Cuban
Midtown
About the restaurant
“Mojo,” pronounced “mo-ho,” which means “Caribbean garlic sauce” in Spanish, is a citrus and garlic marinade and dipping sauce that is the foundation of many traditional Cuban dishes.

Our menu is a nod to that tradition with a dash of modern expression to keep it fun and fresh. Mojo features an authentic line-up of traditional Cuban comforts like ropa vieja, empanadas, fried yuca, mojo chicken, and the quintessential Cuban sandwich.

At our indoor/outdoor bar, guests will find an impressive array of rums designed both for sipping and for anchoring traditional cocktails all prepared against the backdrop of a regionally inspired soundtrack intentionally curated to accompany the shaking and stirring. Selections include Mojitos, Cuba Libres, Pina Coladas, and, of course, Daquiris, precisely the way Ernest Hemingway prescribed.

Developed and helmed by a team of industry veterans, Mojo is a true collaboration of both local and national talent.

I really enjoy Mojo Cuban Kitchen and Rum Bar. I think it has quite possibly the best roasted chicken in Tucson. The food and rum are the best.

They ran out of wine glasses (how does that happen and it’s not even the busy season) and by the time my husband got his glass of wine in a water glass we were done with dinner. The waiter waited too long to tell us they had no wine glasses so by the time he finally brought it, my husband didn’t want it. We were ready to go. I asked for no olives in my salad and they overcompensated by filling my salad with 2/3 of it being croutons. I had to search for the rest of the lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. By the time I took most of the croutons out it filled the whole bowl. Otherwise the rest of the food was delicious. Been there many times and this was Not their usual service. I was surprised.

East Tucson
About the restaurant
Zio Peppe is where tradition meets innovation, serious collides with playful, and gourmet converges with casual. Zio Peppe means “Uncle Joe’ in Italian, and just like a beloved “funcle” – a fun uncle, Zio Peppe will make sure all are welcome, and everybody is having a good time.

Zio Peppe is a collaboration between Chef Devon Sanner and Chef Mat Cable. Our menu is anchored in Italian-American classics of pizza and pasta, but draws heavy influence from the foods and flavor profiles of Tucson and the Sonoran region.

Sanner joins forces with Cable after having cooked under Tucson culinary legend Janos Wilder for the past 15 years, serving as chef at Janos, JBAR, Downtown + Cocktails, and The Carriage House.

Zio Peppe, which means “Uncle Joe” in Italian, is in part a tribute to Cable’s uncle, Joe Sottosanti, who opened Tucson’s first Sicilian pizza place, Tesseo’s Pizzeria, nearly 50 years ago.

Went on a Monday. Food was delicious, as always! Happy hour selections tasty and generous portions. Server did best he could, but he was overwhelmed due to lack of sufficient personnel working that evening (every Monday?). First time we encountered this service problem, as past experiences were always delightful. Definitely will go back, but may choose to avoid Mondays!!

They are temporarily in a different space than the normal restaurant but it seemed to work okay. Apparently they’re doing a remodel?? The food was good. It’s a simple menu. Nothing to rave about but good enough for a nice quick sandwich.
