About the restaurant

This high-energy bistro took over as Williamsburg's best restaurant as soon as it opened in 2003. The sophisticated but relaxed dining room has an open kitchen, which uses fresh, local ingredients for its creative American fare. Reservations for the dining room and the bar are recommended and may be made up to 61 days in advance. Open daily for dinner, a reservationist is available during the day to take reservations by phone.

All reservations are for Fat Canary. Downstairs at Fat Canary is no reservations and is a same day, in-person check-in for our waitlist.

Dining at Fat Canary is always a treat. It is especially nice when I'm dining alone and get to sit at the bar. The two bar tenders ( I always forget their names) are great. They always remember you and engage you in wonderful conversation all while they're preparing wonderful cocktails.

Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Our service was excellent. Mason was very attentive and polite. Everyone’s food was really good. They give you plenty of food. Large selection of craft beers to choose from. Definitely recommend.

There were 4 of us, we each ordered our favorites. The food was delicious as usual. We each had a glass of wine, talked, laughed a lot and promised to come back in a couple of weeks. The wait staff was very attentive, and the young man bussing the tables was very sweet and hard working. We gave him a special tip as we were leaving. Of course we also tipped our waitress.
