Translated from the Japanese word “home,” the original Uchi is located in a refurbished South Austin bungalow. Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole’s signature non-traditional take on Japanese food has delighted Austin’s diverse dining crowd as well as visitors from across the country and around the world since 2003. Reservations are encouraged and can be made up to 1 month in advance. Walk-in seating is limited to the Sushi Bar and is subject to wait times. Patio seating is weather permitting and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. We look forward to serving you, Kanpai!

    Our only complaint was the noise level for our 7pm reservation. Otherwise our server Hannah helped us choose items we loved including the Kinoko Nabe which we can’t wait to order again on our next visit.

    Uchi is always an outstanding experience. I’ve ordered the Omakase three times because I simply cannot make a decision and prefer the chef to tell me what to eat. The entire staff is professional and works as one team. 12/10

The moment I knew I was returning to Austin, the first thing I did was book a table—and it was absolutely worth it. The sushi is the freshest, most creative, and most delicious I’ve had anywhere in the U.S. Every dish is a work of art, both visually and in flavor. The chef’s creativity is truly unmatched—each bite is a surprise, a perfect balance of texture, temperature, and taste. The ambiance is elegant yet relaxed, making it ideal for both special occasions and intimate dinners.     Love the food- service was joy as good as usual but hopefully it was just an off night. I would recommend one of the other restaurants like Uchiba where the servers do a much better job and the food is just as good.
