SHU’s environment is well-suited to singles, couples and families. The bar seats up to ten people and there is a special booth that seats six people. This was our first time here. We were pleasantly surprised. I ordered seafood linguini (they only had it with risotto, but they accommodated my request to linguini.) it was perfecto! Their blueberry pie was out of this world. I will go back with my partner for sure.

Manpuku was pretty tasty! Tried the 4th of July wagyu special and it had a lot of side dishes… unfortunately, it was a little pricey for the ultimate amount of meat we got. Felt like we got a lot of filler sides (roasted corn, kimchi, beef stew, edamame, salad) and they were fairly slow bringing out the meat (20-25 min after sides). Quality of all the food was quite good. Just wished we could have gotten to the beef sooner… timing to grilled meats was pretty slow… final bill was a bit steep but quality and service was there…

Growing up in Italy, my family cooked at home and had the most extraordinary experiences with ingredients grown in our backyard, paired with the wines my chef/restaurateur stepfather would bring back from regions throughout Italy. I fell in love with food as a child watching my stepfather, once nominated a top chef in Italy, work in restaurant kitchens and floors. Moving to California in 1991 and subsequently to Santa Monica and experiencing the Farmers Market inspired me to start Orto - Italian for “vegetable garden” - where I meld local ingredients and organic herbs grown here at the restaurant to create traditional Italian recipes. At our bar you’ll find a cocktail list created from fresh herbs and premium spirits, and our wine list focuses on sustainable and organic producers. Andrea Inio

We were greeted by a very lovely hostess. She knew we were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday (I'm visiting her from out of town), and she said she had a great table for us (which it was). Our waiter was the opposite. He did give great suggestions of things to order (not from his own inquiry of questions we had about the menu, but our questions because we had never been there before). He walked passed our table many times, not stopping to check in or fill our glasses from the bottle of wine we ordered. He didn't bring one dish we ordered, and had to remind him to remove it from our bill. He never asked if there was anything else we wanted (dessert for the birthday). We saw him being attentive to other customers, and he actually came over to spend time telling us about taking time to talk to another customer's daughter on the phone to take her "to go" order. Why is that important to us when we're there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Bottom line, the food was delicious and the hostess was very sweet. If we go again, maybe we'll get a waiter interested in our experience.
