L O C A L was conceptualized by chef owner Tracy Miller in 1998 with the inspired vision of becoming a local establishment in Dallas serving a seasonally inspired modern american menu.

Located in the spirited, soulful + historical Boyd Hotel, circa 1908, in Deep Ellum, TX. Our culinary approach consistently embraces a menu that welcomes the simplest, most honest ingredients available. We are seasonally driven and are continuously strengthening our bonds with surrounding purveyors, cheesemakers, breweries, ranchers, wineries and farmers. We are always eager to share our fondness of quality driven products and we stay true to who we are while preparing food that makes us happy.

    I didn’t love the experience. I’ve been to Local many times. This time, several courses were way too salty, to the point I couldn’t eat them. The wine parings didn’t come with the courses and we often had to ask for the wine pairing while our glasses were empty. At one point I had to say, “We need a lot more attention on the wine.” For $400+ I was very disappointed. There are amazing restaurants in Dallas that we could have gone to for half as much.

    This continues to be on of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. The sea bass was wonderful as was the peach salad. It's so nice to be able to talk, and hear, while dining.

    Wait staff needed training but were very friendly. Food was over the top. Warm peach salad was top 3 the best salads I’ve ever had worldwide… EVER. I’d go back for that alone. Steak was cooked to perfection. Short rib was excellent. Understated, elegant spot. Ambience is on the quiet side so it’s an awesome place if you actually want to talk to your table mates and hear what they say.

    I'm very sorry our dinning experience was disappointing. The main problem was the entrees were so over salted it ruined what would likely have been excellent. I did not complain-perhaps I should have. I usually do not add salt to most foods and I thought maybe it was me and most of the world likes this much salt but my wife loves salt and she thought her food was excessively salted as well. We had the short ribs and sea bass. Including the main items the radicchio and mash potato and risotto and haricot vert were simply all over salted. In addition our host/server, although very pleasant, rushed us and our orders -even though there were not many diners (which would not have been an excuse ) when we were there. The cheese platter was very good with plenty of bread.

    Our entire meal from drinks, amuse bouche, apps and entree were amazing. So, so, good. Like really good. Such a hidden gem. Eat here! You will not regret it. We happened to be in Deep Ellum, but live in FRisco. Will travel to come eat here again.

    We did the tasting menu. All of the dishes were fantastic and each special in their own way. We now know which full dishes to order next time (but would do tasting again for sure.) Service team were great.

    The meal was very tasty, even though it was pricey. We hope to go back with friends to do the tasting menu/wine pairings when we have more time. Wait staff were warm and attentive without being imposing. Great place to celebrate a special occasion.

    Been here many times and this was my wife's favorite place. We were seated at 7:20 and given water by the host. We waited there for 25 minutes while other tables had food and drinks delivered. No server stopped by to greet us or take a drink/food order. We got up at 7:45 and walked out passing three employees without anyone saying a word. We won't be back.

    Diesel - To say the least, I'm beyond mortified with your experience. There is NO excuse. These are the types of experiences that are impossible to apologize for and try to explain domino effects that can happen in a restaurant. Regardless - restaurant owners should be prepared and ready at all times to create an experience that exceeds your expectations. I've worked tirelessly, for 20 years, for this to never happen and am so sorry it did. I would welcome a call - if willing. Owner_Chef

    This has become our celebratory restaurant of Dallas. The food is amazing and the service is very professional. The food has always been delicious and the chef, Tracy Miller, has done a great job with the menu. We have met her on each visit and she is very humble and gracious for our attendance.

    The quietness and ability to chat at the table is a real plus. Our waiter was cooperative and helpful, although when one of the cocktails was deemed "not good" it seemed overlooked and a different one wasn't offered. Cocktails are only made with sparkling wine or saki as the alcohol element. The tuna tartar and the sea bass were very good as were the risotto and the broccolini. The slaw was terribly over-dressed with aioli and just too heavy to eat. The amuse-bouche was lovely as was the mignonette at the end. The parking is a mixed bag, although it is very convenient right next door (which is rare). You have to download an app, and pay with a credit card, then the restaurant will reimburse your parking fee. All and all I would recommend Local as a high-quality venue that is hip, but quiet enough to have a conversation.

    Local never disappoints. A true Dallas gem. The atmosphere and music set the mood. The service is spot on. The fried green beans are a must! The filet and home made tater tots are delicious. I’d highly recommend the mint chocolate chip ice cream and donuts!!!

    Unfortunately, the food was poorly seasoned and not prepared with much thought. The steaks seemed to be prepared sous vide with excessive salt. When I cut into it, the meat was still steaming and started to shred even though I ordered it medium rare. This suggested that the steak was not allowed to rest. The sea bass was bland. Overall, the flavor profiles were not layered. As for the service, it was mediocre. The server kept reaching over glassware from awkward positions to remove our plates, and when we ordered dessert, he simultaneously asked how we wanted to split the check. He did not offer coffee or an after-dinner cocktail. Once dessert was on the table, our server sat in the corner and began to go through his sales receipts. Granted, we were one of three tables that were in the restaurant from 7-9 PM. Therefore, business was not the issue. Based on previous reviews, the menu, and price-point, we expected so much more. We will not be back.

    The waitstaff was friendly, attentive and helpful. We did the tasting menu and 4 of the 9 courses were incredibly salty. One course was inedible for me because of how salty it was. If the food had been less salty I would have given it 5 stars.

    Not quite worth the price for a tasting menu when compared to the quality of service. I do not recommend the wine pairing, it is 1.5 sips of wine per glass. Unfortunately they didn’t have a full bar available. The food was delicious and the portions are far larger than other tasting menus I’ve experienced. I would recommend coming for the food a la carte.

    In the past, I always gave Local 5 stars. Last night might have just been an off night. The waiter seemed a bit under-trained and overwhelmed. My previously loved lobster cakes were undercooked. By the time we got the waiter over it was just too late to remedy since everyone else had finished their dinners. That said, these are tough times, especially for staffing restaurants. I have loved Local for years and years and will definitely give them another chance.

    It was my Valentine’s gift to my boyfriend. The place was quiet, romantic and very beautiful. Our waiter was splendid and very knowledgeable. We had a wonderful evening. We had the tasting menu, we found the food a little pricey but it was worth it.

    A group of us wanted a nice dinner before we went to a concert at The Factory, a nearby live music spot. Local had a cool vibe, great food, and was walking distance from the venue. We gave ourselves about 2 hours and this was pretty sufficient for a casual dinner and a few bottles of wine.
