Service and food delivery were very slow, but I made allowances for that since we had just went through a huge snow storm the day before. They may have been short staffed.
We always enjoy Robust, and we were pleasantly surprised to find the prix fixe menu for New Year's Eve. It was delicious and was a great value!
We went to Robust for dinner on New Year's Eve. We did not have any other plans for the evening, so there was no rush. It was a great choice. Kip our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He made great suggestions on wines and the small plates we went with. He also kept us advised as to why some of our early dishes took awhile to get to us (because there was a glut of folks there for an early dinner before their parties and were doing the tasting dinner). Once we got past that initial rush, everything else came out quickly. We enjoyed our NYE dinner and went home having enjoyed good wine and great food. We will definitely be going back.
Great New Years Eve dinner! We did the tasting menu and it was perfect.
This was our first visit. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was awesome and the wine was great. We just ordered several shareables.
I loved several aspects about this restaurant: super-friendly, nice ambiance, good variety of interesting menu options. So, why the 3 stars instead of more? The entree my friend and I ordered was the butternut lasagna. It arrived, all ~ 3 inch square of it on a large white plate....that’s it. A tiny piece of lasagna that could be eaten in about 2 minutes. I had expected more from an entree that costs $18. There was no presentation and the size was very very skimpy.
This was our second visit, and we were as pleased this time as last. Great food and superb service. Highly recommended.
Wonderful. Brought the kids for the first time and had a great family dinner
Food was just okay. Limited menu and didn’t love what I had.
All around excellent experience- food and service although the single glass wine pour could have been a speck more “generous “.
Great waiter with some good wine suggestions. A holiday tradition with a good friend.
Fantastic experience. Food is amazing. Great service.
Robust is a favorite get-together place (lunch or dinner) for me and my sisters. Wine list is very good and will cover most tastes. Daily specials are a good food choice and on the standard menu baked camembert and chowder are always delicious. Wait staff is attentive but not too much so. Our server on Friday was personable and provided good descriptions of the specials and suggestions for our meal - and kept our coffee cups full as we finished our dessert.
We received excellent care from our server, Mark. Our party of four was at his table for about 2 1/2 hours and he never tried to push us along. Cocktails, then apps, wine flights with dinner, coffee with dessert...each course was delish! I look forward to going back again very soon.
Great service, food and wine. Josh was a great server as always
And a really good time, the staff is really nice and very helpful when he came to wine options and food. Great place to eat and drink. 👍
Great service, good wine, good ambiance. Would definitely go again.
Service was great, food also very good. Overall a very nice experience!
Good assortment of choices and just the right amount of food. Service was very attentive which is always refreshing.
Our first time at Robust was to celebrate our anniversary and we can’t wait to go back. The wide selection of wines and food was perfect for sharing and trying a variety. We each had a different wine flight and every dish was delicious made with fresh, quality ingredients. Service was attentive and friendly.
Our waitress was awesome. She knew when we needed service and left us alone. The food was creative which we really enjoyed with the wine flights that were just OK. We were there for 5 hours, started at 2:45 in the afternoon outside enjoying wine and cheese, some flat bread, and a bit of carpaccio then moved inside for our entree as the temperature went down with the sun. Including tip we dropped $235. But dining with my amazing wife in beautiful Webster Grove in the sun is priceless. We even got to watch the little ones tricker treat.
Robust is always a great place for food, wine, and when they have live music!
Went with a group of friends in from out of town for drinks and dinner. We chose Robust because it’s quiet and we wanted to talk and catch up. But there was live music, with an amp, approximately 15 feet from our table. Needless to say, all conversations were shut down! We complained a few times to our server, and he expressed sympathy and said the wait staff had also asked them to quiet down a bit but no luck. Food was great but the music was very disruptive.
Food menu is somewhat limited, but everything we ordered was delicious. The salad was fresh and crispy, and the crabcakes were particularly tasty. The cocktails were inventive and well done, but the wine list--OMG! If you are an oenophile, this place is for you!
Food and wine were delicious. Lovely sitting outside!
Experienced perhaps the worst service I have ever encountered in a restaurant. The waiter, Sam, was inattentive and rude. Food order was not correct, waiter had to be flagged down because he hadn’t been by to check on us in quite some time. When the order accuracy was questioned by my date, he nonchalantly told her the kitchen must’ve ran out and substituted it, and he started to leave. She politely informed him she didn’t care for the replacement item and may have ordered differently if we had been notified. He seemed incensed by this and snidely remarked, “what do you want me to do about it?”. We were both taken aback by his question and the change in his demeanor. It was as though we were being unreasonable and inconveniencing him. Next, he asked in a condescending manner, “do you want more meat? Is that it?”, like we were just trying to get something free from him. A minute or so later he came by, slid a plate onto the table with the missing menu item on it and quickly walked off. He didn’t return until we were finished and ready for the check. But, wait, I thought the kitchen had run out of that food?! No apology nor explanation given. Regardless of the cause of the botched order, a simple notification or apology would’ve sufficed and is what I’d expect from any restaurant, especially one with supposedly top notch service. As the table next to us was being cleared, we asked to speak with the manager. After waiting and no manager showed, we left. I walked my date to her car then returned to find the manager. The manager was apologetic as I recounted the events to him. He assumed the kitchen had run out of the food item and substituted it, which I guess is their standard practice? Even though it turned out they weren’t actually out. Hmm. He did offer to try and make it right. Incredibly when he heard about how unpleasant the waiter was, he said, “yeah, Sam can be like that sometimes”. Really?! So, that’s acceptable for your staff?!!!
No, I will not be returning.
The wine selection was great. They have flights where you can get 3 smaller pours of several choices of whites or reds and a wide selection of wines by the glass. Prices seemed reasonable. We had a soup special whicheas very good. We were both dissppointedin the mains we ordered. Mine was a lamb t-bone and my wife got a chicken with seafood. Both were barely ok. I recommend staying with the small plates as they do them very well
My wife and I enjoyed an early evening outing at Robust after having not visited for a few months. We weren’t disappointed. Each of us enjoyed a wine flight and shared a few small plates and the chowder. Can’t wait to try the chowder again, especially on a cold winter night....exceptional!
Food was fresh, as advertised and delicious. Wine was outstanding. Kip is a superior waitperson and took care of special dietary needs. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy.
Great food great service parking is easy to find prices are reasonable amazing wine selectio
Great place for lunch - even w/o wine!
Food took forever to come
Great food, great wine and great service! We sampled many of the dishes. The chocolate mousse was a hit.
Our friends loved the food and were happy we brought them to Robust. I thought the food was very good but when I asked for a very oaky Chardonnay what the waiter brought was not oaky at all. So I was disappointed in the wine which I shouldn't be in a wine forward restaurant.
Amy is excellent. Made recommendations and was great with wine recommendations
It was a wonderful night overall. Our waiter, Joshua, was excellent. He listened to our wine preferences and provided a thoughtful suggestion, an amarone, that paired perfectly with our entrees.
We enjoyed the charcuterie and cheese board, which came with prosciutto and salami, a soft and a very soft cheese, mustard, cornichons, soft and hard bread, almonds, dates, and apricots. The meatballs made with charcuterie were outstanding. And the flat iron steak was cooked perfectly.
Stanley and Arlene Brown are the so warm, so kind as hosts. As the atmosphere was vibrant inside, the outside patio was filled with music from the two French guitarists. Yeah... it was a pretty perfect night.
One of my favorite restaurants. I have never had anything bad here. Never. Order anything. It will be fantastic!
We were seated promptly with our reservation, and our orders taken reasonably quickly. The food was good and I'd say a reasonable value. The wine selection is quite limited for a place that bills itself as a "wine bar", but we found some to enjoy.
The night ended on a sour note. We had to wait over 20 minutes for out bill, and our server was aware that we were waiting that entire time.
My consulting practice includes global hospitality groups. I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly.
We have been to Robust before and had really wonderful service, good food and some remarkable wine and cocktails.
We made Sunday evening reservation for a special gathering of friends for a combined anniversary and birthday celebration.
Everything was slow. 40 minutes after one friend's order she was told they had run out of the item show ordered. 20 minutes after that main courses arrived. One guest approached the cashier and was told "well, we won't charge for the item we ran out of."
We were not alone in being frustrated guests.
I finally approached the manager at the 2 hour mark. We were told the place was slammed by people who did not make reservations, it was a special anniversary night, it was a holiday weekend and few places were open. He finally offered to slightly discount our food, which he did and which was appreciated.
I wished that I had one of my client's pocket sized training cards, that associates carry, that reminds one to manage a guest concern using the H.E.A.T. approach; hear, empathize, apologize and take action.
I do hope they do a lessons learned meeting after last night. It seemed like they were all pretty stressed. And as mentioned, they were running out of things and taking an hour to bring dishes from the kitchen.
It is always a good thing when a local restaurant pulls together the essential elements and adds the touches that turn their guests into ambassadors.
There was that potential last evening. A better level of hospitality could have redeemed the evening.
Sadly, this was not what happened last night.
As already noted, the service, wine and food were all outstanding. We will definitely return.
