Went out for a getaway with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. We made reservations online and had to call to change our reservation time and they were very nice and accommodating. The restaurant is behind the Marriott. We parked in the back. Roys was located a very short walk away. We were seated outside in the bar area next to the fire pit. It was a beautiful location and view. Our servers were very attentive and kind. Our waiter reminded me of Zhu, the dj, if you know you know. Positive vibes! We had a couple rounds of the Tiki POG Punch. So refreshing and fun! Lol We tried the szechuan spiced pork ribs, Auntie Lee's Aloha Roll, and the Katsu chicken. Everything was delicious! Ribs fell off the bone. The roll was fresh and delicious. We were so happy that they gave us a complimentary anniversary dessert. It was a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and fudge on the side. Best dessert ever!! It was a very nice experience and we look forward to going back. Thank you Roy's!
Mgmt was off the chart good
This is the type of place where you might need to bring two credit cards with you. Or, better yet, have someone else pay. Beautiful location and great service, but the food just doesn't warrant the truly outrageous prices.
Everything was amazing
It was the perfect experience for our son's 18th birthday! My only recommendation is to make it clear that the restaurant is located inside of the Marriott. Once we were in, the ambiance and scenery were stunning!
The staff was so friendly and definitely created a special night for our anniversary. The food was delicious too!
Aw Roy's....I had high hopes for you but it's no surprise your other San Diego locations haven't survived. Because this location is attached to the Marriot Hotel Bayfront, it attracts mostly tourists. If you're not seeking a corporate, tourist environment, take a pass and head to where the real San Diego food lies! For that reason, the service was sub-par. Friendly and attentive enough, but lacked personal touch or personality. There was zero conversation from the waiter unless it was food related. Sure that would pass at other restaurants, but when I'm ordering a $50+ entree...I expect more. The food was good, but for the price..not excellent or unique. We were sat near the kitchen with a light over head that glared directly in one our groups faces. Made for some interesting jokes throughout the night. As a self-proclaimed San Diego foodie, I'll admit I'm a tough audience, but this experience left me wanting. I'd be confident to say Roy's as a restaurant has seen its glory days and without some serious changes, will be underwater soon.
We have eaten here before and found that this time the food was not a good as in the past.
The service however was just as good as always. Adam served us and he was very attentive.
We told the restaurant it was my sister’s birthday, but they didn’t bring her the birthday dessert they usually do. I’m not sure why. I was looking forward to it. It’s always special when they do it.
This Roy’s is in a nice setting and the noise level is low, for a lovely dinner where people can hear one another. Parking is ridiculous, still $10 with validation, ($25 without). That would prevent us from returning, Roy’s should comp parking if they want outside business, restaurant was quite empty. Food was top notch.
The seafood is always a good choice. The Marina view is nice.
We were pleasantly surprised, had limited expectations for a chain restaurant but actually this proved to be one of the best meals we had in our one-week stay in San Diego. Great seafood.
Very good Sochi placed us near the kitchen when better tables available
The starters and soup was great but the entrées were just warm almost cold. The restaurant looked very dated... lots of chairs in the entry area, perhaps they were preparing for a remodel. Our server was great however his assistant wasn’t the greatest.
Excellent waiter with tasty food. A bit pricey but very enjoyable evening.
Had a business dinner there with a client. Everyone was impressed and very satisfied. We will be back!!
Everything was great with the food and service. We loved our time there celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday. The black cod was buttery and delicious. The filet mignon and lobster cooked to my perfection. We ate everything off the plate. Service was very friendly and fast on a Tuesday night. We would love to go back again.
Excellent food and service but $80+ for one person for lunch is too pricey
At the Marriott ...you know the standard
Very ordinary food
It was a nice venue and service was great. The food was good not amazing as the prices suggest they should be. I got the macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi, the crust was good but the fish had no taste at all. It was served on top of some mashed potatoes and 3 pieces of asparagus covered in a white sauce. My wife ordered the filet covered in an onion sauce, it was good but not the way I would serve it. We both agreed it was nice, but that we would not come back. We had 3 cocktails and all 3 tasted kinda different or not what we expected. A mai tai, Maui sunrise, and a tiki punch.
Roy's is always almost an A+. This evening i decided to try a Singapore Sling for the first time in forever ! Bartender didn't have one of necessary ingredients so waitress was so solicitous & we made an easy substitute. Imagine great care about a cocktail !! Food always great, fresh & yummy.
Dependable as always. Quality food for the price. One of our favorites when we are near enough to go to a Roy’s.
Thanks again for a great evening.
everyone was happy with the food and service and the waiter was happy to split bill and separate the alcohol.
Delicious food, attentive but not intrusive service, in a setting that exuded luxury. Prices felt a little high, but even with drinks and dessert, our party of three had no complaints, given that our dinner at Roy’s was intended to be a splurge.
Food used to be good, not the same quality . I ordered the "Butter Fish" entre and there were hardly any sauce comes with it. Rice was a bit on a drier side, was hoping the sauce would complement the rice, therefore a bit disappointed if my entree.
I grew up dining at Roy's most of my life, unfortunately, food and quality of services had gone down the hill as well. Old school rules back in the days. Not my kind of place to spent over $250 on meals that was not the way I used to enjoyed, especially on my Birthday. ...
