Overlooking the San Antonio River Walk since 2000, Bruce Auden’s Biga on the Banks continues to charm San Antonio foodies and Alamo City visitors with its constantly-changing new American menu featuring the best ingredients South Texas has to offer.

It has been said that Bruce Auden has “put San Antonio on the culinary map” but this Chef is just getting started. The Biga menu features fresh caught fish like Mahi Mahi, True American Red Snapper and Ahi Tuna. Main stays on the menu usually include Hill Country Venison and Bandera Quail, Grilled Australian Rack of Lamb and Roasted Bell & Evans Chicken.

The dining room is modern with a casual-well informed style of service.

Dagli editor di OpenTable: When he opened Biga in 1991, London-born chef Bruce Auden kicked off a new era of fine dining in San Antonio, amassing a huge celebrity following (Julia Child, Emeril Lagasse) and racking up several James Beard nominations. In 2000, the restaurant moved to a bigger space with sweeping Riverwalk views, the perfect setting for Auden’s ever-changing global menu with Texas accents—think spiced antelope and quail, habañero jerk scallops, and za’atar roasted cauliflower.

Excellent service and everyone loved their food! Our server Robin was very fun and attentive. Great place to celebrate a special occasion or just a night out with friends!!

Biga has a beautiful, welcoming ambiance. From our first interaction with the hostess to our final departure the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Our meals were outstanding. The Mahi Mahi for my wife and the Denver steak for me were both excellent. The wine list is varied enough for most any palate. The fact that you can order full or half portions is a real plus. We will definitely be back on our next trip to San Antonio.

First time to Biga. Drove down from Austin to meet a family member who was in for a conference. We both got the 3-course prix fixe menu and shared the scallop appetizer. Everything was cooked and seasoned precisely and was delicious. I got the wine pairing; he ordered a cocktail. We both left very satisfied. And with what restaurant prices have been lately, we thought Biga represented exceptionally good value for money.

Will definitely be back! Food was so good and timing of being served was perfect. Only downside was as it filled up, it got loud and the acoustics were rough for me.

It was excellent from start to finish. Cocktails were delicious and everyone loved their food. The dessert sampler was the way to go! It’s refreshing to get delicious food and have great service.

Very attentive and flexible waiter. Our party arrived in stages due to minimal parking. They were so wonderful and accomadating! The cocktails were fabulous and bread basket is not to be missed. I had Mahi Mahi entree and it was very good. The portion is flexible so got the half. It was perfect.Burger was enjoyed by several and the veal good as well. The pre fix was also recommended by friends at table. Hospitality was top notch here.

I learned about them from San Antonio magazines best river walk restaurants list from a few years ago (2022?). Went with their recommended antelope and quail entree and then relied on my excellent server’s advice for the scallops appetizer , cocktail, and wine for my main course. My server was patient and put up with all of my questions and indecision.
