   The chef was fun and very attentive. The waiter listened and served my sister in law very considerate alternatives to her lemon aversion. We we very appreciative.

   Dinner was great but we weren’t seated until almost an hour after our reservation.

   Our waitress was amazing considering how slammed all workers were on a holiday. But our chef Fernando needs to be retrained or taken off cooking duties. I have a shellfish allergy that is always accommodated we are regulars at this location. This chef was supposed to cook all shellfish last instead he placed the shellfish at the top of the griddle! I quickly restated I have a severe anaphylactic allergy to shellfish. His reply was he was still keeping everything separate if they don’t touch then there is nothing to worry about! I requested separate cooking utensils be used for food to prevent shellfish cross contamination! Chef Fernando stated he would sanitize the same utensils before touching my food! As it was Mother’s Day I did not want to ruin the other parties day I clenched my teeth and stayed quiet. This chef not only disregarded my allergy he also over salted everything and mixed in mushrooms with the whole meal even though the other parties at the table requested no mushrooms. I attempted to take a couple of bites of my meal but quickly felt anxious about my allergies. I instead took my meal home for my husband to eat later as he has no allergies. My husband was unable to eat it because of how salty it was. So disappointed that a human can disregard a person’s health. I am not blaming the restaurant as they were unaware of the situation but that chef Fernando should be ashamed of himself for his actions. Hopefully nobody else will ever have to deal with his actions.

   The parking was terrible. It seems no one rides together, anymore as a family but rather as indivisuals.

   Mediocre service. Was expecting more of a ‘show’ and engagement from our teppanyaki cook. Hardly any interaction at all. Several of us ordered the Rocky’s Choice with hibachi steak - it was super chewy and lacking flavor. Iced green tea was watered down and had no flavor. Price was not worth the service or quality of food. Been coming to this location for years, may have to rethink revisiting.

   I had the Hibachi steak which was delicious. It’s pricey but worth it. The Teppan style entrees include a soup, a small salad with ginger dressing, rice, grilled shrimp and I think ice cream but we were too full for dessert. The waitress was attentive and courteous and the cook was nice even though our table didn’t pay much attention to the poor guy! Great experience!

    I have been a longtime customer of Benihana and this was my first time to the Newport Beach location. It was a very nice restaurant with a nice staff but the food was not cooked well unfortunately. The shrimp was not properly deveined and the quality of the cooking was just not there and consistent with all my previous experiences. The chef was a very nice guy but not a good cook.
