   We were celebrating the birthday of a friend from South Carolina who had never been to Portland. She and her husband were family members of a dear friend of our who passed away on April 25th at 40 years of age. After the memorial service we had yesterday we wanted to treat them to a wonderful Portland restaurant and chose Jake's. While there were 18 on the initial reservation we ended up with 13 and we were treated like royalty. Our birthday person was completely enthralled with Portland and though they were to depart at midnight--she wanted to stay for a couple more days; due in part to the Jake's experience. Our food was great and the two people who served our table were par excellent. Wow, what a great experience!!!

   The food was sub par. Potatoes were reheated and dry, halibut was over cooked and dry. Waiter seemed frazzled and had too many tables. Haven’t been to Jake’s in awhile. Won’t be going back

   It was wonderful and we will definitely go back. *I would ask for a table, rather than a booth, if I were a person with limited mobility or if I was a larger person. The booths are difficult to get into and are unpadded.

   A terrific place to visit in Portland for a wide variety of seafood dishes traditionally prepared. Get a seat outside or at a table (the wood booths are uncomfortable).

   Amazing experience every time. We’ve been coming here for years, a true Portland gem and must eat restaurant. Service is always excellent, never rush and let us enjoy our time. They also have a really great happy hour too.

    My husband and I made reservations before going. We were seated immediately when we arrived. Our waiter immediately attended to us took our cocktail orders and brought us fresh bread. Our dinner orders were taken shortly after and arrived quickly. My husband had fish and chips and I had Cajun chicken and shrimp fettuccine. Both of our meals were very tasty and ingredients were fresh. Would return here if we ever came back to Portland.

    We were early for our reservation so we started at the bar for happy hour. Crab and artichoke dip was very good, wine was fair, bar could not make a French 77 for my wife. Our table was ready on time, nice booth. Brandon our server was outstanding, very knowledgeable on the menu. We ordered a bottle of blanc de blanc off the wine list, but unfortunately none were chilled properly and Brandon was very upfront about that, which we appreciated. Most restaurants would have just served it as is. We switched to wine by the glass, the selection was ok. The escargot was very good, large snails prepared properly. I had the sturgeon, which was outstanding especially with the sauce on the side. My wife had the Dungeness crab sauté which Brandon recommended and it was spectacular (which was incredible coming from my wife as she is a very picky eater). We finished sharing cheesecake with a generous pour of 30 year Port. Wonderful evening for our first night in Portland. Will definitely be going back.

    We dined here Mother's Day my crab artichoke dip and then the perfectly cooked and wonderfully served halibut stuffed with crab and shrimp topped an over the top dinner! My husband went for appetizers for his meal. He thoroughly enjoyed a crab cocktail and delicately fried oysters. We always expect the best from Jake's and we always receive the best in food, service and ambience!

    The service was terrible. Came with a group of friends, between us we’ve been coming here for over 13 years and this was the worst service we had. We had to wait 15 minutes just to get waters for the table. Our server seemed aloof the entire meal. She forgot to put in half of our appetizer order. We came in a group of 7 ready to have a fun dinner and spend a decent amount of money and we did not feel like the service was representative of the money we spent. It was extremely disappointing and not the level of service we expected from Jake’s.

    Jakes Crawfish has been one of my favorites go to restaurants in Portland... disappointed they no longer have two of my favorites, Ahi Tuna and Banana cream pie ( made in house) ...Heard Jake's was purchased by the Landry group, don't think they have the same passion for tradition as the former owners!!

    Very enjoyable. Requested and received our favorite table. Excellent food, and service. Very consistent. We celebrated a birthday, and the menus had Happy Birthday printed at the tops. The honoree got a sliver of truffle cake with a lit candle. Lovely dinner.

    Obviously a historical establishment, the ambience and architecture was fantastic, as was the service. Most of the food was good, but nothing special beyond any other good Portland seafood restaurant (the plank salmon was cooked perfectly), but unfortunately, a main "special" w-a-y overcooked blackened swordfish with salsa and crab topping was not a hit with anyone at our table. Yes, really crab and salsa... Still worth a visit if you are visiting in the area.

    We arrived to the restaurant 15 minutes before our reservation time and we were brought to our table quickly. The waitress was great, answered all our questions and offered suggestions. The oysters were really good and fresh and the dungeness crab and artichoke dip was very flavorful. The clam chowder was nothing special, I would not order it again. If I had to say what was it I didn’t like, it would be I could barely notice the clams flavor. When it comes to the main course we were a bit disappointed. We wanted to try several things so we ordered the crab and shrimp stuffed halibut and the Pacific Cod, pan seared with Dungeness crab and bay shrimp. We split both dishes half and half. We could not tell the difference between the two, the exact same flavor from both except for maybe a hint of the Brie on the halibut. I was expecting the combination of flavors in the halibut as we ordered it stuffed after all, but the cod was supposed to be pan seared so we expected a light presentation. Instead it was covered with the same creamy shrimp and crab sauce put on the halibut. There was not just shrimp and crab on it, it was a creamy concoction, maybe some bechamel on it. Maybe it was our mistake misreading the “pan seared” description, but we expected the shrimp and crab to be maybe grilled or sautéed, not as part of a dense sauce. In any case, for a seafood restaurant we were expecting a different approach to fish, there weren’t any options for simple, pan seared or grilled fish dishes. It is a missed opportunity not to highlight the simple flavors of a good fish, and instead hide them behind a combination of multiple ingredients or by smothering it in sauce. Our sides were green beans and mashed potatoes. The beans were on the crunchy side, the mashed potatoes had an excessive amount of garlic powder to the point we could not eat it (this said by a garlic lover)
