I had not been to Torre de Castilla for probably 20 years or more. The place was busy and the staff very attentive. As a “ botana” I ordered some “ montaditos de boquerón con anchoa” recommended by the waiter which were very nice. And then when my guest arrived we let the waiter recommend some soup (onion for him, garlic for me). If I had looked at the menu I would not have ordered it as it came with a fried egg which I don’t eat except at breakfast. At the waiter’s recommendation we ordered a “ lechón” ( suckling pig) for the two of us but frankly there was far more bone than meat. We washed it all down with a bottle of Carmela Rodero Crianza (from Ribera de Duero) which was very nice albeit expensive.Desserts were good ( some “ ate con queso” and the strawberries wrapped in chocolate with vanilla ice cream.) Then some coffee ( double espresso) for me and americano for my guest). Total damage with tip about US$ 335.00

We had a reservation at 5pm which meant not too many occupied tables, those that were there were finishing a leisurely lunch. Exquisite interiors and lovely attentive service. We ordered 2 starters and found ourselves full—too full to order entrees but not so full we couldn’t order 2 desserts. The food was exceptional and next time I’d go for a long lunch with friends.

Having been to Spain multiple times, this was rather weak version of true tapas. Some foods we’re good and others only so so. Service and price where very good.

The Spanish food served at the restaurant is absolutely delicious. It has one of the rarest desserts for Spanish restaurants in Mexico, which is leche frita . Service is very good and the selection of wine and spirits is up to par . I most definitely recommend it !
