About the restaurant

Amalia Fumelli is the inspiration behind Amalia’s Authentic Italian Restaurant. She was born in Italy in 1932, and grew up on a farm. As she grew up, she took an interest in cooking and learned everything about the Italian kitchen from her mother and grandmother. For countless hours each day, Amalia began making hand-made pasta with her rolling pin on an old, wooden table. After many years, she had mastered her pasta creations through her skilled handiwork, precise cutting skills, and the amount of love she put into her work.

Over time, Amalia has passed all of her secrets and knowledge about food along to her children and grandchildren. One grandchild in particular, Filippo Fanfani, gained a passion for the art of cooking through her guidance. As a child, he spent all his days at his grandmother’s house preparing meals for his family. The two have a strong bond, that began with their conjoining love of creating meals that are enjoyable for everyone.

A very enjoyable dining experience set in the old farmhouse on Main Street in Wake Forest. Our party of four were immediately seated in one of the two main dining room areas. Beautiful interior with tables spaced to provide space and privacy while dining. The food is very much Authentic Italian and our server was very knowledgeable in wine selections and pairings with the entree’s. Very much an upscale restaurant yet prices were what I considered to be reasonable. Portions were large, made fresh and hot when presented at the table. Service was not rushed but paced to provide time to enjoy our food and company. This was not our first visit to Amalia’s, and we were informed that the menu had been updated with new dishes. Everyone agreed at our table that the entree’s were excellent and the service was spot on. Make your reservations in advance as the restaurant books fairly quickly.

The food was outstanding. Our server was attentive without being overwhelming and showed an amazing familiarity with the wine list. The 16 year old dining with us ordered the mocktail and we didn’t think to mention pineapple allergy. As our waiter presented the drink to her, he told her what it was, including the pineapple juice in it. As soon as he found out about the allergy, he took the drink away and returned within moments with a fresh mocktail using a different recipe without pineapple. We didn’t have to ask him to, he just took care of us without complaint.

The Capital Grille is always our top choice for special occasions or a casual night out. However, last night, my mother-in-law ordered the scallop dish and was quite disappointed as it didn’t taste as expected. She has enjoyed it in the past and often orders it when we dine there, so this was a surprise. While we didn’t want to complain because the service and the waiter were excellent, unfortunately, we ended up paying for a dish that we didn’t enjoy. Thank you for your attention to this matter. First time for dinner at Reys for Thanksgiving and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. Turkey was a nice thick slice and not dried out. two slices of smoked Ham and all covered with a tasty, herbed gravy. Drinks were strong yet went down easily. Sides filled up the plate and refills of bread were given. Place was loaded with staff that brought bread and refilled water. Our server did an efficient job and made sure to communicate. She also had a personality. Overall, a good night and even complimentary valet parking. Would do it again and so should you.
