Shrimp and Mayo
It’s was amazing
The only reason I wasn't fully happy with it was because they did not have crab (which is the only thing I get) or tuna (which is what someone else in my party wanted, and the waitress didn't seem to care when she told us.
Loved the service and the food
Food was good but service was not, especially for the price. We waited 20 mins for a table even though we had a reservation, waited 45 mins for our food to be cooked and another 30 mins just to pay our bill.
Good and hibachi chef was great. Server was not good and it was waaaayyy too hot. We were so sweaty it was difficult to enjoy.
Our first time there, so we didn't know we had to share our table. I wish I would've known sooner, but overall it was great.
My Chef Salgondo
The cook overcooked the meat. Was sad they didn't have yum yum sauce. It was also a bit pricy for the small amount of food you received.
Experience was very underwhelming. Expected way more compared to other places like this I have been
The food was amazing as always.
This place was awesome! The service was amazing, chefs were extremely prompt and professional and the food is off the chain!!
The food was great, ❤️I had a ball more hours of service would be nice
Quality is going down
We've been coming to Ron of Japan for over 20 years. Exceptional service and food is always fantastic!
Good birthday dinner.
Insanely expensive for what you get. This is NOT worth $125 per person.
Our server continued to rush us through every course. We were there on my son’s 12th birthday. It was not pleasant at all because of the waiter. Our table was still full of our dinner dishes snd he brought our dessert out without clearing of the dinner dishes first. He was horrible.
Good, but overpriced. Kids meals were certainly overpriced. Egg sauce was good. Chef did not do any “tricks” like often are done at teppanaki restaurants.
My son didn’t have a Prom this year due to covid and chose to take his date here.
Great service. My family and my favorite is the shogun. This was my first time at the downtown location. Great atmosphere. This is my favorite restaurant. You can’t find this kind of restaurant anywhere but Chicago and northbrook. I would recommend this to everyone. Have been going here for 25 years.
Thank you for an amazing experience!!
Boy...this place has really gone down hill! We got the shrimp and king crab combo meals and the crab was tough and tasteless! The shrimp was ok but for a price of $46 per meal, you would expect a lot better. On top of the food that was just ok, they charged us an additional $20 for the fried rice they made for 3 of us. When did that become an ala cart item? It used to be included, along with noodles, which we didn't get this time. And while we couldn't care less about all the tricks that the cooks normally do, our cook did nothing...well except continually try to clarify the order that was right in front of him?? Honestly, he must have asked us 6 different times??? But, if this was your first time or you had kids with you, all the fun tricks the cooks normally do are an important part of the meal. In the end, our bill for 3 of us was $190, no alcohol! I was a bit shocked, but since we were with someone from out of town, I didn't look too closely at the bill. When I got home, I realized they had added in the tip already (which I had also added $40). Since when do restaurants automatically add in the tip for 3 people?
Amazing food as always!!! Highly recommend!! Egg sauce out of this world!!
Ron of Japans is my family's favorite restaurant and I went there with three friends who had never dined there. Our group really loved the food.
We had two issues:
First, although the restaurant was not busy on a Tuesday night with a 5PM reservation, we did feel rushed by a new waiter who did not appear to be trained properly.
Second, we were celebrating two birthday. I quietly told hostess and she wanted to know if we wanted one or two pineapple tops brought out. I said two. That never occurred which was disappointing.
Went for a birthday, got private table in the back. They didn’t do a birthday thing for me, although it was mentioned to the server and with the reservation..
Love this place
it was all good we all had a great time and the food was great
My youngest birthday and she chose ROJ, just like her old man (me) does for his bday. The place was jumping with energy and it was packed. It was a great thing to see after the last 12 months or so we all went through.
The food is perfect as always, the shrimp with egg sauce is legendary. The steaks are high quality and the lobster my bride had was awesome. The service was very very slow, I just think they weren’t prepared for a full house and to be honest it didn’t bother me that much. Looking forward to returning soon.
The food was delicious and staff friendly! Felt safe with checking temperature, requiring mask, and people at the table. Made reservations for 4,
Shrimp Crown dinner is amazing! Yao is the best cook!
Great service, great food, & great price... Definitely will be making a return trip.
We chose Ron of Japan because we wanted an authentic Japanese teppanyaki experience. We were seated immediately and then (Strike 1) waited 20 minutes before a server came. My wife noticed after a while that the prep cook was continuously motioning to the servers that nobody had come to our table. After a server finally came and took our order our chef arrived. (Strike 2) he was not Japanese, he was not even Asian, so much for authenticity. (Strike 3). Our chef was robotic and lifeless, he did not engage with us at all, he didn’t do any knife acrobatics, no onion volcano, no egg tricks...there was absolutely no performance whatsoever and that was one of the main reasons that we came. He set fire to the food only once without any warning or fanfare so we couldn’t even take a photo and he never did it again. (Strike 4) the ventilation hood above our table, if it was working at all, barely caught any of the smoke, my wife and I commented that the smoke was going around it, as the entire room was full of smoke. Had the food not been EXCEPTIONALLY great I would have refused to pay. As it was I felt completely ripped off paying $200 + $30 tip. I’m not sure why anyone would return after that, I could have gotten the same experience had I ordered carry-out and avoided having my clothes smell like kitchen smoke. They should have cooked the food in the back and not bothered with the grill/table. It’s a shame too because I remember having wonderful meals years ago when this used to be one of the top teppanyaki places around. We will not be back.
Nice for special occasions and the food was tasty. Staff was nice and friendly.
My moms birthday. .. she enjoyed every second of it.
Food was terrible, the vents didn't work husband couldn't breathe! The "egg sauce" is not good and it's all they season the food with so food was not good at all! Total waste of money! And it was my daughter's birthday, all they did was bring out a pineapple top with sparklers on it... really not worth it!
The egg yolk topping is the BEST. Steak and seafood is top quality. Fun place!
Friends birthday we waited about an hour for a table but the drinks are good at the bar
Our server was terrible. The food was bland and expensive. The ambiance was cool, but the experience was disappointing.
