About the restaurant
Casual, coastal restaurant in the North Loop. Reservations taken for dining room only, patio seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a current partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild caught or farm raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

Service was excellent and our waiter did a good job letting us know when the food would be coming out. She also kept coming back and asked us if we needed anything.

Took my 5 year old granddaughter to afternoon tea. (We have tea parties at home.) Child food option was very appropriate for a 5 year old. There were 4 adults. We had a special food request and they were very accommodating. We had so much fun! Very expensive. For that reason, is something I will only do when each of my granddaughters turns 5.

Food and mocktails were great. I took home the Broiler chicken dinner for my family. They enjoyed it. My favorite thing about this place is that there was no Shellfish on the menu, so I could eat just about everything here, except the kimchi pancakes (because shellfish paste) I look forward to adding this spot on my personal list of safe places to eat!
