We experienced Aviary for the first time and enjoyed their Portland Dining Month menu. Everything was delicious and beautifully plated. You’ll find a lot of variety on the menu and an excellent cocktail, wine and beer to choose from. We’ll definitely be back!

The only complaint I have about this experience is that it took a full two hours to receive our courses. We waited a little more than 45 minutes for the first course. At the end of our meal the waiter apologized that the service was exceptionally slow but didn’t alter our check in any way. Don’t expect to come here and get a quick dinner. Also where we were seated had very low lighting. The food was delicious but not worth the long wait.

We sat at the counter, which we generally enjoy, because I was not able to get reservations for a table. There were 6 empty tables behind us for the first hour and a half we were there. Hmmmm

I feel like Aviary has slipped. Two of the dishes we had for Portland Dining Month were amazing, but the other four were mediocre at best, especially the desserts. We waited a long time between ordering and getting the first course, but the restaurant didn’t seem that busy. We enjoyed ourselves but were not thrilled.

I had high expectations based on recommendations; while Aviary was overall Good, it was not the amazing experience I was hoping for. The food was plated well, tasty with interesting accents (although I did not love anything), portions were very small. We tried all of the dishes on the Dining Month menu. For some reason, the last course/dessert was significantly delayed, I believe we waited for at least 30 minutes, if not more. The server was polite and knowledgeable, and updated us frequently enough. Overall, just an average experience and I would not necessarily return.

We had a reservation but it felt like there had been no thought or care to reservations on the books. They seemed a bit surprised and panicked that they needed to find us a table. We ended up waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time before being seated.

Restaurant month menu was outstanding! Everything was delicious, the service was wonderful, and the staff was friendly. The wine list was surprisingly reasonable for the quality of wines and the after-dinner drink list was impressive. It was a lovely evening out!

Way too noisy. Two tables were particularly bad. But the setup does not do anything to reduce noise. We love the food but may not come back until we can seat outside.

We loved it. It was a belated Valentine’s Day date after being out of town. Every dish was curated with care and very unique. We did the green beans, duck dumplings, hen of the woods and pig ears (we were feeling brave) and honestly loved all of it! Larger portions than I anticipated. Would have felt comfortable for a casual week night or a special occasion. The bar in the back looked like a great place for a weekend cocktail as well. We’ll be back fo sho!

I can’t believe we’ve not been to this fabulous place before now. Every dish was delicious; such great flavors! Our host and waiter,Dave, was terrific. Thorough descriptions and recommendations on food and cocktail options. He even wrote a drink recipe for me and gave us a tasting of a liquor I was unfamiliar with. Those personal touches help places stand out in Portland competitive food scene. We will certainly be back.

I’ve now had Aviary’s Vegetarian Tasting Menu 3 times, and it far surpasses every coursed meal I’ve ever had - and it’s reasonably priced! Perfectly filling, mind-blowing flavors (the mushrooms pictured are the best you’ll ever eat), and the vibe invites you to visit for both casual and special occasions. Hands down my favorite meal (non-vegetarian included) in Portland. Bonus: the cocktails are bomb and strong.

We went to Aviary with another couple, and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The waiter was great, very pleasant as well as efficient. He explained a few dishes after questions from our table, helping with our decisions. Highlights include the Silken Tofu salad, which had some interesting and delicious ingredients, and was presented beautifully. Our waiter recommended it highly, and I'm so glad he did. Also beautifully plated and tasty was the Black Cod entree, served with Manilla clams and a coconut broth. Delicious! The space was comfortable and enjoyable, although on the noisier side. It wasn't a problem for us, but notable. All in all, a very nice evening. We have been before, and will return.

This is a wonderful restaurant to meet with friends and share the various delicious dishes offered. The chicken skin salad, hen of the woods mushrooms preparation and braised short ribs were the big hits. However, the Japanese eggplant and octopus are also not to be missed. One of the great aspects about the Aviary is that you can actually have a lively discussion and everyone at your table can hear you. Great drinks menu also.

A gift from our kids, this was our first Aviary experience and we loved it! Excellent, personalized service. Portion sizes just right with a clear focus on subtle blends of tastes. We will definitely return!
