Rick's Cafe Boatyard
We had reservations and they text us when our table was ready. This was very convenient. The bar was busy but the bartender served us after we flagged her down. The music was a bit too loud in the bar area.
I love how the outdoor dining feels in the evening. Our waitress approached and told us what great service she was going to give and after she walked away we barely saw her. My husband had to go to the bar to get our drinks and he returned before she ever made it back to check on us. We had to ask another server for water. Our food was good! It always has been but service left a lot to be desired. This is frustrating because this restaurant has upscale pricing but not service. Maybe next time we will get a better server.
My family went to celebrate Father's Day. We had reservations, they had a table waiting for us on the patio which I highly recommend. Friendly staff that were a bit overwhelmed with the crowd. My husband loved his scallops. I had the steak salad that was very good, as was the pasta our kids enjoyed.
I hadn't been here in years. The first thing I noticed is how dirty it is. Walls, floors, everything just dirty and lacking in pride for how how it looks. Has really gone downhill. Our appetizer and plates were literally slammed down on our table with an aggressive "Enjoy" that prompted us to all look at each other like - wow that was uncalled for!
When the server brought out the plates, the bottom of the plates had junk all over the bottom. My husband told him it had food on it from another plate that wasn't ours (it was a huge slab of guacamole and we didn't order guac) and he shrugged and set it down. He just wanted the waiter to know so it didn't fall on him. Waiter could have cared less. And that's how I would sum up the attitude and ambience- could care less. Lack of quality and pride. All plates brought out from kitchen are stacked on others so clearly a systemic issue and lack of training.
Food - ricos dip was good. Pizza had been under the warmer and was gross. Rainbow trout good. We opted to do Father's Day dessert somewhere else as we were ready to leave. Just kind of gross there.
Overpriced. Dirty. Packed for Fathers Day and I won't be back. It's saying something when we opt for Dairy Queen for dessert!
Lovely View, Excellent service, Fantastic Food, Worth the drive
Love going to Rick's and eating dinner or having an appetizer and a beer on the deck
Our Server’s focus was customer statisfaction and his service was exceptional, that makes the environment relaxing.
Perfect lunchtime with my dad and family. The waitress was AMAZING!
Calimari was tasteless. Maryland Crab salad was ok. Too much iceberg lettuce. The mimosa was ok. The Reisling with lunch was the best part of my meal. The quality of the food did not match the price. Will not be going back.
I called on Saturday to ask if I could get a table outside on Sunday with my 11:15 reservation. I was told it wouldn’t be a problem. We were told “no way” when we arrived. My son has a walker (he has cerebral palsy). We were put in a corner at a tiny table for 6, even though our reservation was for 7. We waited 20 minutes to even order a drink, and then another 10 for the bar menu. There were 2 servers “sharing” our area...so we didn’t know who was doing what. They were kind, but obviously they needed help. We drove 40 minutes to enjoy Ricks for Fathers Day, but when we left I was embarrassed that I took my family here.
We had the best waitress ever. We were a party of 9 with 2 teenaged girls and she was on top of everything. I wish I could remember the waitresses name because she was the best. Thank you Rick's Cafe Boatyard it's always a pleasure dinning with you guys.
Pamela our server was awesome, friendly, and thoughtful. We ordered creole crab with chips for appetizers and pork chops for main dish. Appetizers were yummy. Pork chops were so juicy. Atmosphere was very inviting and upbeat. We loved the live band. We are definitely coming back.
Good food and drinks. We enjoyed it!
It was a cool rainy day when we went, so the air conditioning was a little over board. I suggest bringing a sweater. Service and food was fabulous as was the view!
I had catfish. It was piping hot. Very nice presentation.
I believe Ricks is under new management and there are some kinks to work out. The wait staff all in black is not a good look for a waterside eatery and there needs to be better coordination. Bread had to be requested and water came after our meal arrived. Food was excellent. They need a cappuccino machine and brunch on both Saturday and Sunday 11-3. This is not the backwoods Indy used to be.
I love coming to Rick's, I just wish they had more vegetarian options.
We had reservations for 12 of us to celebrate my 70th Birthday and Father’s Day. We were thrilled to get a great table outside on the balcony with a view of the reservoir. However, suddenly there was a big gust of wind blowing our drinks over, blowing away a menu and a Father’s Day card. The waiter quickly retrieved everything and cleaned up the table. Unfortunately another gust hit us and blew everything down again. Also our granddaughter was frightened by this event. We are happy that we were able to move inside. Not an easy feat for 12 people but our dinner ended up being pretty late for four young children. In conclusion, our waitress Pamela was great but we think you may want to have some pull down screens or some sort of see thru panels that would block the wind when the weather turns bad. Overall we had a great time but I’m not sure we would risk sitting outside with a large group again unless you make some changes.
Everything was really good about our experience. It was a perfect night we couldn’t hear anything. Food and service were both good, but we felt like we were yelling the entire time.
Always a good experience at Rick’s!
Took my wife for her birthday...she loved the trout. My salad was plentiful, but the salmon that came with it seemed small for the price relative to the amount of lettuce.
Server was friendly, though not as attentive as other servers we've had there.
The live music was terrific!
Rick’s was nice it wasn’t very dressy it was very casual. I had not been since 2000 or so and I was over dressed. The food and service were great! If you wear heels on the porch they can get stuck in the seams if you are wanting outside dining.
Very busy evening, but still had good service and good food.
The food was excellent as usual, but the server wasn't as good as previous servers
My meal was delivered poorly by the staff person. it seemed fast pace was more important than proper presentation. My trout entrée that should have been hot was cool as was the mashed potatoes. I complained and asked for catfish that never was served to despite being in the restaurant for another 45 minutes. Twice large amounts of cutlery were dropped interrupting my dining experience. I could go on.
2nd time visiting this establishment! Very impressed both times! Food was served very hot, drinks and appetizers served fast!
My wife loved the food! I wasn't too thrilled with it, but I am a very picky eater. Please don't take my feedback as being bad. I am certain that for those who enjoy good food, this place would be a great place to eat. I enjoyed sitting out on the patio. It was a really nice night and the water was quite calming. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Great meal!!! Definitely will go back
You cannot beat the view and the ambience on Eagle Creek. Shrimp and salmon were both outstanding. Super busy server who handled it beautifully. Outstanding service. Windy evening so they had the plastic liners down on the deck area which magnified the noise...very difficult to hear but we still would sit there for the view.
My friends and I are actually going back next month to celebrate our friendship of 40+ years. Hope to be able to sit outside and enjoy the view.
This was our second visit to Rick’s. We were celebrating our anniversary and it turned out great. We were able to sit outside comfortably. The service was top notch and food was great. It was a great way to spend a special evening.
As always, the menu is great, wait staff is great and food is wonderful. We always enjoy dining at Rick's Café Boatyard.
Our first visit. Everything was excellent: immediate seating; our seating location request was honored; quick and efficient service; creative food presentation; and a wonderful meal. A pricey place, but the experience made it a non-issue.
Only issue that was a "downer" was a poorly maintained and overcrowded washroom. Unpleasant and totally inconsistent with the otherwise excellent "Boatyard experience."
Excellent service; excellent atmosphere
My wife and I were visiting our son in Indy and found this restaurant. I felt like we were on vacation somewhere. It's right on the water and has a great vibe with great views! Food was great too! We're definitely coming back when we visit again!
The food was excellent. Our waiter was very good. My only disappointment is I stated in the notes section of the open table reservation to please not seat us in the back corner and that is exactly where we were seated. We drove out to enjoy seating outside with a great view and instead had a crummy seat.
Highly recommend. Best seafood in the area. Oysters are on par or better than the coast. Food and service was great. Outside was pretty noisy. I think the roof reflects the noise but was a great experience anyhow.
The view on the deck can't be beat on a nice evening. Gorgeous and the only place on the west side to eat on the water. This is a humongous, lively place. Loud. Food is ok and pricey and service is efficient if not super hospitable. Still, the view.
Kudos to the service we received on this visit. My wife, son and I went for dinner on a night that was vey nice so they were packed. We had reserved an outside table but after getting seated my wife decided it was too hot so we asked to be seated inside. They graciously reseated us and our new server was to our table very quickly. The next thing that happened was my son knocked a glass of water over and immediately 2-3 people came over to help clean up. I was really impressed by the overall service we received and left a large tip as thank you but also wanted to recognize it here. Really pleased with the overall evening. The food was good as usual but the service really made the evening. Thank you very much.
Although we requested patio seating at the time we made our reservations, when we arrived we were told nothing was available (there appeared to be tables available). Our reservations were at 5 pm. Inside the temperature was cool enough to be uncomfortable. Also every time we book our reservations for Rick's Boathouse, I am told it does not count toward rewards. What gives??
It is a beautiful setting...especially outside on a nice evening. It was extremely difficult to hear and carry on a conversation. Our food was good....the service was a bit slow and left something to be desired.
