Yopparai opened 10 years ago as an intimate Japanese sake bar and restaurant known for its wide variety of sake paired with traditional Japanese cuisine. After a long pandemic induced break, we are excited to reopen at a new location on the Lower East Side! We continue to serve menu favorites like homemade tofu, grilled meat/fish, and oden, while also adding new offerings like sushi and Japanese hot pot. We offer socially distanced indoor dining, as well as heated outdoor dining, both with a unique Japanese ambiance. We also offer counter seating where we serve a limited-availability sushi omakase course in addition to our full menu.

For special occasions, we recommend our sister restaurant, Yopparai Ronin, an omakase-only date night spot offering a multi-course menu in a beautiful Japanese setting. Please visit Yopparai Ronin's listing to book your date night.

    Previously offered only at our sister restaurant, Yopparai Ronin, we are now offering a limited availability seasonal omakase menu of Chef Miura's selected dishes! Enjoy 6 courses of traditional Japanese cuisine including appetizers, sashimi and sushi, grilled and steamed dishes, ending with a traditional Japanese dessert. Some dietary restrictions can be accommodated; please note restrictions in your reservation or call the restaurant for details. Pricing ranges from $110-130 per guest (excluding tax and gratuity); reservations require a non-refundable deposit of $25 per guest. Omakase reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. For same day reservations, please call the restaurant to check availability.

    First time at Yopparai and wow, the sashimi are so unique. Hubby really love the New York Trout and their other fish as well. And can we talk about the exceptional service here? We were greeted by a nice man named Mr. Yuki. Very kind and friendly. And our server, Mr. Pat, was amazing!!! Very attentive, kind, informative and very professional. We also want to thank Mr. Kevin as well. Came over to our table to greet us and ask us how we are doing. Amazing staff!!! Thank you for making our dining experience so memorable. We will definitely be back. Mr. Pat did say come on Thursdsys because Kopparai get fresh fish on Wednesdays. We are looking forward to it! Thank you for the hospitality. Xoxo

    I had the omakase. It was excellent. I went alone and sat at the counter, Junya was my chef and he was very nice. I was also well taken care of by Yuki, my server. Many of the dishes were spectacular, only 2 things I didnt care much for. The most special were three things in the first course: The ikura covered chawanmushi, just the right temp for the custard to stay warm and the ikura not to cook. The cod roe and daikon aland the uni in dashi gel were also amazing. The shrimp dumpling in dashi I did not care for. Neither the texture nor the one note of the flavor profile. The black cod was delicious though it had many bones; loved the crispy skin. The chirashi course was beautiful. The uni in this was especially fine.I thought the sprinkling of gold leaf on the chawanmushi and the chirashi were elegant and need. I also loved the dessert : a sweet cracker with green tea ice cream and bean paste - a delicious combination of flavors and textures. One thing that was strange is that because I was alone where there was a choice of options in a course Yuki chose for me. He chose well except for the shrimp dumpling though I might have chose it myself though I might also have chosen the smoked duck option. Nevertheless, I very highly recommend this experience. A memorable meal. Also thanks to Patrick for helping me make a reservation that didnt fit the open table constraints.

    The food is as good as it was at the old Yopparai at 155 Rivington. The service is outstanding but the space lacks the intimacy of the old one and feels less like being in Japan and more like an Izakaya in New York, which is of course what it is ! Oh well, so much for escapism.

    Had no problem making a reservation for a Saturday night. Everything was delicious. We especially liked the simmered eel and grilled cod. The sashimi was fresh. Would go back if we are in the area again.

    This new location of Yopparai is just as fun and delicious as the old one but in a much roomier space! Everything we ordered was just absolutely delicious; we pretty much ordered everything from each section of the menu and every plate was just so good and very authentic to an izakaya. Our staff was so friendly, knowledgeable, and amazing, providing great recommendations for both food and sake. We had such a wonderful time and they were so kind and accommodating (we didn't know we were stayed past closing time until we left!) and never once did we feel rushed. An amazing place with delicious food and sake with a warm and wonderful staff. We can't wait to come back!

    I came to Yopparai for the omakase experience selection for my boyfriend’s birthday, since he likes to try new foods and has never had omakase before; I was treated to one of the best culinary experiences of my life. We were taken to a private enclave to sit in a more traditional Japanese environment and had a great Yuzu cocktail & a glass of plum wine. Each course was carefully presented, explained thoroughly & respectfully, and was delicious. Each was well balanced so that our palette experienced various flavors while we still left full. Although we stayed for a long period of time, we never felt rushed and felt well attended. As mentioned, all dishes were well explained by a kind older man who took the time to ask if we had any questions each time, and answered any we had completely. At the very end of our time here, he also asked about what brought us to New York, as well as giving a few short stories about New York in the 70s/80s and growing up in Tokyo, before offering us a Japanese cloth as a momento. All in all, the food was immaculately selected & prepared, the experience was fantastic, and the staff was kind & welcoming. I couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience or for a greater birthday dinner for my boyfriend. Thank you Yopparai for making his special day unforgettable!

    The sushi and sashimi at Yopporai were outstanding. So fresh and exquisite. Yes, it's expensive but what quality sushi restaurant in NYC isn't. Sushi Chef Koichi was incredibly efficient and hospitable at the bar. My wife, who doesn't each much sushi, really loved the vegetarian options of vegetable tempura and tofu hot pot with vegetables. Excellent food and service. Will recommend to friends.

    太难吃了，除了刺身没有菜没味道的，味增银鳕鱼既不咸也不香也没鱼味，你咋不上天呢？服务很一般。隔壁兄弟店Yopparai Ronin很好吃服务也好，没想到这家alacarte这么雷。 Food was awful. The food tastes nothing like that from Yopparai Ronin, which was wonderful. Nothing aside from the botan ebi was tasty at all. The miso black cod tastes neither like miso nor like black cod. The rest of the dishes were borderline edible but were not tasty at all. Service was average.
