Wonderful ambience on the waterfront, excellent sushi, lobster bisque and enjoyed the cocktails. Kimberly was an outstanding server who knew the menu inside/out and took great care of our group.

We had a fabulous experience at Roy’s San Diego at the Marriott marina . We were a party of 6 people at 6 pm and were attending a concert at the Rady Shell nearby. The waitress and her team put our order right in and got us to the concert right on time …. The food was excellent as always 😀

It’s frustrating to make a reservation, get to a restaurant and see many open tables (this was at 5:15 pm), and have to wait 15 minutes after we checked in at our reservation time before we finally were seated. The excuse was they didn’t have all the servers there for that section. Then don’t take a reservation for that time if you can’t staff properly. Our waiter was very nice and personable, but it took 20 minutes after our order to get drinks. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks did! They weren’t complicated, 2 glasses of wine and 2 margaritas, and several tables that came after us had their drinks before we did. The food was delicious but very expensive. Most entrees were over $50 and smaller plates, such as a single sushi roll, were $22 or more. Paying for the ambience and location, which is not unexpected, but at least they should staff appropriately for those prices.

We had a reservation at 6 pm. Arrived before that. Were seated. Ordered drinks and an appetizer and ordered a main meal at the time we ordered the appetizer. We were served the appetizer, but never got the main meal. Finally, after 7 PM we got up and left because we had a concert at the Rady shell at 7:30. The manager apologized and took down our name, phone number and email.

Waiter was very nice, however service was slow from the beginning. We sat with no food and empty cocktail glasses for quite some time. Regarding gluten, how is it with so many dishes with soy sauce, that a restaurant can’t use Tamari (GF soy sauce)? It tastes the same. 95% of the appetizer menu was not GF. A veggie wrap was all that was available. It’s not that hard - how about a shrimp cocktail? Dinner options were better. Given how long dinner took, we had to skip dessert because we had somewhere to go.

Food did not meet the expectations that come with Roy’s. Fish was fishy and potatoes were undercooked. Service was great and took the meal off the bill. Manager never came by to support the server. A tourist spot that doesn’t seem to require excellent.

We dined at Roy's July 5th. The hostess was rude. We sat at the bar to wait for 10 minutes waiting for our table and got no service. Once seated at our dining table it took several minutes to be greeted by our server. We ordered a bottle of wine, took almost 15 minutes to get it. Server said the bartenders were swamped. Our server was great. He recommended we order right away because the kitchen was backed up. Glad we did because it took a long time for our food to arrive. We had 3 appetizers and they were delicious. Seemed like the restaurant was understaffed and not prepared for the busy weekend. Won't return until summer is over!

My wife’s ahi was great. My steak was terrible. Asked for medium rare, got medium well. I should have complained to the server, but she never asked. Otherwise it was okay.

I’ve been here a few times and thought the service was terrible because it was a holiday or because the restaurant was slammed. Sitting in a half empty restaurant it was still terrible service and our entrees (the only food we ordered) still took an hour to come out. My son started crying and climbed into his stroller demanding we go back to the hotel. I’ve never seen him do that but he was hungry and tired of waiting. Me too kid, me too. In an hour and a half, we never did get a refill of his juice nor did our server ask and had to flag the server down to get a second drink. I had hoped that maybe my prior bad experiences were just flukes but it’s pretty clear to me service is just terrible here.
