Capo is hard to explain - it is housed in a totally non-descript building in Santa Monica, but once you walk past the velvet curtains, you enter a temple of cool. European vibe, with open hearth and eclectic art work. Then there’s the music - I don’t know another restaurant that can make Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin mix well with The Bee Gees and George Michael. Their wine list is exemplary. It is very expensive but totally worth it. Capo is our “go to” spot for special occasions when in LA.

Growing up in Italy, my family cooked at home and had the most extraordinary experiences with ingredients grown in our backyard, paired with the wines my chef/restaurateur stepfather would bring back from regions throughout Italy. I fell in love with food as a child watching my stepfather, once nominated a top chef in Italy, work in restaurant kitchens and floors. Moving to California in 1991 and subsequently to Santa Monica and experiencing the Farmers Market inspired me to start Orto - Italian for “vegetable garden” - where I meld local ingredients and organic herbs grown here at the restaurant to create traditional Italian recipes. At our bar you’ll find a cocktail list created from fresh herbs and premium spirits, and our wine list focuses on sustainable and organic producers. Andrea Inio

We decided to go there later in the evening for drinks only and got seated at a table. I felt I still wanted to eat something and they let me order just two sides without a main or protein. We had the mashed potatoes and the broccolini. The portions were quite generous and the execution and seasoning on both was really good. The drinks were delicious too along with outstanding ambiance and design. We will be back even though a bit expensive.

What a great experience! Hospitality was warm and inviting from the moment we walked in the door. The ambiance is stunning - I love the hand-painted flowers and brick walls. Nestled on the 17th floor of The Angelino Hotel, WEST Restaurant is a culinary gem that redefines the dining experience with its innovative approach to portion sizes and breathtaking views.
