Went there to celebrate a birthday and be with friends. We had a great time. The chef and server were amazing. It was incredibly warm in the room we sat in and very noisy. But otherwise the food was delicious and the time we had was great.

We had a great time with friends for a dual both party. Unfortunately, we were not well attended by our waitress, Valerie. Plates were taken late, drinks late, and the birthday celebration was very delayed. It felt very disconnected.

Overall an excellent last minute decision to go to Benihana in Costa Mesa. We got seated right away since we had a reservation and were lucky to only have 6 at iour table. The chef was excellent and was a good time We will be back with friends

Enjoyed a birthday dinner at Benihana -- in fact, every couple at our communal table had a birthday. Chef was great, made the meal fun. One of us had steak, the other chicken, both good. Noise level was pretty intense, but if you go knowing that it's fine. Pricier than I recall it being during our last visit some years ago, but OK for special occasions.

I went on 6/26 for lunch in Newport Beach location with my family. Service so slow! Did t even come once ask if we needed anything, no refills, appetizer came literally before we had to leave and my son didn’t even had proper lunch! The only plus is Benihana show for my 2 yo niece and my 8 yo son. Not sure if I want to return anytime soon! Oh, free birthday desserts didn’t even get that at our exit! All in all no good service.

My son and I are regulars at Benihana in Newport Beach because my office is 5 minutes walking distance. Because my son went off to college last Fall, we haven't been around. He just came back for Summer, so we resumed our favorite hangout. Dinner on this particular visit was extremely disappointing, and I don't think we will be back for a while. The food was lousy, namely the chicken; we both noticed the color when it was thrown onto the grill. Onto the Chef, not sure if he's new, but we never saw him before, the food was mostly salty. As for the service, it fits well with the theme of the evening. My son's hors d’oeuvres (a simple Rainbow roll) came after the chef had already served a round of shrimps and did his usual "Choo-Choo train" comedy bit. My simple bowl of white rice never came, my hot tea never got refilled because the server never came around until it was time for the check. By the way, everyone's salads got served long after the chef's arrival and started cooking. Tips are based on the level of service, but yet, all guests were confronted with a choice of 18%, 20% and 25%. Against my will, I went along only because all the employees shared the pool of tips so fine. But no, my son and I will stay away from this particular establishment for awhile.
