Heralded as an escapist's paradise, Le Colonial is a celebration of the seductive spirit and vivid flavors of Vietnam. The restaurant opened on iconic Oak Street in March 2019, after moving from its location of over 20 years on Rush Street. The food was fair. Appetizers sugar cane shrimp and dumplings were tasty. The Spicy shrimp entree was just ok. The Japanese eggplant side dish was good. The signature fried rice very very bland and disappointing. With a lot of soy sauce added it was much more palatable.

Food at Le Colonial is outstanding. Unfortunately, the service did not match par with the quality of the food. The service assistants were outstanding clearing, bussing and marking the table in a very timely manner and were extremely friendly. However, the server we had was basically non-existent throughout our entire dining experience. The greet was short with "can I get you started on something." No "welcome" or introduction to the menu or restaurant and there were no recommendations made. The check back on the appetizers happened as soon as we received the plates to the table so there was little opportunity to provide any real feedback. Once entrees were delivered, there was not a single check in until the entree dishes had already been cleared and to add, the check back was 4-5 minutes after the plates were already cleared from the table. Throughout the majority of the dining experience the server was conversating with another server in the side station by the service bar. At one point we witnessed the service assistant ask a server if they could bring us a dessert menu, and we could see he said something along the lines of "that is not my table, its her table." While I would rate the experience average at best, if the server had been slightly more attentive even with a few simple mid dining check ins, our dinner would have been a rememberable experience. Luckly the food and the Service Assistant saved the experience to prevent it from being a horrible dinner.

The foods always taste fresh at Le Colonial, which is a reflection of its produce sourcing and good suppliers relationships . The food is prepared nicely and not overly complicated. It’s easy to eat and an easy environment to sit and relax in. The view is lovely and wonderful to observe seasonal changes. And the staff seems fully knowledgeable of the restaurant offerings without hesitation.

Fabulous food and excellent service. The restaurant is somewhat loud. I asked for a sommelier to help pick out a wine and was disappointed when I believe a manager came by and provided no extra value. however, that was a very minor point in an outstanding experience

Food was great, service was not. Lots of big tables taking up all the server’s time. Appetizers came out fairly quickly, then instead of soup coming next, it came at the same time as main courses, 45 minutes later. Waiter was nowhere you’ve found. For the prices, it should have been a much better dining experience.

Love this place - every time! The vegetarian and the shrimp/pork crispy spring rolls are terrific, as is the seafood dumpling soup. We tried the Chanh Day cocktail - passion fruit, lime, and citrus vodka ip in a martini glass - for the first time and it was sooo delicious.

I took my husband and son to celebrate a couple of family milestones, which I mentioned when I booked the reservation. The restaurant is beautiful and we had a very nice table. Food was excellent. For an appetizer, we had the crispy shrimp and pork rolls and the pan seared chicken dumplings. Both were yummy. The dumplings had a nice hit of fresh ginger, but the star for us was the shrimp and pork rolls. Rolling them in the lettuce with the other elements, especially the mint, and the sauce was delish. Our teenaged son snapped up the last one. For dinner we had the shaking beef and chicken curry with rice and green beans. The food is great quality and I thought the portions were generous. We were perfectly sated and ended up taking leftovers of everything home. Is it a “great value”? No, but it’s certainly not a rip off, which I think other reviews have implied. I felt like the price is on point. As we were winding down they brought us a complimentary mango sorbet (very good — not too sweet) to acknowledge the celebration I mentioned when making the reservation. A very gracious touch. We had a lovely evening!

My wife and I split a few small plates - Pho, ceviche, sesame beef rolls, ribs, and 2 scoops of ice cream for desert (one mango and one pistachio. Everything was excellent. Service, as a;ways, was attentive and non-intrusive.

The food was very good. We had to ask for the prix Fixe menu. Only knew about it by seeing it on Open Table. And they’ve raised the price. Had a sparkling rose. Would not recommend. At $20/glass least expensive sparkling on the menu. Restaurant is lovely.
