s a great way lace for a small intimate dinner or for a larger group.
Our friends Angela and Sonny couldn’t say enough about this place, so when our daughter just moved to Chicago and we were just there for a visit, we had to go! We sat out in the courtyard and the service was exceptional… Everything from people filling our water glasses to our server, Alex. Can’t say enough about the food and how spectacular it was. We then proceeded to go inside to the bar where there was a great piano player and we had a nightcap. And you know the recommendation from friends is great when they suddenly surprise you and show up at the last minute for a late night bite after work, and the staff didn’t miss a beat! Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!!!
I loved it, the food was outstanding and the environment was amazing. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
