Food was mediocre. Cocktails were very expensive ($13). Service was good. Noise level was very high for a while---very young girls at one table were in Raleigh for dance competition, and were having a great time while making a lot of noise (we didn't mind at all)!
My rating gives no fluff! The entire experience was on par with excellence, from the food (4 people in our party and we all ordered something different) to the drinks to the ambience and noise level. Our service was excellent as well, patient with our questions, and quick and seemingly honest with her recommendations. I look forward to returning.
P.S. It can be pricey but then 1) We ordered drinks and 2) It's a restaurant at a major hotel in the downtown area. Increased costs should be expected.
Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen never disappoints us. Our server was very attentive and the meal options were excellent. Our lobster Shepherd's Pie was absolutely delicious. Great place to share a meal with friends before the Symphony.
Was looking forward to this restaurant. However, it wasn't as good as I had anticipated. Wait staff was nice, food was just OK. Husband had the gumbo, but it was a very small serving. I had the meatloaf which was OK....but the entire meal was lukewarm. I hesitated about sending it back. The chicken wings, however, were very good.
Honestly some of the worst food I’ve had at an upperclass hotel. The scalloped potatoes and macncheese both tasted like lukewarm Velveeta had been poured over it, and the bland meatloaf was only marginally helped by a bottled bbq sauce. We would not eat there again.
Food was ok
The food was flavored well but both my wifes salmon and my burger were overcooked. The drinks were good and the service was outstanding!
Brunswick stew was a soup and not a stew. 2 of the four scallops were burned. Salmon was good. Sweet potato hush puppies were delicious. We have enjoyed Rye in the past but we’re disappointed this night.

I was surprised that the wooden chairs were so bottom line. They are uncomfortable and are a bit spindly. A chair with a seat cushion would be much better with better back support.
My food was delicious, but, after studying your menu online, my party was disappointed that only the special Valentine's menu was available. Not only was this service clear online, but the choices weren't shown online either. We were headed to the play afterwards and none of us wanted to eat that much food before attending the play. We were all interested in the meatloaf and were sorry we couldn't order it.
Lovely evening with great service and food and drink. So close to Duke Energy Center as well!

We were on our way to the symphony at Meymandi Hall, and our experience at Rye Bar made it easy and convenient. The meal was well-served, with very short wait time for our food, which was ample and delicious. The cocktails were very nice. The waiter, polite, the ambiance pleasant, the noise level, manageable. And the distance to Meymandi Hall was one long block, well-lit and well-populated. I'll return.
We had problems with our order and I noticed that so did the table next to us.
The hostess did make an adjustment on our bill to compensate, however that doesn't necessarily make up for problems with the order and hot food served cold.
Not good. Service was slow. Ask about bread they said no one brought you bread yet I said do you see it.
Then our entries were brought out and then the bread. Some of my food had to sent back because it was cold. Service was slow.
Food was just ok. For drinks, two of us ordered the Rat Pack Martini which was to have cheese stuffed olives. Did not know til after the drinks arrived that they only had plain olives. Would have made a different drink selection if I had known that they ran out of cheese stuffed olives. The service was good;servers were very attentive. So service was excellent but the food was so so.
This is a good place to get a bite to eat before going to a concert or show. The menu is not actually my favorite: bbq, fries, etc. It is a southern themed restaurant, afterall. But there are a few healthier items and the bar is particularly good, too. I doubt I would come here if I weren't in the area, but it is a solid choice pre-theater.
When the Restuarant servers make a BIG mistake management is good to rectify the situation.
Ate breakfast here New Year’s Day. It was terrible! After standing in line for 30 minutes (not sure why they didn’t greet people and then let them wait in the waiting area) we were seated at a table. We went back to the buffet to find everything empty. Stood around and waited for something to be refilled. They came out and refilled the eggs. That may have lasted five minutes with all the people waiting for food. I understand being short staffed on a holiday but they should have been more prepared. It was a terrible experience from beginning to end. Had to ask for water several times. Won’t be returning.
This was our first visit. The service and food were excellent. Prices are great. We’ll be back!
For a Christmas Holiday dinner it was beyond disappointing. I won’t return. One and done. Food was obviously precooked and barely warm let alone not quality for prime rib it was very chewy and the potatoes were very salty. Extremely disappointing Christmas meal. Spent $80 at the bar and $180 on dinner, felt like over $250 wasted.
We attended Christmas evening. Very nice hotel restaurant. Comfortable, not crowded. Service was very good. Offerings were limited to two selections. We both had lobster bisque, prime rib, and crème brulee. Very nice prime rib. Would have been better if served warmer. Paired with a nice merlot. Overall an excellent meal. We would return to sample the regular menu.
We had a Thanksgiving prixfix menu dinner at Rye and it was great! Christmas was mediocre
Christmas 2019 at Rye was our third one, and will likely be our last. It is fair to expect more effort for the price. (Our server was very nice, and I suspect that they performed at the level of training and expectations of management.) We sat for ten minutes before anyone came over to acknowledge us--coincidentally, right as I went to complain to the host. The first surprise was when they gave us the picnic mini rolls as a bread plate. And we were there pretty early, so it's unlikely that they'd just run out of the good stuff. The soup dish, lobster bisque, was room temperature at best. The entree was served before the appetizer dishes were removed--might not seem like much, but the table was small and we were clearly done with the soup. The entree, I had duck, was only slightly warmer than room temperature. And again, the entree dishes were not cleared when dessert arrived. I eventually put my plate on the table next to us. (The diners there had moved on.) Generally, there was nothing in the food that suggested any real thought or care went into it. Besides the obvious temperature issues, the sauces tasted canned and sugary, the seasonings were underdone and one-dimensional. Green food coloring in the peppermint creme brûlée--with whipped cream--sounds clever, but it left the dish looking like it'd been sitting out since last Christmas. I appreciate Rye being open on Christmas and all the staff who work then. But we will not be returning or recommending it to anyone else.

-we each specified how we wanted our steaks cooked as we ordered. When she brought them out we were trying to figure out whose was whose; she said “they’re all the same.” When we reminded her we had all ordered them cooked differently, she then told us that all of their steaks were cooked the same way, and Pre-cooked at that
-Steaks were cool, duck and potatoes were cold. Duck and honey cinnamon roll were both tough and chewy
-“peppermint creme brûlée” was just pudding with a crust and whipped cream with peppermint sprinkles, not actual creme brûlée
-I asked for remainder of my meal to be boxed to go. Waitress returned to tell me they were running low on to-go boxes, sorry.
-I saw several other customers leaving with to-go boxes and bags. I asked another server, who confirmed they were indeed running low, and told me he had been wrapping his customers meals in foil. I told him I would’ve really liked to be able to enjoy the rest of my meal that I was paying for. He asked where I was sitting and what I had ordered and said he would get back to me. He did come clear our table, and our waitress brought the check. No manager came out to apologize. I was not provided the remainder of my meal as I had asked. Also nothing, not even coffee, was comped for the inconvenience.
It seems like they don’t care about retaining customers. I will definitely not be returning to Rye, and will advise others not to do so as well. I’ve left a similar review on other platforms as well.
It would’ve been potentially redeemable had I at least been offered complimentary coffee or drinks or a small gift certificate to incentivize me to return or give them another chance. Or at least a manager’s apology, or the waitress’s apology.
The prime rib was good, but the Brussel sprouts were hard and not cook well, and the mashed potatoes were not fresh. My whole meal was swimming in juice from the meat. They pudding was salty. I will not be back next year.
The Food was delicious . I had chicken, macaroni and cheese and green beans. Everything was seasoned to perfection.
The waitress was very nice and friendly. She was just the only one on the that night so we had to wait a long time for everything. We were very pleased.
December 2018 we had a wonderful meal at Rye prior to a concert, so this time we invited family to dine with us. What a disappointment!
Food was slow to arrive and our server was repeatedly apologetic. The appetizers - crispy ribs and sweet potato hushpuppies - were quite good. However, although we were there early in the evening ( 5:30 pm) they had already out of one of the entrees.
Three of our four entrees - the seared scallops, the dill cured salmon and the local greens salad with grilled shrimp - all tasted good and were cooked well, but nothing special, and the presentation was not worthy of an upscale restaurant. For example, a bed of rice, a salmon portion, and the whole thing covered in arugula which had been simply tossed so as to cover the entire plate.
Worst of all, the fourth entree arrived with burnt classic meat loaf, cold green beans and luke warm potatoes. This plate was eventually replaced, however the recipient received her new meat loaf only after the rest of us had finished eating.
It was then time to consider dessert, and they had already sold out of crème brûlée and the seasonal tart, so we had white chocolate icebox cake which was good, and apple pie which was mediocre, served cold. To their credit, Rye comped the botched meat loaf dinner and did not charge for dessert. Sadly, we are not likely to return.
Seemed understaffed. Almost Every table revolted and walked out without food after sitting for an hour after putting our orders in. We stayed and scarfed our food down in 12 minutes. We were headed to a play and couldn’t be late. I think most patrons picked that place because it was very close to memorial Auditorium. I gave everyone working there the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe people called out at the last minute. I don’t know but it was a terrible experience. The food was good and the cocktails we had were great (old fashioned). I wish we could have taken our time more to eat with enjoyment.
I took my wife to a concert at the Meymandi Concert Hall and afterwards we went to Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen. We both order the chicken, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. The chicken was the best we've ever eaten. The sides were very good also, but we have raved about the chicken ever since. We will definitely be returning.

Beautiful ambiance! Great service! The food, however, was mediocre. I found the turkey and gravey to be very salty, and the turkey seemed processed, not freshly sliced. Like one of those rolled up turkey loin roasts you can get at Food Lion....JS! I expected better for the $35 price point. Also disappointed in the desert choices. I ordered the pear desert and I didn’t expect to get a whole hard to cut with a knife pear...it was awful! My daughter ordered the pie, and the ice cream that accompanied it was beyond brick hard. I heard a customer at another table comment that she was going to request the waiter bring out a jackhammer! Maybe the rest of the regular menu is better, and the ambiance was so nice I would come back again to give it a try. I just won’t do Thanksgiving dinner again.

Turkey & Apple pie was good. I wasn't impressed w/ stuffing or Cranberry at all. And those are 2 of my favs. Stuffing was heavy, salty & Bland. Asked for a Wine spritzer for my Mom. Bartender didnt no how to make it. A wine spritzer?? Pretty simple so drinks took awhile 2 get. Wine spritzer got taken off. Bartender needs some training. Got sweet bread before meal which I found a bit wierd. Thanksgiving meal wasn't anything Great but it was in a hotel too. Won't be back.
I've been to Rye in the past for thanksgiving dinner and this one was not what I was expecting. I think they cut corners with not having family style eating. For dessert the apple pie was actually cold. If you're going to serve it with ice-cream, then it should be warm. The food just didn't seem as fresh as the last time. I don't think it was a good idea to change up a good thing. Go back to family style...Please!
It was for Thanksgiving and although the ideas were great it appeared everything was pre plated and they had been expecting many people for a very long time. The food was not worth the cost. I was very under impressed. Our dessert had been plated and frozen you could barely cut through the apple pie or the ice cream. Expected more for the cost and my own expectations. Live and learn never do that again
