River House Seafood
We were just spending a day in Savannah, and stopped in for lunch. Food and service were excellent. Leslie was our waitress
Food well below average.
My Boyfriend has the fried Flounder and it was amazing, maybe the best he’s ever had. Protions were very big and service was great. I had the Savannah Paella, and while the flavor was very good, it was very sparse on the seafood. Very little fish and shrimp and clams were the size of a pea. Plenty of chicken. The peach cobbler was ok, but I would have expected much better. A little gummy and too much flour. I would go back again!
Had tried to visit restaurant night before but was told they were full and we could wait half hour...restaurant was half full! Booked table for following evening, again restaurant half full so the problem must be with lack of wait staff? We were party of 4, my husband’s appetizer (French onion soup) was cold, cheese not even melted. The oysters Savannah however was excellent. My main course (halibut) was not good. Overall for the price, it was not worth re-visiting.
I really feel the food was extremely overpriced. Quality was average but almost $30 for the entrees, i wont be coming back when in Savannah again. Also, didnt even give us rolls until after we ordered... and then acted like it was a big deal for more once the initial 4 were gone... bread is cheap. I guess price is dictated by location, seeing as the restaurant is directly next to the river.
Very average unfortunately. I had the Red Snapper special and the fish was luke warm and dry. Disappointing. And I live in Savannah. Too bad.
Our table warbled so bad that we had to hold on to our drink. Waitress said there’s a thing under the table just adjust it ??? 😤 we left.😔FYI, treat everyone like their your guest in your home! They didn’t.
Very nice location but ultimately it's about the food. Things did not seem fresh. Fish was served over rice that was clearly made hours before. Dry, oversauced food just screamed of a tourist trap. Disappointing and way too expensive for the quality.
Food was over priced for the quality we received.
The River House Seafood is always great. The service was excellent and the food is wonderful.
As a local you expect a tourist centered establishment to be a bit off par but this place was the worst I had ever tried using open table. No recognition of our special occasion. Should have read the detailed reviews. Their signature Paella was bland and meat in the dish was heavily over cooked. Didn’t thank us for our patronage- save yourself and go to the superb Boar’s Head Grill and Tavern.
We had a slightly later reservation, (about 1-1.5 hrs before they closed for the night. The location and ambience was great, however, there was hardly anyone there by the time we arrived, and our waiter was passively trying to rush us as soon as we got there. That being said, my meal was very good.
The seafood pallea was dry. Although it is not a traditional pallea the protein shouldn’t be dry. Our server also forgot to bring a cocktail that ended up on the bill. We did bring it to the server’s attention and it was removed.
I started with their signature old fashion cocktail which was quite tasty but very tiny maybe an ounce and quarter with a huge round ice cube. It was definitely not what I expected for the price. Not a place for cocktails stick to the wine. The clam appetizer was great the fried oysters was also a small portion. Maine corses oh grouper Oscar and stuffed flounder were good. Service was good but rushed although they weren’t busy and there were lots of open tables and I even ordered my main course after the appetizers were served we still felt rushed.
Grouper Oscar was excellent and I added a crab cake that was amazing. Server Laura was great and the host staff super friendly.
Traveling solo and have eaten at River House twice before. Each time is a great experience. Great relaxed ambiance, very friendly and knowledgeable staff and phenomenal food and drinks.
Our server walked up to our table with her pad and pen in hand and asked us if we had decided. We had only been seated for a few minutes and had not even been asked about something to drink. When she brought the drinks she asked again if we were ready to order our dinner. We immediately ordered appetizers and let her know we were still looking. They have a large menu and we needed time to decide. When the appetizers were delivered she told us we needed to hurry and order, even though the restaurant closes at 11:00 pm and it was 9:15. Two of our party ordered the New York strip and were told that they were out of them. Why not tell us immediately? My grouper florintine was terrible. No flavor all all. It was heavily coated with panko and had so many tomatoes versus spinach. One person ordered their steak medium well (which I think is not the way to eat a steak but it was her birthday). It was cooked medium rare. She ate about half of it and didn't want to complain. We felt so rushed and uncomfortable. There are many other restaurants to choose from in Savannah. River House will never be one visited again by our group of friends.
Ate there during our vacation, it was so good the first time that we went back a second time. Very friendly wait staff and excellent food.
Overall solid food and service.
Although there is a lot of premade food reheated, I TRULY enjoyed the crab cakes!
We loved our food at River House. We went there 2 nights in a row. I recommend the escargot and Crab Cake. Leslie is a great waitress.
There was live music but we were seated in a section to the side so it was not loud. We were in Savannah for our anniversary . I checked in online to be seated and our table was ready when we arrived. Food and service was awesome
Our dining experience was horrible. We wanted to have the $30 tasting menu, the Gazpacho took forever to come out. How hard is it to pour four bowls of cold soup? Two of us had the fish and two ordered the duck (rare). After almost 30 minutes we were informed the kitchen had not "prepped" enough duck for the evening. Why didn't the kitchen have enough, then when it finally came to the table it was too well done and it was rubbery. It felt like it was micro-waved and not grilled. When I told the waiter he had the manager come over. When I told her we wanted it rare she had the nerve to to tell us "it's against the law" to serve rare meat. So does that mean if we ordered rare steak it would have come out well done??
We are local and will make sure all our friends and neighbors stay away from this restaurant. I recommend Open Table drop them from the recommendation.
The food was great but the service could have been better
Staff and management lovely and accommodating.. food was thankfully unforgettable
Grouper and mahi was delicious. The paella was dry, over cooked. The service was wonderful (thank you Laura) and the d rinks delicious. I would go back.
The fish was overcooked. It is as hard as oak stick. The duck was well-done with vinegar only. Any kids can cook that kind meals.
Best crab cake I've ever had and I'm from Maryland!! Everything was served hot and delicious. Great location and atmosphere!
Service was excellent but the food was bland and not the quality we expected for the price.
Hostess literally handed me our menus to hold as we waited at the greeters desk for her to sit another table. Was bizarre. Then another server carried what appeared to be garbage through the dining room. Food was good though.
The food was not worth the price. Our waiters were also not very attentive.
The service is the deal breaker. Our waiter had to be reminded several times about requests. We were mid-way through our dinner when I had to ask again for tea. My daughter's food was cold when she finally received the hot sauce that she asked for.
Wonderful restaurant with terrific food and service.
Food was great! Drinks were great! Ordered the Savannah paella was a great dish and so much I couldn't eat it all
We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and they told us we couldn’t be seated until the exact time, even though many tables were open. That was a little odd. And then we didn’t actually get seated until 10 minutes after (and our reservation was at 9:30pm). Service could have been better but overall it was a positive experience.
I would recommend making a reservation for evening dining . The food was Better than expected. A good place to take you wife if looking for a nice quite place for dinner. Would totally go there again.
Wonderful experience. The food and atmosphere were excellent. Will definitely go back.
This was my first time visiting Savannah. Although some other aspects of our date night were not so great, dinner was by far the best part of the evening, even if everything else had worked out as well. We made reservations, were seated immediately. Our drinks were never dry. The food came out fairly quick and our waitress, Misty, was very attentive. The location was amazing, the ambiance was great, and we couldn't ask for more. It was perfect and everything my wife could have looked for in a date night. Thank you for making our evening special.
Only the wedge salad needed some work. Everything else was great.
The food and drinks were memorable for creatively incorporating fresh, local ingredients. Moderately priced and excellent service. A highlight of my trip to Savannah. Highly recommend.
