I recently had the pleasure of dining at Greystone, and I must say, it was an experience to remember. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality from Sara the manager that set the tone for the evening. We had the privilege of dining in the private room, which added an extra touch of elegance to the evening. The ambiance was intimate and sophisticated, perfect for a special occasion or a memorable evening with loved ones. Now, let's talk about the food. The Wagyu steak was an absolute standout. Cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor, it was a true indulgence for the senses. Each bite was tender and juicy, leaving us craving for more. But it wasn't just the Wagyu that impressed us. Every dish we tried was expertly crafted and beautifully presented. From the appetizers to the desserts, each bite was a delight. In addition to the outstanding food and ambiance, the service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu and ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Overall, Greystone is truly the best restaurant I've had the pleasure of dining at. Whether you're looking for a romantic evening out or a celebratory meal with friends and family, I highly recommend making a reservation and experiencing the magic of Greystone for yourself.

Worst dining experience ever. Food was cold and their solution was to flash it so it came back hot, dry and flavorless.

Had a wonderful Happy Hour here followed by a fantastic Wagyu experience! Enjoyed the Basil Hayden Old Fashion and Wagyu Washed Manhattan, Wagyu Tartare, Oysters, Greystone Salad, Lobster Mac & Cheese, and both Japanese A5 and Australian A8 Wagyu. Chris the bartender and Jeff our server both provided impeccable service. Can't wait to come back!

Five stars all around for Greystone. Our server, Michael, was a top notch professional server who deserves high remarks. Michael helped make our anniversary dinner awesome. This was our first but definitely not our last time to Greystone. Great place for special occasions or just fun night out downtown for some quality food and service. Highly recommend this gem! We'll be back soon. The food was excellent!

My wife and I had a casual date night on Friday at Greystone, a jewel in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter on the corner of 5th and G. We sat upstairs on the 2nd floor. The hostess, Adriana, seated us promptly and was enthusiastic about our visit. She asked us where we parked. When we told her we parked at Horton Plaza (in avocado) she gave me a validation ticket which brought our parking fee from $48 to $12. Nice! Michael was our server and he was attentive throughout the evening. My wife and I watched him personalize his service with all of his tables, walking up and down a flight of stairs dozens of times. “How many times a night do you walk up and down those stairs,” I asked. “I cancelled my gym membership,” he said. Our favorite part of his service had nothing to do with us. There was a table of five (4 adults and a young girl of about 7-years-old). He approached her at the end of their meal and said “I heard you were celebrating a birthday this year! When is your birthday?” “December 2nd,” she said. “I knew it!” he said before lighting a huge sparkler in a birthday cake. “Happy Birthday!” he said. She lit up (center of attention) and the adults pulled out their phones and took photos (or videos). Anyway, we really thought that was special. Michael knows what he is doing. He is creating WOW moments on the front end. We will be back.

My wife and I dined together last night, Thursday evening. We sat upstairs in the corner against a rail overlooking the restaurant. What we loved about this table was the privacy, the lack of foot traffic. The only person who walked by our table was our seasoned server Michael. He was courteous, cheerful, and quite frankly, funny. My name is Michael as well and so is my oldest son. Immediately we connected. My wife wasn’t sure what type of wine she would enjoy so Michael brought over four small samples: a Cabernet, a Pinot, a Merlot, and an Italian blend. She choose the Daou Cabernet. We both had the Daou. We shared a delicious simple yet classic Caesar salad before enjoying 2 perfectly cooked 8 oz filets. She added sautéed shrimp to hers and I had the truffle butter. We also enjoyed the lobster Mac n cheese and the truffle Mac n cheese. In all honesty, we should have had one and not both because the portions were so large. Everything was perfect and we will be back. The music choice could have been more conducive to dinning. Maybe some Frank Sinatra or Miles Davis, something classic. Ask for Michael. He will make it feel like a special occasion even when it’s not. 🥑

My first time here from Texas. My wife and I had a great time. The staff were nice and attentive. We enjoyed the Tomahawk stake, cooked a right Pittsburgh style and it very good! Our server, Eric, suggested we give the Japanese Wagyu a try, so we shared a 6 ounce cut. It was also very good! Rich and buttery just as described! Next time were in town, we will be back! And thank you for the hospitality, as it was my wife's birthday and she got a nice treat :)

Greystone exceeded all expectations! From the impeccable service to the exquisite cuisine, every aspect of our dining experience was flawless. This place is excellent for private dinners. We had private corporate dinner in their private wine cellar. The ambiance was inviting, and the attention to detail was evident in every dish. We particularly enjoyed the creative flavor combinations and the freshness of the ingredients. Each course was a culinary delight, and the presentation was impeccable. Sara, the manager, and The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly, enhancing our overall enjoyment of the evening. We highly recommend Greystone to anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience. We cannot wait to return!

I came in for a nice meal with my partners and it was a hit. We started off with an off-menu tapas our server, Eric, calls "Taste of Greystone". It's hot! A taste of A5, a crab cake, and a juicy prawn. A bone-in filet mignon (also not on the menu) and the "66" for my wife - it's the A5 with Lobster Tail! Great picks for wine and the night was a hit. Eric even brought us some Champaign to celebrate my promotion. Classy!

My son and daughter and I are from Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico. We come to San Diego often enough. We have been to many restaurants in the Gaslamp District, but for one reason or another Greystone never landed on our radar - until last night. It was late, after 10, and the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on 5th Avenue were still strong but most dining spots were closed. We wandered in and a gentleman greeted us and asked us if we were interested in dining. He (Michael) escorted us upstairs and sat us near the fireplace. Although the evening was winding down, he never rushed us. We each had 1/2 of a Caesar salad topped with white Spanish anchovies. Then we shared a Tomahawk steak (we each had a lobster tail as well), and Brussels Sprouts. Michael gave us a sample of Daou Cabernet Sauvignon. We shared a bottle. Later Sara, the general manager stopped by, and we spoke at length about tequila. Sara is heading down to Mexico for a tequila tasting soon. Then, much to our surprise, she came back with 3 reposado tequilas. Michael brought over a chocolate cake. The quality of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant and the friendliness of Sara and Michael has now made Greystone our go to restaurant when we are in town. Even the background music was pleasant: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, and Django Reinhardt dusted the air. We will be back again and again.

The menu promised far more--both in quality and presentation--than the plates did. Mediocre food presented without much art or elegance. And, during one meal, our lead waiter changed three times (maybe four; we lost count) ... on a night that wasn't very busy.

The food was good but not great. We've been to many steakhouses and the expectation was the steaks would be better than what was served to us. Our steaks had more fat on them than meat. We ordered the Japanese wagyu & ribeye. Our appetizer, salad, & sides tasted good but not amazing. We enjoyed the dessert. The ambience was nice but the music was a bit noisy at our table and our server even mentioned he was going to see about turning it down when he was at our table without even asking if it was too loud which makes it obvious even he noticed. The service was outstanding and it saved the experience.

Set reservation 3-4 weeks in advance and when we arrived we were seated outside on a cold night…and the smell outside was very “barnyard”. Asked about options for inside and were told that a company had reserved the entire upstairs… we were not given an option even with a delay to sit indoors where it was not so cold… very disappointed in the service from the Hostess stand workers…didn’t seem to care. We left and had to find another restaurant that could take us as a walk in… so disappointed in Greystone!!!

I made a reservation and was told I wouldn't be allowed to sit inside because of a party renting the facility. After being moved to the patio and sitting there for about 10 minutes looking over the menu, we were told by a waiter that we had to move to sit in the street because the patio was now to be occupied by the party. After asking several waiters, it took about 10 minutes for any heat to be moved over. We ordered our food and part of our order was forgotten and wasn't cooked as we requested. As we were served dessert, there were food bits left on the utensils that we were served that made them unusable to eat with. All but 2 of the waiters had very poor attitudes and seemed bothered by us asking for what we ordered or by the fact that we asked for them to honor our reservations. Eventually, the manager was understanding enough to remove some items from our bill to accommodate the treatment that we received. I can understand the stress of a large party and that there might have been a mix-up, but the lack of attention to detail for the price of the meal was simply disappointing and I wouldn't recommend eating here.

To be fair, we were a party of 12 and the restaurant was full. We were seated at a table way too small for 12 people. When asked if something could be done, they did. They split us up into two tables of 6. Not great but doable. Two people who ordered wine had to wait until wine glasses became available. What?? The staff seemed untrained and over burdened. Next to this place was another steakhouse. Our restaurant was using their kitchen, as observed by staff running from building to building. What?? When the bill arrived, there was an additional unrecognizable charge. When asked about this, the waiter gave a very vague answer saying it was a booking fee. What the hell is that? I started with the wedge. It was lack luster, missing dressing, quality lettuce, and crispy bacon. The crab cake was tasty. The venison chop was pretty good. Their seafood selection was poor. The food itself seems palatable, it’s everything else that was chaos! To call this restaurant a steakhouse is a stretch. It’s a bar that serves steak. I would not go back.

I have eaten at Greystone a few times, this opportunity to have 2 star Michelin star five course meal. The restaurant made me reserve with a credit card only to show and there was no five course meal or Michelin star chef. The restaurant was packed and completely killed the vibe. Food, drinks, service is usually a five out of five star experience, but this night it was a 2 star overall. I did not give a 2 because the server saved the night and made my date special.

Service began great, but diminished as the night went on. Salads were forgotten and one dinner guest got his entree about 5 minutes after everyone else, so the rest of us waited and our entrees got cold. Only one person drank wine and they had two glasses, but we were charged for 3. My water glass was dirty and one of my guest’s knife was dirty. Based on this experience I would not come back.

The restaurant had a kitchen fire a week ago and the lower level was closed. They used the kitchen next door and the quality of food was not up to par. Lobster tail was over cooked, dry mashed potatoes and steak was a 2. Service was very slow (we were the first table sat). We asked for bread and it came after our main course got to the table. Very unsatisfying

This was a total disaster. They should have closed it due to a fire and didn’t.

Great place right on the gaslamp quarter! We went there for my brothers birthday dinner, they seated us in a private back room which was unexpected and amazing! The service was friendly and attentive. They let us play our own music which made it a cool experience. Delicious food and good portions to share! Would go back

Great steakhouse in the heart of the Gaslamp. Love the dry aged beef and extensive wine list. Will definitely be back.

We were not very impressed with the food quality. Service was nice and ambiance was nice other than a large group that was very noisy But the dishes were not great. Calamari was bland and tough. Drinks were watered down. Salmon was dry and probably frozen not fresh. Salads were good but pecans were stale and they did not have a nice presentation. Ribeye was good. But If you are paying $250.00 for a meal, presentation matters and should be great flavor. The management was considerate to move us away from the large noisy crowd but I have to say the food was sadly just mediocre. Sorry Greystone. Was hopeful but disappointed.

Greystone made my visit to the Gaslamp. We loved the Tomahawk Ribeye and Hot Chocolate Lava Cake. I can’t wait to return to this wonderful restaurant. Thank you so much for recognizing my wife’s birthday.
