About the restaurant
The Omakase Room at Sushi-san is a culmination of Master Sushi Chefs Kaze Chan and Shigeru Kitano’s combined experience defining the Chicago sushi scene. While the menu and service are informed by tradition, guests can expect a transcendent experience that breaks down the formality and austerity usually accompanying omakase dining. Each dinner in the warm, modern, and intimate ten-seat space features luxury ingredients from around the world. Sophisticated and carefully curated beverage pairings are available to complement the meal.

This was our third time at the Omakase Room. It is simply the best sushi dining in Chicago as far as we can tell. The whole experience is an absolute pleasure, from the pre-dinner cocktail in the private lounge, to the impeccible service to - most importantly - the top of the line menu items that melt in your mouth. It is pricey compared to the average meal, but a bargain for what you get. It's really nothing like "going out for sushi." Most of the fish served in the Omakase Room would be difficult, if not impossible, to find at a run of the mill sushi spot. And they serve the best cuts. The presentation is beautiful. The accompaniments are more likely to be caviar than soy sauce. The wasabi is ground wasabi root, not horseradish paste. Everything about the experience is first rate. Can't wait to go back.

About the restaurant
Try our unique omakase where our chefs will work around your restrictions to course out a mix of traditional, and non-traditional, fare. With signature dishes like our fish & chips and bluefin truffle sashimi, dressed nigiri pieces, and our off menu "special rolls", let our chefs take care of you. Otherwise, order from the menu with many small-bite options, nigiri/sashimi, maki, entrees, or order the chef special rolls à la carte. We pride ourselves on our fish quality. We also have vegetarian off menu special rolls and many vegetarian options!

We have a full bar, which features a full selection of Japanese whisky, sake, cocktails, and more.

Also, since this comes up so often, all of the (many, many) plants throughout the restaurant are real!

We have no affiliation with any other Tanoshii and Sushi Mike

Logan Square
About the restaurant
Akahoshi Ramen is a humble ramen shop in the city of Chicago. Everything is made in the restaurant, including all soups, seasonings, toppings, and noodles.

We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect.

Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. Our ramen is influenced by Japanese and American ideals in cooking.

We hope you will join us to enjoy a bowl of ramen, made with the respect and passion it deserves.

Overall Immaculate experience!!! Ambience, service & food(taste, temp, speed of delivery). We were coming in from milwaukee and running late due to traffic and they were understanding and communicative concerning our reservation. We were in a bit of a rush and they were able to service us in time to make our concert. I loved and was pleasantly surprised by the deep hip hop cuts! I will be returning when I’m in town and I 1000% recommend.

West Loop
About the restaurant
Gaijin by Chef Paul Virant is Chicago’s first okonomiyaki restaurant, offering both Hiroshima and Osaka styles of the savory Japanese pancake. A self-described gaijin, or “outsider” in Japanese, Virant playfully embraces this perspective and honors traditional preparations and techniques, as well as his well-known passion for pickling and preserving.

Designed to deliver a lively and interactive culinary experience, the 60-seat space is anchored by a custom 12-foot griddle and chef’s counter and offers individual Hiroshima teppan griddles for table service.

The dessert menu features kakigori, a shaved ice dessert, along with mochi donuts and other Japanese-inspired treats. The bar program showcases highballs and a focused selection of beer – including a Moody Tongue-Gaijin collaboration house lager, sake, Japanese whisky, and wine.

We can’t wait to see you at Gaijin!

Sat at the chef counter - great spot except the party next door was tapping their feet on the rest bar which rumbled the entire thing. Food was great, happy hour as well.

The food was quite good and we had two cocktails which were so delicious and the meat was delicious with the sauces and on it’s own. The waiter was kind and checked on us frequently too! Very romantic scenery.
