    One of our favorite restaurants in this great City of excellent dining experiences. The food is always interesting and delicious; the wait staff is knowledgeable and just attentive enough to make the time enjoyable. The charcuterie board is always a treat filled with exceptional and unusual treats. Wonderfully consistent.

    Place was empty on a Saturday night. That should have been a warning for us. Backless stools at the tables, freezing blowing air in dining room. They said they could not adjust temp. We decided to move to a table outside. Drinks were good, wine very expensive for a small glass. Steak came out raw and fatty. They had excuses for that. Duck bun was gross. Bread was stale. Chick pea dish and grits and crawfish were good. Waitress was chatty but strange. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Save your time and money. There are so many better choices.

    Stay away!!! We finally walked out. Poor service. Not friendly. Waited 40 minutes for a cheese platter which never came because the waitress forgot to write it down. when we spoke up we where treated rudely by the MANAGER. You can do far better. Worst experience we have ever had dinning in NOLA.

    waitress was super nice and knowledgeable. the service was extremely slow. food was awesome, except the beef/oyster tartare. we loved the crawfish and grits, and the face bacon was very good.

    Delightfully delicious, as always! First time at new location and not disappointed. Wonderful, warm staff...amazing charcuterie and cocktails...always worth the price, though more reasonably-priced wines by the glass would be appreciated.

    I had a pleasant experience eating upstairs on the balcony. The waitress was very amicable and explained everything served to us. I wasn't too impressed with the food, but it wasn't bad.

    OMG! We've never had more fun or enjoyed better food and drinks. Truly great place! The sample plates were delicious and unique. Unbelievable service. Drinks were out of this world, Do not miss this place. Best in NOLA!

    What a great place. Presentation was fantastic and not just for show. Food was delicious. You have to get the charcuterie and cheese. They make their own meats. It's crazy good! I usually skip the reviews but this place blew me away. This is how you have a fun night and eat at the same time.

    My girlfriend and I went to Root the night before my birthday to celebrate and eat a fancy meal out of town. Brittany was a very helpful and personable server. She explained every dish in great detail. I loved the experience of getting a drink and a charcuterie plate to start and just continuing to order small plates until we're full. We probably took 15 minutes to establish a plan for what order we would get everything. I LAUGHED at how good the Leonard Cohen was. The Sundae was divine too. Thanks for helping me ring in the new year and my 25 birthday. Cheers!

    I went for a date with my partner and we had an absolutely amazing time. We started with the cheese plate and wine and it was so well paired and wonderfully explained. Our waiter was top notch. For dessert we had the sundae and it was to die for! I highly recommend this place!

    Appetizer was good. All main courses at the table (soft shell crab, pork chops) and the accompanying cooked vegetables were served cold. Pork chops had a lot of fat which if properly cooked would have been rendered, but they were not even fully cooked. Serving them cold made the situation even worse. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, quite the contrary.

    With friends meeting after 45 years; found "Root" online and it did not disappoint. Had the charcuterie/cheese board = excellent selections, presentation, tastes; duck sticky bun and pickled peach salad also good with unexpected inventive attention to fresh food. Friends also had soft shell crab and beef/oyster dish and said they were excellent. Waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. Drinks are expensive. And they don't serve coffee??!!??

    Didn't realize that when they moved from the Warehouse District to above Square Root that they'd changed everything. Food was decent but over priced. Disappointing overall. Miss the old Root

    Honestly a disaster. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived. The server could not have been nicer but the food was way over rated and not memorable at all. By the time we ordered entrees around 8:30 on a Friday night the kitchen had run out of selections. What we were able to order was so slow the server was buying us rounds of drinks. I am not usually this harsh as I travel a good deal and am usually forgiving but this is one I will not try again

    It was my best friend's 28th birthday and girls weekend in New Orleans. The staff was rude, distant, had attitude, and took forever. There were only three other tables at the restaurant.. This should have been our red flag. They knew it was her birthday because my friend who wasn't there had bought champagne and the waiter brought it to the table. The food was terrible and my friend's steak was supposed to be medium rare and ended up being red. She sent it back and the waiter gave her so much grief. I even saw another waiter death glare us. We spent way too much money on a terrible meal with terrible staff and I would recommend any other place in New Orleans but this place.

    It's unfortunate that I have to write this review but I feel that I have to. My husband and I went to Root for the first time about a year ago. The food was phenomenal, mind blowing. The service was even better. We couldn't wait to go back. We've to every 5 star restaurant in the city and this was one of our favorites. So, we decided to take my mother and some business associates for what we thought would be an equally amazing experience. Dinner was to be at the new location which we were excited to see. When we walked in with our party of 6, we were shocked to see the tiny bar stool table set for us. It was hardly enough for 4 people so we requested more room which still was very right and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, I'd say that aside from the cheese board, every single meal was mediocre at best. NOTHING like our first experience and after our second experience, I was actually embarrassed. Whoever was in charge of the changes that took place made a huge mistake. I will never recommend Root again and I feel terrible about it.

    We were a group of three tourists who came in for an early dinner on a local friend's recommendation. We made a reservation for 5:30 Saturday night and got seated right away. The waitstaff explained the menu thoroughly before we ordered as well as when they brought our dishes to the table. We opted for the snack board, pickled shrimp and deviled eggs, and the half and half charcuterie board. It was a nice selection of everything. Snack board had lots of interesting inventive things. Root is the tapas style menu and Square Root is the prix fixe menu.

    We didn't try the large plates, but the appetizers and small plates were creative, and the service friendly. Highly recommend the appetizer sampler! Perfect if you're looking for something special but still just a quick cab rice from the touristy Quarter--I'd send any of my friends here.

    The food was great, and our server was friendly and accommodating. The hostess, however, was rude. Root needs to reconsider having her be the first face customers see if she is regularly that condescending.

    Was there a couple of years ago on an earlier visit to NOLA and loved it so went a 2nd time in a few day visit. Wasn't wowed as much this time but still enjoyed it.

    The closest we've been to a gastro-pub, we appreciate the intensity and delicacy of the offerings. We had the Grande Charcuterie tray ($85) to start, which was heaven for this paleo-dieter. We were disappointed they no longer had the terrarium on the menu but the faux gras lollipop didn't disappoint. Overall it loses stars for this Sunday evening 7PM dinner (Mother's Day) for being poorly staffed for this price point. Comparable meals at similar establishments feature attentive staff refilling water, answering questions, up-selling menu items and in our case, keeping the pint glasses full. They were clearly short staffed. But the innovative cuisine is well worth the adventure.

    overall food was excellent although felt the waiter could have explained the dishes in a bit more detail, like some of the entrees were clearly meant to be shared. the cheese/meat boards are wonderful but overpriced.

    My friend and I went to Root after it was recommended to us by a friend who travels often. We followed his advice to the detail and ordered all the charcuterie and also the foie gras. For drinks we ordered off of their cocktail menu, our drinks were lovely, light on the palate, and didn't shy from the booze. Lauren, our bartender, was so kind and attentive... the perfect balance of service and friendship! The foilly pop, foie torchon coated in pop rocks and wrapped in foie gras cotton candy was the most exciting amuse bouche I have ever had. When the charcuterie board arrived, it was hand delivered by Michael, the Sous Chef of ROOT who creates and cures all of their meats in house. Hats off to Michael. The charcuterie were varied in meat and in concept and all of the accoutrements were perfectly paired. My friend and I both agreed that this is hands down the best charcuterie we have had in the states. Do yourself a favor and check out Root!
