We attended the Bastille Day dinner starting with 2 drinks and a 4-course meal for two. The chef’s menu included olive/fig tapenade with toasted sourdough, gnocchi with mornay sauce and basil, Coq au Vin, and simple crepes with candied orange for dessert. I should say we have just returned from a 2 week trip to the French Riviera and missing France! However, this meal was a let down as it was so expensive@ $198 (with $30 tip) and really the ingredients used should have made it half that price! Bread, olives, gnocchi and tiny chicken quarter (more like a smaller fowl). The crepes had no filling just sweet sauce and slivers of candied orange. But alas, we are not in France where tips are not expected and prices more moderate.

We enjoyed our meal immensely! The pork chop I ordered was a perfectly cooked medium. The sauce was complimentary and I especially enjoyed the small potatoes and the roasted brussel sprouts were on target. People should really try roasted brussel sprouts if they were turned off at some point by the boiled preparations. We stared with the hot crab and toast and wife enjoyed the fettuccine alfredo and crab fried dumplings. All this accompanied by the beautiful song stylings by Ashley Orlando on the ukulele. Jazz on the ukulele, you must see here somewhere! A true artist.

About the restaurant
The Gregory at The Watermark Hotel is Baton Rouge, Louisiana's premier destination for modern food & wine. Located off the lobby of the hotel, in the former Bank of Louisiana, our restaurant is centered between an open kitchen and a full bar surrounded by murals painted by the artist of who the restaurant is named, Angela Gregory. Chefs Patrick Trahan, Brock Nichols, and Jonathan White design menus that utilize fresh and local produce and available organic proteins that offer twists on Southern classics in a modern farm-to-table menu. As a Louisiana native, Patrick influences Southern cooking styles by employing our wood-stone oven, Spanish Josper oven, and cast-iron grill to elevate flavors and create one-of-a-kind dishes in the downtown Baton Rouge area.

Overall it was good for hotel dinging. However DO NOT get the hummus. By far the worst hummus I have ever had. Play dough would taste better. Service was on par for anywhere these days.
