Nice room, amiable wait staff, good food. I found it not exceptionally good, mostly because the chef was overly liberal with the oil and salt.

We had a nice Easter brunch here. We had a reservation but due to the holiday they were running a little behind. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails which were very good. Loved the Bloody Mary’s. After being seated we ordered some appetizers. The salmon lox was delicious. The four of us ordered different items on the menu. The breakfast potatoes and sriracha mayo was excellent. The pancakes were tasty too. We would all go back for another brunch or happy hour. I really like the decor and feel of the space. It’s also very clean and I always appreciate that.

I've been wanting to go here for years and the place delivered on everything I'd heard. GREAT food. Service was good. The atmosphere was warmly lit and felt like a lodge. The only down side was it was a bit noisy so it was kind of hard to hear my wife thanking me for the Birthday Gift even though she was right across the small table from me. Other than that a good evening.

Went there for Portland Dining month and the 3 course dinner was excellent. Wasn't as great a value as a few other restaurants went to in March for dining month, portions were a bit on the smaller side, but still worth the $33 because of the quality of the food. Husband had fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and was wonderful, we shared the two meals and good way to taste various menu items. Craft cocktails are always wonderful tasting even though a bit spendy. Wait staff is very nice especially the hostess. Love the ambiance of the restaurant, very dark and cozy.

It lived up to the billing. The food is truly exceptional. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Portland. The collards and mash potatoes and gravy remind me of classic southern cooking. My wife had the trout and is still raving about it three days afterwards. I had the fried chicken which was superb especially the presentation and seasoning. Great drinks also.

Got there a little late for our reservation, about 10 min and they were super happy and warm to see us. Our server Sarah was amazing and was super helpful on guiding us through the menu and making us feel welcome, made us laugh and guided us to our awesome menu choices. The bologna sandwich, chicken liver mousse and the lobster rolls were all great. And would come back for the Bologna any day but that it the southerner in me! See y’all soon’

We enjoyed our dinner. The food was good. Nice wait staff. Very busy and loud for a Sunday night. Not sure we will come back as it was a little overwhelming for a date or conversation. So you basically sit there and eat, and look at each other.

Delicious brunch options, great for savory dishes but not many sweet choices. Our server was a fun time. Our table's only gripe was the Michelada was severely over-priced at $9 for a basic red beer.

I love the Woodsman, but this last meal, the Sunday after st Patrick’s Day, the Woodsman was off it’s mark. Too busy, slow service and the noise level was overwhelming. That said, I’ll return to the Woodsman because I feel this was an off day.

We enjoyed the braised pork with creamy polenta and the blackened catfish. The pork was tender and flavorful; my husband didn't want it to end! The catfish was tender and moist, not overly blackened, and served with a very bright tasting sauce that paired perfectly with the fish. The collard greens were indeed some of the best I've tasted; tender, silky, and flavorful with just the right amount of bacon and seasoning. The buttermilk panna cotta was a perfect way to cap off the meal. The only downside was very slow service. It took nearly one hour from the time were seated until we received our main course. The place was also very noisy. They were going to seat us in the middle of the room next to the wait station and bar but we asked for a seat next to the window that was away from the fray. It was very pleasant and I would recommend asking for this location if you want to have a conversation without shouting at each other.

Amazing food. The best biscuit we have had. We came to try their dining month menu but their everyday menu looks even better. Noise level is high (in the sports bar area) and seating just a bit cozy but the food and friendly staff are more than worth it.

Technically, the food was very well cooked. However, there was a notable lack of seasoning (salt and/or black pepper) on the fried chicken. That was the only true disappointment of the meal, but it was a big one. Collard greens might be the best I've had in PDX (which is saying something). Desserts were excellent, as well.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the Tavern and felt that the service was both friendly and attentive. The mini crab roll was tasty but a tad small for $8.00. I thought the fried chicken was outstanding -- very close to the best in Portland, if not the best. The biscuits were very good. The mashed potatoes with gravy were good. My dinner partner did not enjoy the Portland Dining Month selection as much as I enjoyed the fried chicken, but we will return to try the double cheeseburger and other items on the menu!
